From the President: While January is a time of new beginnings and fresh starts, let’s take a moment before we move ahead to consider what the League has accomplished over the Fall months. Our Fall membership coffee on September 22 got our year off to a successful start with former members and new ones en-joying getting to know each other. Membership has continued to grow each month! See the photos of this event found elsewhere in this issue. Sub Debs held orientation and elected their officers in September. The Mandarin Ball on October 8, chaired by Lisa Paris and Beth Ann Hinds, was a won-

derful evening with more than 300 in attendance. Special thanks go to our generous individual and corporate Ball sponsors for their contributions to this project and to our talented Ball committee for working so hard. The orchestra hospitality and guest artist committees have supported our musicians and guest artists during the Fall concert season in a superb fashion. December brought us Christmas sparkles for our new Sub Deb Jingle Belle Bling fundraiser for MSO. Sub Debs exchanged fashion jewelry with each other as they enjoyed a Christmas party. Thanks to Lisa Roto-lo and Shelly Griffin for putting this together for our Sub Debs. 2012 promises to hold even more exciting events for the League. Plans are now being made for the Mother-Daughter Tea on January 22 at the home of Beth Brantley in Ridgeland. Sub Debs will have their February Cotillion at the Fairview and their annual ball on March 2 when they will enjoy an “Enchanted Evening” at the Plantation Com-mons in Gluckstadt. Cheryl Welch and her committee are working hard on our Bach, Bridge, and Brunch fundraiser slated for February 6 with plans to make it even more fun than before. In January the League continues its educational programs, under the leadership of Paige Sessums, such as vol-unteering at the JPS Children’s Concerts. Catherine Arnold, Chairman of our Side by Side event, has already begun planning for this year’s rehearsal for area high school band members with the MSO in February. Please contact these Board leaders if you would like to volunteer in these events. Plans for the spring luncheon are now being finalized with details to follow in the upcoming months. My goal for the new year is that each of you will make plans to participate in and enjoy at least some of these events. Use these volunteer opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you for your wonderful service and contributions to the League. You are much appreciated. With warmest wishes, Faira Bishop, JSL President, 2011-2012
