A Message to the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation Community from Robert L. Kilroy, Chair, Milford Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees

There has been much to celebrate at Milford Regional Medical Center over

the past two years, from moving essential services into the Meehan Family

Pavilion, to opening three urgent care centers in key locations within our

service area, to carrying out plans to further enhance the programs and

services most needed by the people who depend on us. We continue

to focus on patient safety and quality initiatives while striving to achieve

greater efficiencies. We’ve engaged a senior physician consultant to assist

in optimizing our exceptional medical staff’s ability to advance patient care.

There is a lot going on, and there is never a dull day!

We rely on the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation and all of the

incredible people who so generously support the Medical Center at every

turn. You are essential to meeting our goals, achieving our successes,

addressing the expanding needs of the community, and improving the health

and well-being of individuals and families across the region.

In my role as Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am uniquely privileged to work

with and get to know so many people who contribute so much – their time,

their talents, their knowledge, their wisdom, and their resources. Together,

we are keeping our finger on the pulse of what the community needs and

doing whatever is necessary to meet those needs. Although the healthcare

landscape sometimes appears to be in a constant state of flux, one thing

remains consistent at Milford Regional – our supporters’ selfless commitment

to ensuring access to high-quality care for everyone in the community.

To all involved in our Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation community –

whether volunteers, Board members, affiliated physicians, professional staff

members, 1903 Society members, or other charitable donors – thank you so

very much for all you have done and continue to do to make Milford Regional

Medical Center a place where exceptional healthcare services are provided to

A Message to the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation Community from Edward J. Kelly, President and Chief Executive Officer, Milford Regional Medical Center

I am grateful for this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for the

overwhelming level of support demonstrated by Milford Regional Medical

Center’s generous donors and friends. At a time when many community

hospitals are struggling to maintain their autonomy in today’s challenging

healthcare environment, Milford Regional continues to thrive, grow, expand,

and carry out our mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to our

community with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Our long-standing success as a strong, vibrant community resource is

a direct result of the partnerships we have established with individuals,

groups, and other organizations that recognize and appreciate the value

of community-based care. We are fortunate to have a remarkably talented

and dedicated team of physicians, nurses, allied health professionals,

support staff, and employees whose capacity for putting our patients first is

unsurpassed. Our partnerships with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham

and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and UMass Memorial

Medical Center bring high-quality specialty services to our community

setting and set the stage for seamless transitions to and from the most

appropriate levels of care. Our relationships with local police departments, fire

departments, city and town officials, and other agencies bring the best of the

best together to address critical community needs.

Community involvement has been at the root of every major achievement at

Milford Regional Medical Center. When a need is identified, members of our

community never fail to rise to the challenge and find a way to meet it. The

most recent example of this impressive show of collaboration, camaraderie,

and solidarity is the Meehan Family Pavilion. When the need to build a

state-of-the-art facility to provide highly technical emergency, intensive care,

and inpatient services in a comfortable, attractive setting became clear, you

made the vision a reality by raising an unprecedented $25 million through the

Excellence Campaign. There are no words to describe the powerful impact

our donors have!

With the opening of the Meehan Family Pavilion come additional opportunities

for us to improve access to care in the communities we serve. We are

relocating a number of services to the spaces previously occupied by those

now located in the new building, and we have opened three new urgent

care centers in Hopkinton, Milford, and Northbridge. We have come a long

way, and I look forward to continuing the journey. With such loyal and driven

supporters by our side, I feel confident that Milford Regional Medical Center’s

future is bright. Thank you!

It has been another phenomenal year for the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation’s dedicated family of donors, clinical staff, employees, trustees, volunteers, and clinical and community partners.

As we reflect on all that has been

achieved as a result of your shared

vision of providing high-quality

healthcare for our community and in our

community, we feel a tremendous level

of gratitude and pride.

This year, a total of $2,930,240 was

contributed by more than 2,200

generous donors to support a wide

variety of Milford Regional programs,

services, and initiatives. We celebrated

the 28th annual Milford Regional Medical

Center Golf Classic and the MyFM

101.3 & WMRC 1490 10th Annual

Radiothon on August 28 at Franklin

Country Club. The Golf Classic raised

more than $250,000 earmarked for the

Excellence Campaign, and Radiothon

proceeds dedicated to supporting the

Oliva Fund for Cancer Care at Milford

Regional Medical Center surpassed

$91,000. Once again, the Mélange

Gala and Live Auction proved to be

the black tie event of the region. More

than 300 supporters enjoyed the event

on October 28 at Whitinsville Christian

School, and raised more than $670,000

the second largest fundraising year for

the signature event.

