Buying Time

Hello my friends,,

What if we had to pay money for time?If that was possible, I think we would have cherished every second, trying to make use of, and invest our energy, in every minute of our lives. I don’t think anyone would be too lazy to do any required task. For many people, today, time flies away without them even realising it.Ahmed Shawqi, the famous Egyptian “Prince of Poets” said:“A man’s heartbeats tell him that life is nothing but minutes and seconds”If we look at life from this perspective, we would have better appreciation for the time we have. We have started the summer holidays and there is still much time left ahead of us. This is the best time to spend on self-development and improvement of character and skills.Think about it, my dear friends: Try to invest in yourself. I guarantee you success if you stay committed. Make a good deal with time, and choose the best ways to invest it in something useful and fruitful, but meanwhile have your share of fun and relaxation. At the end, you will find results that can astonish you. You will harvest much profit!

The Traffic and Roads Agency has contributed to the Fireworks Hazards Awareness Campaign launched under the slogan “Stop! Live Safely” by the Dubai Police› General Department of Protective Security and Emergency. Representatives from the agency delivered the message to the public from all nationalities and age groups in various spots across the Emirate of Dubai, such as Al-Etihad shopping mall, Al-Shawab rest.house and the Indian Club Parents were advised not to buy fireworks for their children due to the big hazards they bring to their children and to the whole society. They were also advised to report to the nearest police station any shop that sells.fireworks in order to take proper actions against them

The Traffic Department, represented by the

Traffic Awareness section, has participated in

the Ramadan summer camp at Bel-Remaitha

Club. The event was attended by a group of

children who interacted with the presentations

made about traffic safety and the topics, stories

and traffic competitions that are covered by the

monthly Salama magazine, which is published in

.both Arabic and English languages

Salama staff members were keen to receive

feedback from the children about the magazine

and their suggestions for more topics they like to

see in the publication. This was made during a

brain storming session held at one of the halls of

the club, where opinions and new positive ideas

were exchanged between the children and the

team, which contribute promo to traffic culture

.among all sections of society

Child Safety programme sponsorstoddlers and rewards parents

Innovation Ambassadorslaunched with MBRCGI

The number of new mothers benefitting from the Child Safety programme launched by the Traffic & Roads Agency represented in Traffic Department has reached 2,321 new mother. These expecting mothers were visited by representatives from the agency at Latifa Hospital and Dubai Hospital. The visits were made in cooperation with Dubai Health Authority and Johnson’s.Baby, and with support from the UAE branch of Safe Kids International The Child Safety programme consists of weekly visits and workshops formothers before and after delivery at the hospital. These visits and work- shops aim to increase their awareness about how to keep their children safe, especially with respect to always having a child seat in the car and how to use it to keep the child protected from any harm. Each mother is also given a booklet containing general advice for children’s health as well as general traffic safety rules. A draw is made every month where one mother.wins a car’s child seat

The RTA Traffic Department continues with its strong driveto raise traffic awareness among the public, using differ- ent innovative methods including interactive workshops and modern exhibitions, in addition to electronic or digital means such as the Electronic Awareness and flashes that.can reach the largest segments of society During the second quarter of this year, the number of total views in the digital campaign reached more than 4 million. This followed the dissemination of the traffic rules aware-ness message in various places, from schools and librar- ies to government and private-sector institutions – not to mention metro stations, which are increasingly being used by bigger numbers of the passengers from both residents.and tourists

In Cooperation with Mohammed Bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation (MBRCGI), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a traffic competition for university students, which aims to promote a culture of thinking and innovation. 18 entries out of 7Universities have been submitted in the com- petition through the RTA Website, which were a testament on students’ enthusiasm andcapabilities to propose new innovation solu- tions for today’s challenges. The competition’s panel of judges recently started the process of evaluating the entries that deserve to win and nominate 5 innovative ideas out of 18, then choose the best 3 entries. Cash prizes will be awarded. 10,000 AED will go to the firstwinner, 7,000 AED will go to the second win- ner, whereas the third winner will be awarded .5,000 AED

Importance of making way for other cars

Scenario: Loulwa Thani

God help them! Why are these drivers not showing courtesy to

the ambulance?!

Sir, please give way for the

ambulance behind you to pass

through

But I was already in

front of him

Sir, please… There is a patient now being taken to emergency. Cooperate with the ambulanc driver to save somebody from

suffering seriously

But thelight signalis still red!

You are right. So please give a signal to cross to the other lane so that driver coming from the other

side can see you, while the ambulance is allowed to

cross a red lightAlright, Sir…

Alright

Do you know that a500-dirham fine is

imposed on drivers who do not give way for

ambulances,

Honestly, I didn’t know.But I guess saving

somebody’s life deserves giving priority of passage

Well said…God bless you…

and please pray for the patient in the

ambulance to be safe

official convoys, police cars, and RTA cars,

in addition to 4 black traffic points?

Rules for riding a motorcycle

Happy Birthday, Rasheed!

Assalamalaykum.. How are

you?

Welcome, brother… We’re hon

oured

Now comes my turn, son, to give you your

present…something you

wouldn’t expect… Look!

Hello, Rasheed… Happy Birthday!

Here is yourpresent

What?Impossible!

A motorcycle! Finally, my dream has come true

Thank you, Uncle

Thank you, auntie

A beautifulpresent… but it requires a lot of

care whenriding it

He has joined a training course a while ago, and I think he is now

qualified to drive it

Have you fully studied allsafe drivingrules andconditions?

