Principal’s Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members

It is hard to believe that the end of Term 3 is already upon us. This term has been extremely busy with a wide variety of activities

taking place which our students have been involved including KROP, Festival of Choral Music, Education Week , Trent Barrett

Shield, Leeton Eisteddfod, Premier’s Debating Challenge, Premier’s Spelling Bee, a variety of PSSA sports and the Riverina

Athletics Carnival just to name a few.

Next term is also shaping up to be a busy one with students involved in a variety of activities including the Stage 3 Canberra

Excursion, Stage 2 Dubbo excursion , Kindergarten Altina excursion, School Spectacular and a variety of school based activities.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge all parents to complete the Partners in Learning Survey. This survey which aids

future planning closes in late October. To date we have only had 11 parents complete this survey out of a possible 500! On

completing the survey take a screen shot and send in via email to have your child placed in a draw for a special prize. Details

regarding accessing this survey online can be found below.

TERM 4 DATES

Term four commences on Monday 14th October at 9:25am and goes to Wednesday 18th December.

Kindergarten Transition Program – Wednesday 16th October

The LPS transition program for students starting Kindergarten in 2020 will commence on Wednesday 16th October (Week 1 Term

4). The program will run for 8 weeks (until Wednesday 4th December) from 9:30am until 11:10am.

Letters have been sent home to all parents who have indicated that their child will be attending these sessions. If you have

completed the EOI transition form and haven’t received your letter please contact the office.

If you know of anyone yet to enrol in the program and they have students who will be attending LPS in 2020 please encourage

them to come into the school office to obtain an enrolment pack.

The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey

Our school will once again be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me

suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions

about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

This survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These

include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the

school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on a public computer. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to

complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 22nd August and 21st October.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

I encourage you to take part in the survey by following the link below and completing the questions.

http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/w4wq2

If the survey opens to a login page, please copy and paste the link into your internet browser. This will ensure the survey launches directly to page one of the survey. On completing the survey take a screen shot and send in via email to have your child placed in a draw for a special prize.

If you are experiencing any problems with this process, please contact the school.

As always I encourage open channels of communication between the home and school. Parents are encouraged to contact the

school office to make an appointment to discuss any matters regarding their child's education with the relevant teacher or

Assistant Principal.

Attendance and absences

Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 have a responsibility to make sure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

Being sick, or having an infectious disease

Having an unavoidable medical appointment

Being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

Exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral

Parents are required to provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Parents can contact the school by telephone, written note, text message or email. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7 day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on your child's record.

Currently with the high level of sickness that we have had in the area I would like to encourage parents who have students sick at home to get a medical certificate from the Dr to cover the days students have been absent.

Year 1 Excursion

On Friday 20th of September, Year 1 went on an excursion to Narrandera. We went to the Fisheries where students watched a

movie about the Centres research into endangered and threatened fish species.

The students then played a fishing game and learnt about different species of fish. After that we went and saw some birds and

got to look at some yabbies in the fishing nets. Then we went and had a look in their amazing aquarium and saw lots of different

fish. We met ‘Agro’ a Murray Cod. He followed our fingers along the tank and we even got to see him eat a yabbie! We then got to

touch some little turtles and we did some colouring in.

We then got back on the bus and had lunch at the Narrandera Park. Afterwards we went out to the Narrandera Wetlands. We

learnt about the importance of the wetlands and why we have them. Next, the students got broken into 3 groups. One group got

to look at some of the bird species through binoculars. The other went for a walk with Glenn and listened to the local frogs. They

also looked at where the water came in and out of the wetlands. The last group got to look at water samples from the wetlands

with Mrs Smith. They could see some tadpoles and small insects.

We had such a lovely day exploring the Narrandera Fisheries and Wetlands. We would like to thank all the people at the Fisheries

and Wetlands for taking the time to show us around.

Year 1 had lots to explore at the Fisheries and

Narrandera Wetlands!

Peer Support

During Peer Support this week, the children will be discussing and developing ways to be responsible. The activities will reinforce the concept that being responsible is doing what we say we will do and to the best of our ability.

This week help develop with your child 2-3 things they can do around the home to show they are responsible ie feed the dog each night, set the table at 6.30pm each day.

Stage 2 Todd Woodbridge Cup Riverina PSSA Regional Tennis Final

On Thursday 19th September eight Stage 2 students went to Wagga to participate in the Todd Woodbridge Cup for tennis. We

competed against lots of other schools in the Riverina area. We won a few games and although we didn`t make it to the next

round in Sydney, we all had a wonderful time and everyone played so well.

By Lex T

It was nice to meet new kids from different schools. There were kids from 20 different schools. We all had good games and got

some good rallies with each other. We loved going to Wagga with Mrs Hetherington. We all liked when Mrs Hetherington let us

swap around our partners so we got to play with all our friends. Thank you for taking us Mrs Hetherington.

By Zara L

It was a really fun day because we got to talk to other kids from other schools.

By Ellena H

On Thursday 8 kids went to Wagga to play tennis. We all had lots of fun and a good time. I would like to say thank you to Mrs

Hetherington for helping us and our parents and grandparents for taking us.

By Eli L

It was such a pleasure taking Willis, Aimon, Lex, Eli, Jasmeen, Ellena, Charli and Zara to Wagga for Tennis. They had such great

sportsmanship and tried their hardest in all their games. We were lucky enough to have parents and grandparents to take the

students across and lots of support from them cheering the students on. Thank you to everyone for a great day!
