Lesson: Meet a teen diva
Materials: - books, copybooks- cassette, cassette-recorder- hand-outs- map of The United Kingdom
Lesson aims: - to talk about a past experience, using the appropiate tenses; - to talk about future plans and intentions;- to predict the content of the reading material;- to scan the text for details;- to express opinions about a diva’s life
1. Warm-up activityAim: - to find out six British cities after rearranging the letters Time: 3’T pins up the map of Great Britain and asks Ss about the countries that form the U.K.(England, Wales, Scotland, Eire) Ss complete the hand-out with the names of the cities in the U.K.
2. Speaking activityAim: - to talk about a past experience, using the appropiate tenses - to use the correct linkers Time: 4’Several Ss talk about their past experiences, when they realised that “a friend in need was a friend indeed”.
3. Checking of previous knowledgeAim:- to role-play the lesson Fancy seing you again! -to answer questions on the textTime: 4’Several Ss read the lesson.T asks questions like : Why is Matt going to be back late? (Because he’s got rehearsals); What does Mrs Carr ask him to do? Why? (To come in quietly because they may be asleep) a.s.o.
4. Speaking activityAim: - to talk about future plans and intentions - to practise pair- workTime: 3’Ss invent a summer tour of a pop band (name, dates, activities, a.s.o.) and write their ideas on the hand-out. They work in pairs to tell the other S about the plans and intentions of the band.
5. Grammar reinforcementAim: - to use the correct form of will, may/might or going toTime: 2’T checks Ss comprehension on the usage of future verb forms:We use will to make predictions (Dinner will be ready at seven); to make a decision or a choice (I’ll have an apple); promises (I’ll be back); be going to to make predictions about immediate future (It’s going to rain); may/might to talk about possible future arrangements.

Checking the homeworkAim: - to complete with the correct form of the verb Time: 5’Several Ss read the homework.T checks the understanding of the notions in a dialogue in which Ss have to write what each person is saying, using the correct future form.Several Ss come to the Bb, T checks their answers with the rest of the class.
7. Pre-reading activityAim: - to predict the content of the reading material - to guess the meaning of unknown key wordsTime: 5’T asks Ss if they know of any famous singers, musicians or actors who started their carreers very young. T pre-teaches key vocabulary:
a sleepover party; giggle; runaway success; chaperone; schedule; conquer
Ss look at the young girl in the picture and predict the content after reading the title: Meet a teen diva
8. Skimming the text Aim: - to skim the text and get the gist Time: 3’Ss skim through the text to get an idea about the difficulties young performers face in today’s world.
9. Reading activityAim:- to read the text and pay attention to detailsTime: 6’Ss read the text.
10. Scanning the textAim: - to complete a publicity factfile for CharlotteTime: 6’Ss complete the factile: Name; First album; Achievements; Qualities; Family background; How discovered; Immediate plans; Ambition.
11. Speaking activityAim: - to discuss about the pros and cons of a young professional singer’s lifeTime: 4’Ss express their opinions, T interferes only when necessary, allowing the discussion to run freely.
12. HomeworkAim: - to write a composition about A day in the life of a famous person.Time: 2’T explains the task and goes through the homework orally.
