Fourth Sunday of Easter
In today’s Gospel reading we hear Jesus referring to himself as “the good shepherd.” His sheep know him, trust him, listen to him and follow him; having faith that no harm will come to them as long as they stay close to him. We reaffirmed our faith in Christ when we renewed our baptismal promises at Easter. As stewards of our relationship with Jesus Christ, are we, like the sheep, willing to listen to Jesus, follow him, trust him?

We’ve been migh ly blessed at our parish over our 155-year history, and now we want to share that bless-ing with the world around us.
On Saturday, May 23, we will go out into the community to perform acts of service for various agencies and residents in need, sharing God’s love through our gi s of me and talent. Can you spare a few hours on one day this year to give to others? Some projects might require more
me, some less. We know the people we serve will be grateful for your gi s of me and energy, regardless of how long you can stay. Can you rake? Pull weeds? Pick up
s cks? Pray for others? Strip wallpaper? Sort dona ons? Wash tables? Paint a wall? Eat an ice cream sundae? These are all examples of service opportuni es available on May 23! We hope families and individuals of all ages and abili es will sign up to work together to make a difference for someone in need. Imagine the happiness that you share as you teach your children and neighbors about the joy that comes from serving others. Next weekend, a er the Masses on May 2 and 3, we will have our first oppor-tunity to sign up for these service oppor-tuni es. We’re calling this “Sign Up Sun-day”! Computers will be set up in the church basement to commit to the ser-vice opportunity of your choosing. Our day school fi h-graders are working on posters that will contain more infor-ma on about each agency we are helping
and the work to be done. Invite your friends, neighbors and rela ves to join us as we make a differ-ence and “share our gi s.” All par cipants will receive a Parish Day of Service T-shirt, made possible in part by our generous sponsors, including: Sweet Lawns; State Farm agent Keith Wright; Edward F. Bugner, CPA; the Knights of Columbus Medina Council #4168; and SportsWorld Custom Printed Apparel. Par cipants also will gather for 5 p.m. Mass that day – yes, possibly s ll paint-spla ered from the day – followed by a pizza dinner in the church basement to swap stories and inspira on. We look forward to seeing you at next weekend’s Sign Up Sunday and on our Parish Day of Service, Saturday, May 23! Ques ons? Contact Jennifer Webb at 330-764-8946 or jwebb@s rancisxavier.info.