It is hard to believe that two years

have passed since the Meehan Family

Pavilion at Milford Regional Medical

Center opened its doors – a historic

achievement made possible thanks

to all who generously participated in

our remarkably successful $25 million

Excellence Campaign. How fortunate

we are to be part of a community so

dedicated to ensuring Milford Regional’s

ability to meet the expanding healthcare

needs of individuals and families

across the region. We thank each and

every one of you for your unwavering

commitment, and we look forward to

continuing to work together to ensure

that Milford Regional will continue to

serve the community for generations

to come.

more than a century,” says Anthony

Consigli, CEO of Consigli Construction

Co., Inc. (Consigli). “We appreciate the

value of our community hospital and

all of the benefits it brings. Our families

and employees rely on the Medical

Center’s resources.”

Anthony and his brother Matthew

are the fourth generation to take

the helm at Milford-based Consigli.

The business was established by

their great-grandfather in 1905, just

two years after Milford Regional

Medical Center first opened its doors.

Community involvement is integral

to the Consigli legacy. The company

established the Consigli Foundation in

2001 to advance the health, education,

and well-being of disadvantaged

children in the community. The

company’s leaders and employees

also support a variety of local and

international charitable causes.

Anthony and Matthew regularly attend

Milford Regional’s annual Mélange

Gala and Annual Meeting, and

generously support the Excellence

Campaign, the Golf Classic, and other

fundraising initiatives. Anthony served

on Milford Regional’s Adolescent

Health Committee and Meehan Family

Pavilion Building Committee, and says,

“The new building was a great team

accomplishment. Everyone focused

on doing what was best for the

hospital and the project.” He is also a

member of the 1903 Society and a

former trustee of the Milford Regional

Healthcare Foundation.

Consigli has partnered with Milford

Regional on many improvements over

the years, including the Hill Health

Center, the surgical suite expansion,

the Dana-Farber Cancer Center, the

Emergency Department renovation,

and the Meehan Family Pavilion. “I’ve

had the benefit of working with a lot of

hospitals, and I treasure how special

Milford Regional really is,” Anthony

says. “It’s a wonderful resource and

a central part of our community.”

Reynold Dahl, MD, a physician at

Blackstone Valley Family Physicians,

and his wife Wendy Dahl, LMFT,

formerly a licensed marriage

and family therapist at Riverside

Community Care, moved to the

Whitinsville/Northbridge community

in 1985. For more than three decades,

their relationship with Milford Regional

Medical Center has touched many

lives in many ways.

“The relationship with Milford Regional

is very collaborative,” says Dr. Dahl.

“We’re always assured that they’ll be

supportive of every endeavor aimed

at improving the community’s health

and well-being.”

Dr. Dahl recalls working with the

Medical Center in 2000 to set up

the Blackstone Valley Free Medical

Program – through which Milford

Regional provided laboratory, x-ray,

and other testing free of charge. “It

was a huge benefit to the community

and continued for 15 years until the

state-wide health care program was

established,” he says. He also notes

the Medical Center’s support when he

travelled to Haiti following the

2010 earthquake, saying, “They

provided everything we needed.

We were able to bring 2,000

pounds of medical supplies.”

Dr. Dahl also appreciates the Medical

Center’s commitment to developing

programs and services to meet

the needs of the local community.

“Together, we’ve built on our foundation

over the past 30 years,” Dr. Dahl says.

“Tri-County Medical Associates and

Milford Regional Medical Center have

expanded our practice to include six

family physicians, a nurse practitioner,

and a physician assistant. They’ve

also improved access to care by

bringing family medicine, urgent care,

obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics,

rehabilitation services, occupational

health, laboratory services, and

radiology to one convenient location.”

‘‘ Hopedale native Gordon Lewis and

his wife Robin say Milford Regional

Medical Center has been a part of

their lives for a long time. “We both

grew up in the Milford area,” Gordon

says. “Robin and I married young and

raised our two sons here. Now we are

grandparents of two boys and a girl.”

Gordon, a partner with Milford-based

Altman & Company, LLC, is treasurer

of the Milford Regional Medical Center

Board of Trustees, chair of the Finance

and Investment Committees, and

a member of the Audit Committee.

