A Word from Our Administrator Dear Richmond Families, Important Notice This week, administration was informed about a Waukesha County community issue regarding sexting. After collaborating with Officer Dan Baumann from the Waukesha Sheriff’s Department, we would like to extend our learning to parents and ask that you speak with your children. On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, Waukesha Police became aware that minor students were using personal cell phones and computing devices to share nude photographs and explicit videos of themselves. These images were shared using the following apps: Keepsafe Photo vault Ky-calc Secret calculator Photo locker iMessage Facebook messenger Kik Snapchat Secret Vault Many of these apps appear as a calculator that when the proper code is entered, the photos are able to be accessed. Again, these images have been shared using personal devices such as smartphones and personal computers. These images have been captured during non-school time and not on school property. As a result of this information and in cooperation with the Waukesha Police Department, the district is asking families to keep an eye on the personal devices of their children. In addition, Richmond School counselors are also addressing this issue with students during 5th-8th grade guidance classes. We hope that with the proper education and discussion of this serious offense, our students will make safe choices with their technology devices. Celebration Congratulations! We are pleased to announce that two of our Richmond students, Chance Harrison and CJ Zehner, have been selected as finalists in the 2015-2016 Creativity Connects the World Art Exhibition! Their artwork showed a true connection to the theme, had stunning visual appeal, presented age- appropriate critical thinking, and responded to the theme with originality. Our students will have their artwork professionally framed and on display at the U.S. State Department this April. Thereafter, the artwork will be donated to the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, both students will receive a customized plaque with a replica of their inspiring artwork, commemorating this achievement. Thank you to Mrs. Karin Pacetti for submitting the students’ artwork into the competition. Reminder Parents of children in grades 3 through 8: Please remember to send a pair of headphones to school with your child by March 24. The state assessment, the Forward exam, requires use of headphones for designated Language Arts testing sessions. Have a safe and wonderful weekend, Gena Santharam

MATH

ACCELERATION

At Richmond, students considered for math

acceleration are in the top 2% of the population in

advanced thinking and mathematics abilities.

Students considered for acceleration must have

participated in differentiation math activities in

the regular classroom and worked on extension

work with Mrs. Held. This does not mean that if a

child worked with Mrs. Held on some math

extensions, he/she is a candidate for acceleration.

Most of our students will have their needs met

with differentiation and small group extending

but NOT acceleration. Mrs. Held and the

classroom teachers have been communicating

regarding possible candidates. Parents will be

contacted by March 8th, if their child is being

considered. At that time, parents will be asked to

complete an inventory and must give permission

for testing. If your child was part of the process

previously and was declined, and you feel that

he/she should be considered again, please

communicate with Mrs. Held. Parents have the

option to submit a referral form for their child.

Please read carefully all the guidelines and

requirements BEFORE you submit a referral form.

The referral form (on the GT ED webpage link

above) must be submitted to Mrs. Held, by

March, 15th. Please contact Mrs. Held, GT

Coordinator, if you have any questions at

[email protected].

Student Council members

will be managing the Box

Tops for Education project.

They would like to conduct a

positive competition among

all classes at Richmond. All

box tops that are donated will be credited to each

student’s homeroom. At the end of the year, the

two homerooms with the highest number of box

tops donated, will receive a pizza party. Parents

please check expiration dates. Expired box tops

have to be thrown away. For details on sending in

Box Tops, click EDUCATION!