Yes, we studied

everything in the training

course

1111

The most important priority, Rasheed, is to comply with the special gear that you need to wear

when riding amotorcycle, as you

can see here Look, this helmet

is essential toprotect the

head while driving a motorcycle

Do I have to wear these clothes,Uncle?

Yes, they protect your body.. It’s also important that you wear strong boots

and gloves

I forgot to mention another thing. It is very important that you wear a light-

reflecting jacket with phosphorous colours

in order for drivers on the road to see you

clearly

Then, I will notallow you to ride

the motorcyclebefore I buy you the safety gear

and clothes

Of course,father, they

are important to stay safe

Well said, Rasheed… and congratulations again for the

motorcycle!

Strangers danger (2)

While Ghaith and his friend were riding their bicycles near home…

Ghaith!... Someone has been following

us for awhile!

Hurry up… Let’s go inside that grocery

shop

My mother told usthat if we felt that

someone was following us, we should take shelter in the closest public place, like a shop or restaurant,

and ask people therefor help

But if we were in a residential area, we should go straight to home if it was not far;

otherwise we should go to the nearest friend’s houseAlright, Salem… Do

you have your mobile phone with you?

Yes, but why?

We have to callmy dad or mom and ask

for help… If we could not reach them, then we dial

999

Hi Hessa! Can I talk to you for a

minute?

Hahahaa…

Hessa is with her friends at the public park

My father told us that if a stranger talks to us, we should respond only

by shaking our heads in a “no” signal, and not go to them, but instead go

immediately to a safe place

Even if he called us by name, it’snot good enough a reason to feel safe and approach a stranger. He might have

heard a friend calling our name ormaybe read it on our clothes or bag,

for example

Why don’t you talk to him? He looks like he knows you…

Wow! Your father is really

wonderful, Hessa!

131313

While Ghaith was outside the cinema waiting for his mother to take him home…

Hello, my littleone… You don’t need to wait all by yourself like this… Let me drive you

on my way toyour home…

No, thank you… My mother is coming to pick me up

You willcome with me,

anyway

Keep silent and get into

the car!

Leave mealone… What

are youdoing?!

Help me…This man is not

my father

Hey you! Leave the child alone!

He’s trying to force me into

his car

Too bad! My plan has failed

I’m reallyamazed byyour son’sbehaviour,madam…

Thank you for your help…I have taught my children that it was not enough to resist and scream, but also to tell people around what was happening. Otherwise passers-by might

think it’s only a tantrumfrom a child

The security man kept waiting with Ghaith for his mother to arrive

When they clearly explainto people near them that this person is a stranger, no doubt

someone would quicklyintervene to helpYou have raised

your children very well, madam… I should also teach my children the

same…

Unacceptable Messing AroundThe two families, the Beavers and

Turtles, went out on a tripto the woods

The two families reached a beautiful

touristic area Two little ones from each of the families went together to play under a tree near the road

The two little ones climb the tree, breaking its branches

and messing around Some of the tree

branches fell on the road

1515

After spending a nice day, thetwo families are packing up to

drive back home

The conduct of the two little ones caused all traffic on the road to stop because of the branches on the road

On the way back home the Beavers’ car hit a branch on the road and it stops, which made the Turtles’ car

stop behind them

Members of both families step out of their cars to remove the branches

and clear the road for traffic

The two little ones admit their mistake; they did not think their behaviour would put their lives

and other people’s lives at risk

Know your BodyThe Skin

Yes, dear

What a wonderful day on

the beach!

That’s why our skin

becomes darker when we spend a long time in the

sun

The skin is made up of

three layers. The external layer, which you can see, is

called the epidermis

The remaining 5% of the

epidermis cells produce the melanin pigment which gives

colour to our skin and protects us from ultraviolet rays that

can burn our skin

True. Did you remember to put on the sunscreen

lotion?

But your skin alone cannot give you

all the protection. You must wear sunscreen and protective clothes and a

hat to avoid painful sunburns

Do you know that our

skin covers and protects everything inside our bodies? It also helps keep our body

temperature stable, and gives us the sense of touch

The epidermis

continuously makes new cells that rise up to the top to

replace the old dead cells. Almost all the cells in the epidermis

(about 95%) go through this process

1

2

3

1717

The dermis contains

many small blood vessels, which preserve the health of the skin by providing it with oxygen and the nourishment it needs

The next layer under

the epidermis is called the dermis. It contains the micro

endings of the nerves that give us the sense of touch when

we touch things

The third layer that

lies below the dermis is called hypodermis. It

is made up mainly of fats to keep the body warm and able to absorb shocks. The

layer also contains the hair roots

and always

cover any scratches or wounds with

sterile gauze or adhesivebandage

We must wash it with soap and water,

We must take good

care of our skin and keep it clean

1818

Training Cars

My friends, this is a training car to train new drivers, and we will be talking about how to deal with the

car on the road

We should recognise that the new driver is under training and he lacks

experience. So we must not overtake him in an

aggressive mannerOther drivers should be considerate to

trainee drivers, and not blow their horns

and make the trainees uncomfortable driving

When you are not considerate and patient when dealing with a trainee driver, you

might lead him to get into an accident

Thus, we must drive carefully, especially

when there is a trainee driver on the

road
