There were five booths including Glendora Interi- ors, Chris and Wes Purkis Real Estate and Luxe Hair Salon. Annette Nemeth of Glendora Interiors and her assistant Ashley, had a very busy booth, since they were handing out snacks and asking people to register for a raffle drawing. Annette's husband John, who takes care of their Covina office was also present giving them moral support. All the booths had flower arrangements donated by Glendora Florists. This event is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. showcasing the vari- ous business on Glendora Avenue. It is at the Plaza in the Glendora Village and runs in con- junction with the Farmers Market which also functions on Saturdays from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. The Glendora Farmers Market is steadily gaining popularity with many booths selling organic vegetables and fruits, orchids, spices and unique artisenware. Marilou Vela and Nanette Philips who were at the Hospitality Booth, were seen talking to visitors to the Expo. Visitors to the Farmers Market and the Business Expo spill out onto Glendora Village, where the shops and restaurants do a brisk business. These events are organized by the City of Glendora Business Improvement Dis- trict Advisory Board consisting of Annette Nemeth Chair (Glendora Interiors), Jana Jones Vice Chair (Martha's Candies and Ken Turner Real Estate), Daniel Boyer (Southland Properties), Donald Nolan (Village Eatery) and Dalel Snyder (Glendora Florists). DUARTE - Employees from the Duarte branch of AmericanWest Bank presented the Cory’s Kitchen food bank staff with $989 and 804 food items— the results of their month-long Sum- mer Food Drive. “Employees teamed up with our customers and local businesses all month long in order to make this do- nation a reality,” said Kathy May, Duarte Branch Service & Solutions Manager. “Making this gift to Cory’s Kitchen from our annual food drive is one of the great benefits of working at a com- munity bank that truly cares about what’s impacting residents and then takes action to be a part of the solu- tion.” The drive at the Duarte Branch was part of AmericanWest Bank’s com- pany-wide food drive through the month of May to assist local food banks with stocking their shelves be- fore children are out of school for sum- mer vacation. The Memorial Committee is still raising money to build the project at City Hall. Featuring fashions modeled by Glendora Woman's Club members, the show included several categories of women's apparel. Decorations and table arrangements were coordinated in the show's theme of "Designer Sketches." Providing the music during the show was Jay C. Munns at the keyboard. Proceeds from the club's annual event will go toward the club's ser- vice projects and philanthropies, said Club President Sue Bauer. Azusa Women’s Club presented two $500.00 Scholarships to local Azusa Students. The recipients are Amber Sessler and Heidi Carreon. Amber graduated from Azusa High School with a grade average of 4.43. She will be going to Tulane University in New Orleans. Her major will be Biomedial Eng. Heidi graduated from Gladstone High School with a grade average of 4.14 and will be entering USC to study Journalism. Azusa Women’s Club has a Schol- arship Dinner once a year during Oc- tober Golden Days. This Scholarship program is to sponsor students from the Azusa area to help them to further their studies at a university. Donations are welcome for this cause.