Gordon and Robin are also members

of the Milford Regional Healthcare

Foundation 1903 Society and

are generous supporters of the

Excellence Campaign.

The couple’s active engagement

with the Medical Center began in

the late 1980s, when Gordon was

approached by the Foundation to help

initiate the Milford Regional Annual

Golf Classic. The goal was to raise

$10,000 to $15,000 that first year. The

inaugural event actually raised more

than $40,000. Twenty-eight years

later, the Golf Classic and concurrent

WMRC Radiothon raise more than

$300,000 per year to support

programs and services at the Medical

Center. Gordon has continued to

support the Classic, and says, “It’s

a pretty special event, and a great

opportunity to give my family early

exposure to volunteering and being a

part of the community.”

something that does a lot for a lot

of people,” says Gordon. “Milford

Regional not only cares for residents

of our communities at the Medical

Center, it extends its services and

outreach efforts to people throughout

Laura and Marc Mann appreciate

Milford Regional Medical Center as

more than a great place to receive

medical care. “Milford Regional has

such a far-reaching impact,” Laura

says. “It’s a nonprofit community

hospital, community employer, and

community resource that brings a

wealth of programs and services that

benefit so many people.”

“I’m a Milford native, so the Medical

Center has always been here for me,”

says Marc. “In fact, my father used

to live four houses away from what

is now the Meehan Family Pavilion.”

Laura’s introduction to the Medical

Center coincided with the births of the

couple’s two children in the early 90s.

“We were so impressed with Milford

Regional that we wanted to become

more involved,” Laura notes. Marc

agrees, saying, “We were all in.”

Both Laura and Marc serve as

corporators at Milford Regional. Laura,

who practices law in Milford, also

serves as clerk on the Milford Regional

Medical Center Board of Trustees and

is a member of the Milford Regional

Healthcare Foundation Board of

Trustees. In addition to participating

in the Excellence Campaign, the

Manns are avid supporters of the

Foundation’s Mélange Gala and

fundraising events.

“Milford Regional is about community in

every sense of the word,” says Laura.

“In addition to having remarkably

dedicated and exceptionally qualified

caregivers who deliver high-quality

care, the Medical Center brings

opportunities for members of the

community to learn about their health,

helps young people develop job skills,

partners with local schools and other

organizations, and reaches out to

vulnerable populations. As a not-for-

profit organization, the Medical Center

supports the community on many

levels, but can’t do it alone. That’s why

it’s important for the community to

support Milford Regional.”

The Fine Arts and Athletic Facilities at Whitinsville Christian School provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening for the more than 300 guests who attended the 13th annual Mélange Gala and Live Auction – A Musical Journey! Held on Saturday, October 28, the event held true to its leitmotif as guests were greeted by living statues of Jimmy Hendrix and a jazz trio, an impeccable Elton John impersonator, and upbeat melodies as they entered the musical themed setting for signature cocktails and a silent auction.

Dinner, remarks, and a spirited live auction by Paul Zekos of The Zekos Group took place in the vibrantly decorated ballroom while guests enjoyed the energetic musical entertainment of The Blackstone Valley String Quartet, Encore Vocal Ensemble, and Freestyle. The event raised more than $670,000 thanks to the generous support of event co-chairs Andrew and Julie Salmon, presenting sponsor UniBank, sponsors, guests, volunteer organizing committee, Milford Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees, and Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees.

The 10th Annual Radiothon presented by MyFM Media, MyFM 101.3 and WMRC 1490AM, had a banner year, raising more than $91,000 to support the Oliva Fund for Cancer Care at Milford Regional Medical Center.

Held simultaneously with the Milford Regional annual Golf

Classic, the Radiothon extends a unique opportunity to the

community to support local individuals and families facing

challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis. More than a

single-day event, the Radiothon inspires donors with on-air

interviews and a Town Crier envelope appeal. Many thanks to

MyFM Media and to the Radiothon sponsors and donors for

making the event such a tremendous success.

The Oliva Fund for Cancer Care was established in honor of Milford’s Oliva Family for their ongoing commitment and generous support of Milford Regional Medical Center and the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Oliva Fund provides the necessary resources in support of patients and their families being cared for at Milford Regional Medical Center and Dana-Farber/Brigham & Women’s Cancer Center and Milford Regional.
