Utumiaji wa dawa za kulevya miongoni mwa vijana katika eneo la kati umeongezeka katika siku za hivi punde.Urahisi wa kuipata mihadarati, kama vile bangi, umesababisha ongezeko la matumizi ya dawa za kulevya hata miongoni mwa wanafunzi, ambao pia wameingilia unywaji wa pombe haramu.Utumiaji wa mihadarati na vileo ni tisho kubwa kwa kizazi kijacho kwani huwafanya watumiaji kutowajibika na kuwa watu wasioweza kuchangia katika kukuza uchumi wa nchi.Kulingana na shirika linalokabiliana na matumizi ya dawa za kulevya nchini (NACADA) asilimia 20.2 ya wanafunzi katika shule za msingi wamewahi kutumia angalau aina moja ya mihadarati au ulevi.NACADA ilindokeza haya katika ripoti yake iliyoitoa Januari 2019 kuhusu hali ya matumizi ya mihadarati na aina nyingine ya bidhaa za kulewesha miongoni mwa wanafunzi wa shule za msingi nchini.Ripoti hiyo inaashiria kuwa wanafunzi hao huipata mihadarati hiyo kwa urahisi karibu na shule zao kupitia kwa wasambazaji. Matumizi ya mihadarati yamechangia ongezeko la vijana wasio na nidhamu, jambo ambalo linazua swali: “Je, jamii ina wajibu gani katika kulikomesha tishio hili?”Athari za janga la mihandarati na ulevi zinahatarisha maisha ya kesho kwa vijana. Baadhi ya familia nazo zinaendelea kutumia mamilioni ya pesa katika jitihada za kuwanasua watoto wao kutoka kwa mtego wa mihadarati.Matumizi ya dawa za kulevya yamehusishwa na matokeo mabaya katika mitihani ya kitaifa na ongezeko la visa vya watu kujitoa uhai katika eneo la kati .

Kwa muda mrefu jamii imekosa kutambua uzito wa tatizo hili. Ni sharti pia tukomeshe unyanyapaa unaohusishwa na ulevi wa mihadarati ili tuanze kutumia nguvu na rasilimali kukabiliana na tauni hii.Hakika, matumizi ya mihadarati na aina nyingine za ulevi ni adui mkubwa ambaye inatupasa kukabiliana naye iwapo tuna nia ya kukuza kizazi bora cha siku zijazo. James Mutugi.“Kila chuo kina uwezo wa kuwasajili kwa wastani wanafunzi 300 lakini ni chuo kimoja tu ambacho kina wanafun-zi 280 huku vingine vikiwasajili wana-funzi wachache sana,” alisema.Alisema Serikali ya Kitaifa humlipia kila mwanafunzi wa chuo cha ufundi anuwai shilingi 15,000 kila mwaka, na hivyo vyuo hivyo huukosa mgao wake wa takriban shilingi 47,143,000 ambazo zingetolewa kuwalipia wanafunzi 3,143 ambao hawako katika vyuo hivyo.Aidha, Mutugi anasema kuwa mafunzo yanayotolewa katika vyuo hivyo yanahitajika sana na waajiri, jambo ambalo lingewatia motisha vijana wengi kujiunga na vyuo hivyo kama wangejua umuhimu wa taaluma zipatikanazo huko.“Taaluma ambazo zinahitajika sana na waajiri ni pamoja na zile za mitindo na miundo, ushonaji wa nguo, uchomeleaji wa vyuma na uhunzi, uunganishaji wa mifereji, ufundi wa vifaa vya umeme na vya kielektroniki, uashi, usimamizi wa

Peter Ndambiri, alisema wakati wa tamasha hizo kuwa Serikali ya Kaunti ilikuwa imetenga shilingi milioni hamsini mwaka huu wa kifedha wa 2019/2020 ili kuimarisha miundo msingi katika vyuo vyote 15 vya ufundi anuwai katika Kaunti ya Kirinyaga.Alisema lilikuwa lengo la serikali hiyo kuwapatia wanafunzi mazinginra yafaayo katika vyuo hivyo wakati wakijifunza taaluma mbalimbali zitakazowawezesha kujitegemea. “Waajiri wengi katika kaunti hii na kwingineko sasa wanahitaji wafanyaka-zi wenye ujuzi wa kiufundi kwa sababu ya miradi mingi ya maendeleo inayote-kelezwa, lakini vijana wetu hawa-onekani kuwa na ari ya kujiunga na vyuo hivyo,” alisema.Ndambiri aliwahakikishia wanafunzi hao kuwa taasisi hizo zitaboreshwa na

Kwa hivyo wanafunzi hawapaswi kujiona duni machoni mwa wanafunzi wanaosomea vyuo vingine,” alisema Ndambiri.Mwanafunzi mmoja wa chuo cha ufundi anuwai katika kaunti hiyo hata hivyo, alidai kuwa uhaba wa wanafunzi katika vyuo hivyo umetokana na wazo potovu kuwa vyuo vya ufundi vilijengewa watu walioanguka mitihani ya kitaifa.

Kinatoa mafunzo ya teknologia ya habari, ambayo yanapendwa sana na wanafunzi.Vyuo vingine vilivyoanzishwa wakati huo ni vile vya Kamiigua katika kaunti ndogo ya Kirinyaga Mashariki, Nyagati na Mucii wa Urata katika kaunti ndogo ya Mwea Mashariki na kile cha Mutitu katika kaunti ndogo ya Kirinyaga ya Kati.Nancy Muringo kutoka kijiji cha Gitwe, ambaye mwanawe alisomea uashi katika chuo cha ufundi anuwai cha Kaitheri na akafuzu mwaka uliopita anasema kijana huyo, ambaye alijiunga na chuo hicho akiwa na umri wa miaka 18, sasa amekomaa na anajitegemea.“Nilimsihi mwanangu kujiunga na chuo cha ufundi anuwai kwani sina mzazi mwenza na singeweza kumudu karo ya chuo kikuu, na sasa anajitegemea kwa sababu ya kazi za uashi anazopata,” alisema.
