PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Season 2020 has been like no other season and I sincerely hope we never see one like this again. We welcomed Jade Sheedy as our second coach in the last two years and the playing group adapted quickly to the changes and standard expected of them by Jade and his assistant coaches.

Congratulations to Jade and League team on winning the SANFL 2020 Premiership and to Jordan Foote for winning the Jack Oatey Medal. In addition, congratulations to Brad Graham and the reserves team on winning the SANFL 2020 Reserves Premiership. This year will go down in our history as it is the first time we have won both the Reserves and League premierships in the same year. Thank you to Jade, Brad and all the assistant coaches for all your hard work during this most challenging year.

A special thank you to the Women’s side, whilst not making the finals showed improvement in the skills area and already the squad has been picked for season 2021 and the players are looking remarkably fit and ready. We wish Tess and the players all the best for season 2021.

Congratulations to Shane Reardon and Darren Hams with the U18s finishing the season in 3rd place. As a Club we continue to have a considerable number of players being drafted. Again, this year was no exception with 5 players being picked up in the draft and another 2 in the rookie draft. This continual stream of draftees reflects on the quality of our football programs, especially our junior programs. A huge thanks to both Shane and Darren for your continuing work and for making our junior programs the envy of our competition.

A huge thank you to Luke Powell, Matthew Goldsworthy and the staff for all the extra effort required this year due to the pandemic. Without your dedication and hard work season 2020 would not have occurred. A massive thank you as well to Mike Whinnen and all the backroom and medical staff. The extra work that you have all taken on this year has been immense and we cannot thank you enough for all you do for our football Club. A special thank you to all of our volunteers who continue to work tirelessly for the Club.

To the Board, thank you for your support and commitment during 2020, it has been quite a different year with many ‘ups and downs’. A special thank you to David Couzner for all your work in assisting the new recruits to gain employment and accommodation, along with your continued commitment to the APY Lands and the Inclusive Academy. The facility at Eastern Parade is well on the way and should be completed by February 2021. We look forward to being able to use that facility next season.

A special thank you to all of our sponsors who continued to support our Club throughout this year. In addition, thank you to all our members and supporters for your continued support. Although this year was challenging, the ongoing support of you all was heart warming and gave us hope.

Our licensed premises both at Oval Avenue and 722 Port Road, Beverley are being well managed and show very positive financial returns despite being shutdown for a number of weeks and the social distancing rules. Well done to Sam Conlon and Vicki Wright who have had to work extra hard to ensure that all the new rules and restrictions were adhered to during the year. Thank you to all the staff of both facilities for your commitment to our Club especially during the lockdown.

Congratulations to Joseph Sinor, on winning the 2020 Club Champion award, and to Jovanka Zecevic on winning our women’s Best & Fairest for the 2020 Season. You both had an outstanding year. Congratulations to all the AFL draftees we will be watching your progress throughout 2021 and wishing you all the very best.

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful, happy and safe New Year and look forward to seeing you again in 2021.

LICENSED VENUE REPORT

As you would all be aware we, like other hospitality venues, have had a very different and challenging year. It was also a very challenging year for staff, many of whom did not qualify for JobKeper and therefore had no income during this time at all. However, upon learning that we could reopen, although in a limited capacity, the staff were back full of enthusiasm for what the remainder of the year would hold. We have managed the restrictions although they changed often, and at very short notice. The staff have been amazing and adaptive during this entire year. We have had a number of functions that had to either be cancelled or postponed especially in the leadup to Christmas. Through the wonderful work of our chef Kuyan we made a surplus this year and will work towards continuing this trend in 2021. The grand final night event was a great success and we were congratulated by SA Police on being to comply with the restrictions in place at that time. We look forward to a more relaxed environment next year. SAM CONLON VENUE MANAGER

SEVEN22 REPORT We started our financial year in November 2019 with a budget which was on track for the first four months, until COVID-19 hit!!

On 23 March 2020, at a moment’s notice, Seven22 ceased trading, packed up and shut down! For a hospitality venue, this is/was an unprecedented event.

We were in unknown territory.

When the news came in on Sunday 22 March, 2020 that we could trade until midday on Monday, I made a decision not to trade and start what was a very sad day for all the staff as we all worked together to shut down our work place. We persevered what we could, cancelled services, cleaned and secured the premises all of which brought a sense of uncertainty to us all.

Uncertainty of one’s future does have an effect, so I made a genuine effort to keep my staff at Seven 22 engaged by keeping in touch with them all with weekly emails and phone calls.

When the news came through that we could re-open, my fantastic staff was on board immediately and as a team we spent a day cleaning the venue, rearranging the furniture, stocking the bar and kitchen, and preparing the venue for trade and re-engaging all the required services. I cannot thank my staff – my team enough for their support and energy. I think we all missed the place and wanted to get back to normal but normality as we knew it was gone and all businesses, like Seven 22 had to operate under new guidelines.

We reopened on 1 June, 2020 for food and beverage under restrictions. Gaming resumed under restrictions on 29 June, 2020.

