A DAY ON THE YACHTDavid and Ethan’s First Play Date

For this assignment, my little brother Ethan was the subject. I chose to study his interactions with the son of a friend of my dad’s. Since my dad’s friend has a yacht, we took it out for the day, and this was the first time the two boys met. I wanted to study how children who are complete strangers interact with one another,. This is because the beauty in little kids is that one second they meet you, and the next they can be your best friend. They interact with each other much differently than adults. David (upper left) and Ethan (upper right) were not exempt from this. They met on the yacht one morning, and by the end of the day they were the best of friends.
Prior To The MeetingDavid showed little to no excitement when he was told that he would meet a new friend that day. He sat on the yacht, and went on with his business.
Ethan, no different than David did not show the slightest bit of interest in making new friends. On his way there, he was more interested in munching on snacks than meeting someone new.
The Meeting
When David and Ethan first met, they were not very fond of each other. They did not say hello, nor did they shake hands or introduce themselves. They simply stared at each other for quite some time. It did not however take them too long to get comfortable.
Getting ComfortableBy mid morning, David and Ethan finally found something that they had in common. MOVIES!!
David has a large collection of DVDs that he acquired for birthdays and gifts from his many loved ones. He decided to show them to Ethan, so that they could pick a movie to watch while the Yacht set sail.
Lunch TimeBy lunch time, you could see that the boys were more comfortable with each other’s presence. David and Ethan munched on all of their favorite foods together.
They realized they had even more in common when they both only wanted chicken instead of steak, and cola instead of water. They did not however converse with each other while eating.
Mischievous FunAfter lunch, the boys decided to roam around the boat. After discussing their favorite superheroes , they got bored and decided that since they had already eaten, it was now lunch time for the fish.
David and Ethan wanted to play like their dads. So, instead of putting bait on their fishing hooks, they fattened up the fish that were caught for dinner with grilled garlic.
Getting Caught
It wasn’t a pretty sight when the boys got in trouble for feeding the fish! They did however stick up for each other. They bravely accepted the fact that they got caught, and went off to find something better to do.
More Fun
In order to prevent them from ruining dinner, the boys found a wheel barrow when the boat was parked back at the Marina and they decided to take a ride on it.
For the rest of the day they giggled and laughed while people took turns racing them down the Ventura County Marina.
Saying Good-Bye
The day was long, but David and Ethan went from being complete strangers to best friends. Their moms were already planning their next play date.
