NEWSLETTERJuly 2017
CHANCELLOR’S MESSAGE — Michael Mark
My Brother Knights,
July is the start of a new fraternal year. On behalf of Grand Knight John D’Addario and the2017/2018 executive council, we would like to welcome and send our warmest regards to allour Brother Knights in our council. It is now time for all of us to work together in unity towards our number one priority — tofoster charity within our community. We also need to demonstrate solidarity, fraternity and actwith humility at the same time. We must realize the importance of a unified council and worktowards cooperation and open communication with our Brothers, and participate in variousevents and activities more than ever. Let us understand the importance of our mission as amember of the Knights of Columbus and why we joined this organization in the first place. Weare called upon by the Lord to be charitable and serve our community in kindness. These actsof charity cannot be accomplished without the efforts and hard work of brother knights takingthe initiative to champion fund-raising ideas that turn into actual events, with assistance froma team of Brother Knights that will further enhance our council’s goals. Remember our creed:“In service to one, in service to all.” Our Lord commands us in scripture to act humbly as weperform good deeds within our community and worldwide.
Proverbs 21:13: “If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out andnot be answered.”
2 Chronicles 7:14: “... if my people, who are called by my name will humblethemselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hearfrom heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal the land.”
Vivat Jesus, Michael MarkChancellor

ENGAGING IN SERVICE
This is the 14th article that outlines what our duty as Knights of Columbustruly is. Our work as Knights focuses on six service categories of Church,Community, Council, Family, Culture of Life, and Youth. The K of C ServiceProgram is organized around these topics. In this article we'll start looking atFamily Activities and ways that we can strengthen family life by dedicatingour support of this category.
Parents all want the same thing — a strong, happy and healthy family. They are aware theyneed time to be together as a family, and in today's world that's hard to find. Countlessdemands are always pulling at the family unit. Kids face similar time problems.
Family Life
To help families be together and have fun, Council 5073 can offer ready-made activities thatrequire families only to participate. Here are a few of many.
• Adopt a needy family with help from the parish, social service agencies or similarcommunity groups. Offer the family training, employment opportunities, clothing (bothwinter and summer), food, education for children and adults, housing.
• Hold a Family Contest for council families that can take the best picture, catch thelargest fish, bake the best cake, raise the most charity funds, and offer the most foodfor a food drive.
• Plan outings designed especially for families such as visits to museums, cathedrals, university campuses, parks, zoos, and factory tours, etc.
• Complete, print and distribute a Council Family Book of Memories with written history ofcouncil families, what makes them unique, relating personal experiences and ideas forfamily programs, to put in a booklet and distributed to council families.
These are a few more ways we can be a catalyst to increasing family time.
In August's newsletter we'll continue to look at Family Activities – Strengthening Family Life, with ideas on Education.
