First United Methodist Church You have seen the signs around the church that say, "IT'S COMING" Some of you have asked, "WHAT'S COMNG"? My answer is, "It's Coming" !!!!!!!!! It is a series of five Sun- day's that is designed to impact your life spiritually and equip you to be a change agent in the community of Manchester and beyond. A team from this church (home grown Coffee County/ Manchester fellow church member's ) have been working hard, praying hard, and spending many hours to develop this five week series. I am excited be- cause, this is not a program handed down from the denomination or annual conference folks, this is a move of the spirit of God. I have felt God's anointing on this ever since we started talking about it. I am grateful to Ken Kimble, Marlin Hoover, and a host of other people who are working behind the scenes to bring this to be. "IT'S COM- ING" OCTOBER 23, It will be here for Sunday School and Worship. DON'T MISS IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now a personal word: 9/11 has been a long time ago. Our world has forever changed since then. It is a scary place. With the current political situation, political agenda's, and blame game's going on, one has to wonder WHAT NEXT? We struggle as a nation, as families, as individuals, and the list goes on. It seems at times that we are simply spinning out of control. I want to share some good news with you and I hope it will touch your heart. Set the Scene: It is the evening of 9/11. The sanctuary of the church where I was pastor at the time was PACKED. It was a prayer service because of the activities of the day. There was crying, mourning, pain, anxiety, and every other raw emotion that you could think of. I sure you remember that. We simply opened the doors of the church for anyone to come in and pray and stay as long as they wanted to. I don't remember much else about that night except for Mrs. Dorothy Struthers. She was in her late 80's or early 90's, her late husband was a United Methodist Pastor. I remember her beautiful ENGLISH ACCENT. She and I, and a few others prayed to- gether every Sunday morning, but I will always remember her prayer that evening. This dear lady, simply prayed, "Dear God, I thank you that you are still in charge. Amen." I needed to remind myself and wanted to share that truth with you. God, is still in charge. Remember that!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes we need to quit trying and start trusting. Or as one little boy said, "The Lord is my shepherd, That is all I need to know". Have a great week. On the Journey, Randy Brown Sunday Service Worship Service 8:25 am—Early 10:55 am-Late Sunday School 10:00 a.m. Youth (Check schedule ) Sunday 5:30 p.m. & Weds 5:30 p.m. Kingdom Kids (children) Weds.6-7:15 p.m. October 12, 2016 A NOTE FROM DANA… The final draft of the Emancipation Proclamation was taken to Abraham Lincoln at noon on January 1, 1863. Twice the president picked up his pen to sign it, and twice he laid it down. Turning to Secretary of State William Seward, he said, "I have been shaking hands since 9:00 this morning, and my right arm is almost paralyzed. If my name ever goes into history, it will be for this act, and my whole soul is in it. If my hand trembles when I sign the proclamation, all who examine the document hereafter will say, “He hesitated.'" The president then took up the pen again and slowly but firmly wrote, "Abraham Lincoln. " That historic act endeared Lincoln to the world as the Great Emancipator. There are times in our faith journey that we might hesitate to do the will of God. In these moments we need to put our faith in God and resolve to do it. Not because it will make us famous, but because it is the will of God! Grace and Peace, Dana I hope that you had a restful and productive fall break. NEXT Sunday October 16, we will be going to a Murfreesboro District wide event in Murfrees- boro. We will leave the church at 2 p.m. and return about 8 p.m. The cost of this event is $5. This includes games, hay ride, corn maze and food. The event will be held at the Grove at Beatty Farms in Murfreesboro (across the road from the avenue) Fall Retreat is Friday -Sunday October 21-23, in Beersheba Springs. The cost for this trip is $50. This includes 2 nights lodging and 5 meals and snacks and drinks to have while there. Both city and county schools dismiss early on that Friday so we will be leaving the church at 3 p.m. that afternoon. We will return on Sunday by noon. Warmth in Winter is January 27-29, 2016 at Opryland Hotel and Convention Center. The cost of this is $140 for the weekend. This includes the retreat weekend, 2 nights lodging at Opry- land, and 2 breakfast meals. Your teenager will be responsible lunch on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday other than that this $140 will cover the rest. Thank you for allowing us to come alongside of you of this part of the journey. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please do not hesitate to speak with me about them. In the GRIP of HIS grace, Randa ANNOUNCEMENTS WESLEY WANDERERS will meet a week EARLY in OCTOBER! We are meeting on Thurs- day, October 20 (instead of the 27 th ) at the same TIME, 10:30 AM. Wesley Wanderers participants please note the change in DATE! The Sanctuary Choir will resume practice this coming Wednesday evening at 7:15 PM in the choir room.
