It has been a hot and busy Summer here at First UMC! It is hard to believe that August is almost over. We had a slew of kids and servants for VBS, over 50 servants to go on mission with Jesus (one group is leaving this Saturday), youth lake and swim- ming pares, Rummage Sale, middle school and senior high Bible studies, new covering for our stained glass and that is just to get started. I am thinking – hoping actually – that the heat has ‘broken’ and we are in for cooler temperatures, but that does not mean we are slowing down. Our Wednesday night meals, choirs, and classes will start up very soon, Ministry Fair in September, the bike ride, new children’s church ministry, men’s BBQ, youth retreat, church cleaning day, plus much more. My mother always had me involved in every- thing possible (i.e. sports, music, church) because she knew if she could keep me busy I would stay out of trouble – it worked most of the me. Now, we are not staying busy at FUMC to keep everyone out of trouble, nor does our plethora of acvies mean that we are really being the church of Jesus (busyness does not equal discipleship). The intenon is to offer opportunies for spiritual growth through service, fellowship, worship and study. I want to remind us all that in the midst of all the good things we are doing that we remember our priori- es at First UMC: Follow Jesus, Love God and others, and Go in mission. Not only is that important for us corporately, but it is important for us individually. We must take the me to develop our relaonship with Jesus. The acvity is good, but it can get in the way. If we know our priories then we can evaluate all of the ‘things’ we have to do and hopefully learn to say no to the good stuff so we can say yes to the best stuff. It is my hope that First UMC will boldly Follow, Love and Go for the Kingdom. That is our call! That is our Mission! I have no doubt that if we are faith- ful to His call that He will build His Kingdom in and through us! Way to go First! Let’s keep going! WILD WEDNESDAYS TONIGHT is Chicken & Fries and Kickball!! Maria came to Holston Home when her mother could

no longer take care of her because of a drug addiction.

Holston Home’s mission is to provide hope and healing

for a brighter future by sharing the love of Jesus with

children and families struggling with life’s challenges.

During Maria’s time at Holston, her mother also

received the help she needed to secure housing and

remain drug free. Maria was able to return home

because of the love and support she and her family

received through HUMHC. Please give generously this

5th Sunday, August 30th, and support the mission

of Holston Home for Children.
