A Covenantal

Meal

• “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20).

• A meal ratified the covenant and showed that:– All parties associated agreed to

the terms of the covenant– All parties were going to be

committed to the terms of the covenant

– They were understanding the consequences not only for obedience to the covenant, but also for disobedience; the blessings and the curses.

• “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 18 Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?”

– 1 Cor 10:16-18– This meal is a meal of fellowship

l Meal

• “this is My body…this is my blood” (Luke 22:19-20)

• God’s Priests partake of the sacrifice– “Observe Israel after the flesh:

Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?”

– Reminder that we share in the blessings of Christ’s offering of Himself. His sacrifice gives us spiritual life, makes us priests, and sustains us spiritually
