A virus can be difficult to overcome.

• A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat.

• Some noted viruses:• A cold.• Influenza (ex = H1N1).• Chicken Pox.• HIV/AIDS.• Small pox.

Page 2: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

A virus can even attack a computer.

• While different from a biological virus, a computer virus can still create havoc.

• If you have ever had a computer virus, you know full well the damage it can cause.

• Some examples:

• Setup Utility for Long File Name Backup (SULFNBK.EXE)

Email Received May 31st, 2001.

• Please follow the procedure below and save yourself some major problems later. Be sure to do it BEFORE June 1st. Anti-virus software will NOT protect from this one.

• It will not become active until June 1, 2001, at that point it will become active and will be too late. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus travels thru E-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command' folder. To find it and get rid of it off of your computer, do the following.

Page 4: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Email Instructions.Go to the "START" button.Go to "FIND" or "SEARCH“Go to "FILES & FOLDERS“Make sure the find box is searching

the "C:" drive.Type in; SULFNBK.EXEBegin search. If it finds it, highlight it.Go to 'File' and delete it.Close the find Dialog box

Email Instructions.Open the Recycle Bin

Find the file and delete it from the Recycle bin

You should be safe.

The bad part is: You need to contact everyone you have sent ANY E-mail to in the past few months.

DO NOT RELY ON YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE. IT CANNOT DETECT IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT BECOME A VIRUS UNTIL JUNE 1ST. IT WILL BE TO LATE THEN. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT OPEN THE FILE!!!

This was a Hoax.

Similar to the “blonde” virus I received via email.

The key was to read the entire email which many do not do!

Go to C:Remove all software programs.Reformat your hard drive. Are you Sure!!!! Select “yes.”

WARNING: Not all viruses are hoaxes!

Page 7: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

A virus is DANGEROUS:

• Invades an entity and uses the host to maintain itself.

• A virus can grow or even mutate.• A virus is difficult to treat. Once

active, very few antidotes work on a virus.

• The effects of a virus may be long lasting and may even result in total destruction.

Page 8: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Sin is Similar to a Virus:• Sin invades humanity & uses

human weaknesses to keep itself alive and to replicate itself.

• Sin can grow and even mutate into other areas of one’s life.

• Sin is difficult to treat. Christ provides the only known antidote to this serious condition.

• The effect of sin is long lasting and may result in total destruction.

Page 9: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

The Curse of Sin is that it is a Curse on All:

•Sin, like a virus, has invaded and infected all of creation. (Romans 8:20-22)

- The animals.- The woman.- The man.- The earth.

Page 10: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Genesis 3:14-15(Page 3)

• 14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Page 11: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Genesis 3:16-17a• 16 To the woman he said, • “I will greatly increase your pains

in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

• 17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’

Page 12: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Genesis 3:17b-19• “Cursed is the ground because of

you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 18

It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

– The New International Version, (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing House) 1984.

All is Cursed:• Serpent (vv. 14-15)• Eve (vs. 16)• Adam (vv. 17-19)• The Order Compares to: Man’s Fall

- Serpent spoke first.- Eve spoke second.- Adam spoke last.

• Contrasts to: God’s Call- Adam Eve Serpent

Page 14: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Curse it All:• I. Serpent (vv. 14-15)

- Crawling (personal)- Conflict (supernatural)

• II. Eve (vs. 16)- Childbearing (personal)- Competition (relational)

• III. Adam (vv. 17-19)- Challenge (personal)- Casualty (global)

Page 15: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

The Serpent (vv. 14-15)

• 14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.

• NOTICE: The serpent is now silent! He neither accepts NOR denies blame.

• Because of the height of his sin, he is abased ---- to crawl on the ground.

Page 16: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Curse on the Serpent• He will crawl on his belly.• He will eat dust all of his life. • Man was fashioned from the “dust”

of the earth (Gen 2:7) . It was also to this “dust” that man would return.

• The serpent sought to devour man and would spend his life chocking on the dust from which man was created and to which man returns.

• The penalty fit the crime.

Page 17: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Curse on the Serpent• The Conflict (supernatural)• 15 And I will put enmity between

you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

• Called the protoevangelium (the first Gospel).

• Enmity = hatred & hostility that exists between enemies.

Page 18: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Curse on the Serpent• A Conflict (enmity and hostility)

between Offspring• Corner #1 = Satan & his Offspring

(his followers & ultimately the Antichrist)

• Corner #2 = Woman & her Offspring (followers of God and especially Christ)

• Satan would bruise mankind.• Christ would deliver the fatal blow!• Pictured in the movie, “The Passion

of Christ.”

Page 19: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Eve: (vs. 16a)16 To the woman he said,

“I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children.

• “Greatly increase” could have various understandings:

• 1. It may mean that there was some pain in childbirth prior to the fall. If so then this pain was not due to sin, but was present to protect.

• Not all pain is bad (ex: eye).

Page 20: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

The Curse on Eve• 2. It may be understood to mean

that the length of her burden in carrying children would increase (i.e. the length of pregnancy increased).

• 3. It may mean that there would not only be physical pain in bearing and birthing a child but also in raising a child; thus frustrating a mother’s natural instincts and desires to have children.

• The curse effected childbearing.

Page 21: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

The Curse on Eve• The curse created competition.16 To the woman (Ishah) he said,

Your desire will be for your husband (Ish), and he will rule over you.”

• Desire = in the original sense of stretching out after Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon, (Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.) 1995.

• Since Eve had “manipulated her husband; she would be mastered by her husband.” Walvoord, John F., and Zuck, Roy B., The Bible Knowledge Commentary, (Wheaton, Illinois: Scripture Press Publications, Inc.) 1983, 1985.

• The penalty fit the crime.

Page 22: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

The Curse on Eve• Competition rather than

cooperation became the hallmark of the marital relationship.

• As a result of sin, two primary relationships were frustrated:

• Motherhood has a mix of sorrow & joy:

• Marriage has a mix of struggle & mutual support.

• The curse of sin has left its mark.

Page 23: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Adam (vv. 17-19)

• 17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.

Page 24: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

The Curse on Adam• Adam listened to the wrong “voice”

(Eve’s and not God’s) and then Adam ate.

• Adam sinned by eating. Now he would have to suffer in order to eat.

• Adam ate of the tree and he is now told to eat of the plants of the field.

• A primary area of man’s life is frustrated! Work becomes WORK!

• Man’s identity is often in his work.• A woman’s identity is often in her

relationships.• The penalty fit the crime.

Page 25: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Adam (vv. 17-19)

• The painful toil that Adam would experience would be the same as the painful toil Eve would experience in giving birth to children.

• The Hebrew word is the same.• Adam (adam) would suffer because

God had cursed the ground (adamah).

• Thorns & thistles would spring up, but Adam’s challenge was to eat herbs from the wild earth.

Page 26: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Adam (vv. 17-19)

• 19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

• Brow can also mean “anger.” 1) nostril, nose, face OR 2) anger

– Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon, (Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.) 1995.

• You must toil “until” you die! • The global casualty of sin = all die.

Page 27: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.

Presence of Hope:• Serpent (vv. 14-15)

- Christ will crush his head!• Eve (vs. 16)

- She becomes the mother of all the living. (Gen. 3:20)- While there is suffering, there is hope. Mankind will continue.

• Adam (vv. 17-19)- Man does not have to live forever in this state of chaos.

Page 28: A virus can be difficult to overcome. A virus has the ability to mutate or change slightly in each infected person, making it hard to treat. Some noted.