On our return we saw people just wanting to get out to have a beer and a parmi!!

When gaming returned, we saw a very large spike in turnover for the first 8 weeks. This is in part due to the foresight of the board who supported my idea of meeting the cost of moving gaming machines in the gaming room to make better use of the space under person per square metre rule. It was a positive move.

Then, just as we were getting settled, a six-day lockdown presented another challenge and then a further challenge when it reverted to three days only. It has been a turbulent year!!

On returning to the ‘new norm’, in the later part of this year, the introduction of Bank Note Acceptors, Ticket in Ticket out and Facial Recognition were a gaming requirement. I submitted a plan to the Board to bring us up to date with the new legislation, with new machines and machine upgrades to make our room 65% compatible. It was approved and put in progress. This was to go live on the 26/12/2020 but has been pushed back to February 2021.

In summary, our year has been challenging and one that no one could have predicted but the dedication of the staff at Seven22 for me has been overwhelming with love for our club.

Job Keeper has been well received but I need to acknowledge the support from Christine Williams and Luke Powell whose support and communication during the uncertain times has been very much appreciated by all.

And yet, in such an interrupted year, double premierships. Seven 22 congratulates all concerned.

We all look forward to bigger and better times in 2021.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

As has been said many times before…..what a year! From playing a couple of trial games and getting ready to press go on the start of the season, to being completely shut down in a matter of days. With the uncertainty of everything that was happening around the world, never in my 25 years at the Eagles have I experienced the eeriness and emotions that swept through the Club back in March. Thankfully everyone involved in the SANFL, including members and supporters, dug deep and we managed to eventually get the season going again. We are so very thankful that it did, as what a season it was for the Mighty Eagles - rewarded with fantastic Grand Final wins by both our League and Reserves teams to claim their 2020 Premierships.

I would like to thank everybody who took out a membership in 2020 despite not knowing if the season was going to go ahead or not. This shows true commitment and loyalty and we are very grateful for the wonderful support you show to your Club. I’m sure it is rewarding knowing that you were a financial member in the “Covid” year of 2020 – a Premiership year.

Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, game day crowd numbers were limited and many of our match day experiences, including our Family Friendly area with jumping castle, were not allowed. Also, the handing out of signed footballs to the kids at the end of games was another casualty of the situation.

Our Past Players functions took a hit last season but we still managed to get together and have a show utilising the Cricket Club’s facilities which was attended at full capacity. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our PPO Golden Eagle fundraising group for their generous contributions, which go towards helping our Junior Player Development Programs. The Past Players & Officials Group also sponsor a trophy at the Club Champion night.

Our Women’s team membership continues to be well supported. Many of our members pay a little bit extra ($20) on top of their existing Club membership fees to help assist with the running costs associated with putting the team on the park each week. Tess Baxter and her assistants have some good new recruits coming into the team, so we wish them well for the coming season.

Despite all the challenges faced in 2020, we still managed to finish the year with 2063 members which is only slightly down on last year. A big positive is that we had 197 new members and 42 who renewed again from previous years. Hopefully the numbers will increase again for 2021 after the wonderful performances put in by our League and Reserves teams. The Football Department are recruiting some exciting players to compliment our already strong list, so now more than ever is a great time to become a member of the Mighty Eagles!

In closing, I would like to encourage everyone to renew/take out a membership in 2021 and to also encourage any family members or friends who might have an interest in the Eagles to get behind our teams as well. Thank you for your continued support, as Membership is an integral part of our Club’s financial stability.

MARKETING & PARTNERSHIP REPORT

Well what a year we have had! 2020 Double Premiers in both League and Reserves was a great reward for everyone’s commitment, hard work and dedication; with what was at times an extremely difficult year in unprecedented times.

The start of the year started to show us that 2020 was going to be difficult; however we are pleased to say that all our long-term partners have continued to support the Club and never hesitated to offer their continued support.

The commercial reality was that some of our partners were going to be impacted, which ultimately made it difficult to continue to support the Club in 2020. During the course of the year we continued to forge new partnerships whilst building stronger relationships on our existing. This was a result of the Club’s commitment and strong desire to focus on providing opportunities with beneficial business to business networking opportunities. Our support to our partners during the uncertain times was unwavering and we are extremely proud to have such long term relationships. A special mention to Barry Stoodley Pty Ltd for supporting us since our merge 30 years ago. We are also extremely proud to have several other major partners support us for 5+ years, such as the Maughan Thiem Group and Telstra.

The Club’s women program in only its second year achieved player partners for all the squad players which is something we are very proud of.

Our Social Media marketing continues to get stronger with over 7500 followers on Facebook and almost 5000 on Instagram. This is almost a 100% increase to this time last year; which gives us greater opportunities to engage with our fans and the greater football community. A new initiative this year was producing the Clubs own podcast that has enabled us to promote the Club and engage our fans and members across the country. We anticipate to release weekly podcasts in 2021 as we return to a somewhat normal season.

