Background of the study

• Music is vital to the development of a human being. It is important to the development of the individual because music involvement is considered a fundamental expression of human behaviour. The need for education in music is indeed important. Music education is the dissemination of music knowledge, skills and appreciation. (Del Valle, 2011)

Page 3: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Page 4: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Background of the study

• With all the requirements needed to be fulfilled by the students taking up the BSE Music Education curriculum and with the demands of music education in the Philippines, the quality education received by the graduates are a major thought.

Page 5: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Background of the study

• According to the Task Force on Higher Education (1995) the indicators of quality graduates are performance of graduates in board examinations, accredited status of courses and employability of graduates.

Page 6: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Background of the study

• According to Task Force on Higher Education under the Commission on Higher Education (1995) in its recommendation on its Comparability and Equivalency study, a study should be conducted that will identify the factors affecting quality of education and that schools must be encouraged to track their graduates after graduation in order to get accurate information on their employability and acceptability which is one of the three indicators of Quality of Higher education.

Page 7: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Background of the study

• A tracer study is an effective feed-back and follow-up tool to obtain continuous quality of the programs and curricular offerings of the university to align with the needs of the field and international standards of producing world-class music teachers.

Page 8: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Background of the study

• The need of a tracer study in the Music unit is necessary as four studies have only been found by the researchers. Thus this study is deemed necessary by the researchers.

Page 9: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• The tracer study’s objective is to assess academic studies and their present profession in which tracer studies could be used to provide valuable evaluating results of education and may be used in the development of the institution in the context of quality assurance. (Schomburg, 2003)

Page 10: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• In order to do this we must be able to assess what is the quality of the graduates which in this case is the Batch 2000-2005. Since quality assurance is the goal of tracer study we must define what quality is. According to the Task Force in Higher Education (1995)

Page 11: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• In order to do this we must be able to assess what is the quality of the graduates which in this case is the Batch 2000-2005.

Page 12: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• According to the Task Force in Higher Education (1995), an organization supported by the Commission on Higher Education, there are three main indicators in of quality graduates are–performance of graduates in board

examination–accredited status of courses –employability of graduates.

Page 13: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• Out of these three indicators of quality, we could assess through tracer study is employability and LET Results.

Page 14: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• Employability is the ability to be able to obtain employment. The ability of the graduates to obtain employment after graduation indicates fast transition from the school to work.

Page 15: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• Employability is the ability to be able to obtain employment. According to the Graduate Tracer Study by (Arcelo, 2001) employability can be measured through – personal factors including age, sex, civil status and

parental education, – academic factors which in this case is Philippine

Normal University and BSE Music Education. – Employment factors which include the quality of work,

unemployment factors and school related factors.

Page 16: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• The researchers would like to focus on personal factors, the given academic factors and employment factors. Through this a baseline data would be made in order to obtain factors which could affect employability and on employment factors waiting period, starting pay, nature of job taken and relevance to the BSE Music education curriculum.

Page 17: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• The Licensure Examination for Teachers is created in the establishment of the act “Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1995”. In the previous years the graduates of BSE Music Education have successfully passed the examinations.

Page 18: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Conceptual Framework

• In order to assess if graduates have received quality education, we must know if they have – passed the let examination – examination rating and – what date they have took the examination.

Page 28: A Tracer Study on the Bse Music Education

Methodology

4. Procedure1. List of the graduates is then furnished from the

Methodology

4. Procedure3. The questionnaire is forwarded to

them in which the graduate would desire the questionnaire to be accomplished.

4. The gathered questionnaires then are subject to data analysis.
