8th Grade Girls’ Volleyball

By Jordan Knipp

The season is officially ended. Our next journey is high school volleyball and we will be pushed for college ball now, if you choose to go that way. Everyone worked hard and gave it their all. It is sad that this is the end of our 8th grade year and now we may even get split up next year and play with upperclassman. The 8th grade played Sat-urday at Mill Creek High School and fought hard. We ended with blood, sweat, and tears on the

court. It is sad to say goodbye to middle school ball, but we know we are put into good hands in high school and hope to bring home the wins next good. Good job ladies!

Speak

As Melinda Sordino en-ters High School in Syra-cuse, New York, she is al-most immediately faced with endless amounts of stress and depression. Melinda can escape this reality through her love of art and has developed a friend in her new art teacher. Melinda often finds herself thinking over what changed her life last Summer. Making posters and hiding in the shadows of her school will only make her more sad. Melinda is now left with only one thing left to do.

Speak.

Monthly Poem By: Ella Scott

A meadow rolls green as far as

the eye can see, Where the wild flowers spring

along the banks of a stream,

The mountains grow tall ,

With the water of constant fall,

A mocking bird starts to call,

And a great buck watches over it

all.

Fluffy white clouds begin to

roll by, Rolling, rolling, across the sky, The sun behind

them ever so shy, Higher than the

birds that fly ever so high.

The History of Halloween By: Chloe Temple Halloween began as the festival of Samhain (a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest sea-son and the beginning of winter). It was part of the ancient Celtic religion in Britain and other parts of Europe. The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ire-land, the United Kingdom and northern France, cele-brated their new year on November first. This day marked the end of sum-mer ,the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often the time with human death. At the end of summer, the Celts thought the barrier be-tween our world and the world of ghosts and spirits became very thin, letting

monsters through. People dressed up as creatures and lit bonfires to ward off the spirits. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November first as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, gained some of the tradi-tions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into trick-or-treating, and other fun activities. People today think that actual ghosts and monsters don’t exist, that they are a bit of fiction. But, who knows? There must have been some reason for the Celts to think that monsters ac-tually came out on Hal-loween. So much so that this tradition has lasted through the ages.

Try You don’t have to try to be anybody else, because you are different. We are all different in a way. That may be by how we look , but that does not define us. We are peo-ple , and people are not perfect . We also have dif-ferent opinions and abilities that form us but does not explain who we truly are. You

can be yourself and let your spirit shine through an-ything you use to try to hide it. Don’t hide natu-ral beauty. Let it shine. By: Madison Schiffelbein
