Transcript of A Mighty Savior

Luke 1:68-79

We’ve all found ourselves weak. “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt 26:41). How weak have you been at times?

The message of the Gospel is that you & I are weak and sinful people. “When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died

for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6). No matter how hard we try, we could never save ourselves.

“Visit” doesn’t mean to stop by on a social call. “Visit” means to look after with the goal of helping. “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,

To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction” (Js 1:27).

God has raised up a horn of salvation. An animal’s strength is in its horns.

NRSV: “He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his servant David.”

What a blessing to know that Jesus is a mighty Savior! “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ

Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief” (1 Tim 1:15).

This text says that Jesus can forgive me of all my sins. In Jesus, “we have redemption through his blood, the

forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Eph 1:7).

Baptism is the point at which God forgives us of our sins. “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus

Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).

“Now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16).

For those who are in Christ, the text says that we need to serve God “in holiness and righteousness.” “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good

works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Eph 2:10).

Let me urge you to find your talent & serve God faithfully with it. “Unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one;

to every man according to his several ability” (Matt 25:15). What will you do with the talent God has given you?

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matt 5:16).
