Hofstra offers a variety of campus
events, designed to suit your interests.
CultureYou dont have to go to Manhattan to see a great
show! There are many spirited student groups oncampus, such as Hostra Concerts, Danceworks
and the Spectrum Players. In addition, our
Department o Music presents jazz, classical
and medieval perormances each semester. And
Hostra Entertainment is our on-campus production
company; recent productions includeAnnie,
National Circus Project, andDavi Sings Sinatra
(world premiere).
Students are also encouraged to attend conerences,
lectures and other events hosted by Hostras
academic departments and schools and the Hostra
Cultural Center. The Hostra University Museum,
which is accredited by the American Association
o Museums, boasts a permanent collection o about
5,000 pieces. The museum also hosts many events
and exhibits each year.
CareerEach September, The Career Center hosts a
myraid programs and events designed to assist
students in discovering, planning and achieving their
career goals. Whether you are graduating in the next
ew months, deciding on a major, or making a career
move, The Career Center can help.

CelebrationEvery year, Hostra celebrates the holidays with a treelighting ceremony. Hostras tree is one o the largest
living Christmas trees on Long Island. Following the
ceremony, all members o the campus community are
invited to visit our holiday village, which is created by
Hostra students. Students also attend the annual
Dutch, Irish and Italian Experience Festivals.
This year we celebrate 75 years o Hostra University:
75 years o academic excellence, growth, community,
service, scholarship, success, and most especially,
Hostra Pride and Purpose. Hostras history
encompasses the story o our great University as well
as thousands o stories o individual achievement, o
our students, riends, amilies, aculty and alumni. For

EnvironmentThe Office of Student Leadershipand
Activitiescan assist you in acclimating to campus
and adjusting to college life. Counselors and
staff offer one-on-one assistance to all first-year
students, and the office coordinates Explore Next
Door, a series of events for new students. These
events have recently included:
v Trips to Broadway plays such as Hairspray,
and other productions, including the Radio City
Christmas Spectacular.
v Museum excursions and a television studio tour
in Manhattan.
v An apple and pumpkin picking trip with a
hayride.
v Trips to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and
Central Park.v Sporting events such as New York Yankees and
Mets baseball games and New York Islanders
hockey games.
v Learning projects, such as a day of service
with Habitat for Humanity.
Transferring to Hofstra?
The Office of Student Leadership and Activities
also assists transfer students. Orientation
sessions are planned to help you learn more about
campus resources, connect with your classmates,
understand the curriculum, meet with advisers, and
register for classes.
