Pre Season Weekly Wrap 2014– Edition 1

Presidents Welcome

Welcome everyone to the 2014 season at the AJAX Junior Football Club. We hope you have all enjoyed the summer break and are pumped and ready to lace up those boots, grab a footy and hit the oval to play and enjoy this wonderful sport of ours.

A special and very warm welcome to the new players and families who have joined the "Jackas" family this season. We hope that you enjoy being a part of this wonderful club. We also welcome back players and their families for another season of Junior Football.

This year, we will be fielding 17 teams in the Under 8, 9, 10,11,12,13,14,15,16 and 17 age groups. We are looking forward to another very enjoyable and successful season for both the players and their families. We also have our very successful Auskick program running this season with 200+ Auskickers ready to learn the skills of our great game. For the new Auskick participants and their families, welcome to the AJAX Junior Football Club.

During the off season the club has been very active on two fronts. First of all we have appointed Marty Pask as our new Director of Football. This is an important role to the club and we are very fortunate to have a person of Marty’s calibre on board. Marty is a former Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs player and his main role will be to build a professional and technical football culture at the club and develop training and coaching programs. Welcome Marty.

The other important announcement is the Senior and Junior clubs have officially merged together and will be under one structure. The new organisation known as the AJAX Football Club Victoria Incorporated (AFCV) will be responsible for the management, development and future direction of the club from Auskick right through to senior football. The merged club provides a clear message to our sponsors, supporters, players, leagues and the broader community that we are one football club with common goals and objectives.

I express a thank you to all of the Coaches and Team Officials for the 2014 season who have volunteered their time to support the AJAX Junior Football Club. It is their efforts that enable us to field the team's week in, week out so please help them in any way you can during the season.

I am delighted to welcome our SPONSORS for the 2014 season. As Club Sponsor for the 2014 season we greatly appreciate and welcome back Michael Ludski and his high profile company

We thank Michael and the team at Teska Carson for your continued involvement in the AJAX Football Club.

We also welcome as a new Major Sponsor

We are delighted to have a high profile and recognised brand as Antler Luggage on board. Thank you to Sonney Roth for your support.

Also continuing as Major Sponsors for season 2014 are:

We also extend a very warm welcome to our Club Supporters for Season 2014.

All these sponsors are supporting local Jewish football and we encourage and urge our football community to support these businesses that support our club. Without the help of sponsors we couldn't provide the players with such a fantastic junior footy experience.

AJAX Football Club would like to thank all our Sponsors for 2014.

Go JACKAS!

Under 8/9/10 Induction & Jumper Presentation Evening

On Sunday night, 30 March 2014 the AJFC hosted the U8/9/10’s Induction and Jumper Presentation evening at the Blake Street Shule.

The President of the AJFC, Daniel Antman, opened proceedings by welcoming everyone to the AJFC, especially the new U8 players and their parents.

The evening explained the new modified league rules for season 2014 which has an impact for the U8, 9 & 10’s.

The parents and players were also informed about how the club operates, the expectations of the parent group by the club and most importantly by the South Metro Junior Football League, the team selection process, season structure and safety issues.

At the conclusion of the evening all players were presented with their new “Jackas” jumper. This was an exciting moment for the new boys (and their parents) as for some of them this was the very first “Jackas” jumper ever received.

Some snaps taken on the night were:

An offer from the Weekly Wrap Sponsor – The Dental Co Your Parents always told you, don’t leave home without protection, and well guess what, they were right.

As a practicing clinical dentist with over 30 years’ experience, I have unfortunately seen many dental sporting injuries, usually significantly worse for not having worn a mouth guard. Split lips, knocked out and broken teeth, broken bones and concussions, probably not totally preventable by wearing a custom fitted mouth guard, but is predictably lessened by the presence of a protective device. Given the high cost, financially and emotionally, of repairing dental injuries, why wouldn’t you take the extra effort to have a professional mouth guard fitted.

Pre Season Weekly Wrap 2014– Edition 1

A pro cyclist won’t get on their bike without a helmet, a pro boxer won’t go in the ring without their mouthpiece, a cricketer won’t face a ball without his pads, why should we enter the footy field without our protection, our mouth guard! There seems to be 2 different types of mouth guards generally available. The “Boil & Bite”, available from pharmacies, sports stores and of course the internet, vary in comfort, support and price and do offer some level of protection but generally not a lot and this style seems to create the most challenges due to the poorer fit and retention. Frequently not worn or not worn properly because they don’t fit well, the players often have difficulty with breathing freely, talking and general comfort. Better than no guard but generally not as good as the next option. (Prices for these range from $10 - $60). The Custom fitted again, available from Dentists, Dental Prosthetist and probably the internet (is there anything you can’t get on the internet?). Best made by having an upper and lower plaster cast made of your teeth and then a professionally fitted, moulded guard for your top teeth. They can be manufactured in a variety of thickness and colours, but for the potentially high impact collisions of our football, it’s hard to beat the benefits of a custom fitted, laminated mouth guard. (Prices range from $100- $250 depending on the circumstances.) So just to recap, football is a contact sport, the coach always says “Get your head over the ball” and unfortunately accidents can happen. In support of the community The dental Company will provide a professional fitted sports mouth guard at private health insurance rebate (that is no out of pocket expense for the guard for patients with private health insurance), with every new patient consultation and maintenance clean. Offer valid until the end of May 2014 Good planning is good management, so spend the time (and money!) to get that little bit of protection so that when it’s your turn, you at least have done what you could have to get the best result.