The Club Champion dinner was held this year at Adelaide Oval, with a record number of 400 people in attendance. I feel this highlighted the year and paid tribute to our on-field success as well as all the worthy winners. A big congratulations must go to Joseph Sinor, the 2020 Club Champion.

On behalf of the Club, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our Commercial Partners for your support during 2020 and being part of our Premiership year.

COMMUNITY INITIATIVES & INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT REPORT

Community – Cultural and Social Inclusion In what has been a challenging year for all, the WWTFC has not only been successful on the football field, but the Club also continued to be a leader in community engagement and supporting cultural and social diversity.

SANFL Inclusive Academy In late December 2019, WWTFC Football Director, David Couzner was appointed as the Head Coach for the SANFL Inclusive Academy. This appointment witnessed the WWTFC Men and Women players rallying around the appointment and volunteering their time and football knowledge to improve the community awareness of the SANFL Inclusive Football League and more importantly the players. WWTFC Players such as Jesse Lonergan, Jimmy Toumpas, Rhyan Mansell, Zahn Anthony, and Kate Poole all jumped on board and assisted with appearances at training sessions and club information nights. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the AFL Inclusive Carnival was cancelled and the SANFL State Inclusive Players were unable to show their talent to the broader football community. As a result of the cancelled carnival, the WWTFC in conjunction with SANFL Disability Programs Team committed to hosting a State combine game at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval following the WWTFC & North Adelaide match on 6th September. The game was a huge success with the WWTFC league players forming a guard of honour for the men and later staying to watch the game and support the players.

COMMUNITY INITIATIVES & INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT REPORT CONT.

Ice Factors The WWTFC's long-standing partnership with the Ice Factor program continued throughout 2020. The Ice Factor program was established in 2005 to assist schools in their efforts to keep ‘ at risk’ students at school. At the end of each school term, The Ice Factor Challenge Cup tournament is held. This year Luke Powell, Jade Sheedy, Matthew Goldsworthy, and David Couzner attend the award ceremonies and talked to the students about the importance of school, employment, training, and positive behaviours.

Alice Springs Unfortunately, this year the APY Lands was unable to run the Far North West Sports League, therefore there was no APY Lands Representative side. However, in keeping with the WWTFC’s commitment to supporting and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities, Luke Powell, Jade Sheedy, and David Couzner ventured up Alice Springs and the remote community of Mutijulu with the Premiership Cup. The visit was designed to work with several schools and to conduct coaching and information clinics.

SANFL Disability Programs In keeping with the club's commitment to supporting communities and people living with a disability, Jesse Lonergan, Zahn Anthony, and David Couzner headed to Clare to assist the SANFL Disability Programs Team to conduct an AFL 9’s training session at the Clare Oval. The program is designed to engage youth living with a disability in physical activity.

WOMEN'S SENIOR COACH REPORT

The 2020 season saw the Woodville West Torrens women’s program move into its second year in the SANFLW competition. With a strong focus on the future, the Board utilised the offseason to plan the second phase of our development. As a result the program welcomed U17 Talent Shield coach Anthony Forby and WWTFC Women’s Committee member Sam Skuse into the program, consolidating the connection between the women’s program and the wider Club community. Sam, who has worked in Club development for some time, was tasked with bridging the gap between the men’s and women’s programs and improving the level of professionalism across the playing and coaching group. We were also lucky enough to welcome Andy Hood, WWTFC Business Development & Marketing Manager, into the program to mentor and develop not only myself but members of our playing group. I must also mention the inclusion of Josh Smith who worked hard across a very testing Covid affected season to maintain the conditioning of the playing group.

The off season also saw out first list revision and although we were able to retain our key players, the playing group underwent a revamp. We welcomed underage talent from our zone including U18 State Representatives Jamie Parish, Jaida Tabb and Charlotte Dolan and also brought in some key mature age recruits including Sophie Zuill (Pulteney), Natasha Holmes (Pulteney) and Mikayla Cavallaro (North Haven).

In a stark contrast to the 2020 season we were competitive from Round 1, going down to the 2019 Premiers South Adelaide by 4 points. Jovanka Zecevic slotted our first goal and Sophie Zuill was influential in her debut match. The following two rounds against Norwood and Sturt were equally competitive, losing by 1 and 8 points respectively. Although we should have capitalised with at least one win, we were able to see the vast improvement of the group from this early stage.

During this time the playing group stood tall on field as well as off, facing tough challenges to keep the group positive and focussed. Zahn Anthony, Ashlee Reid and Stephanie Walker were especially influential during this time. Round 4 saw the women rewarded for their grit and determination, debuting 5 players and jagging our first by 25 points to Glenelg in a dominant display. Zahn Anthony led the charge from the backline, backing up her off-field leadership with several courageous displays going back with the flight.

Unfortunately, at this point the season was delayed due to covid. During this time the support staff, Club and playing group were presented with many personal challenges as were the wider community. I would like to commend all for their dedication, work and commitment during such a difficult time. A special thanks goes to our 2020 Captain Megan Andresen who, in the lead up to our return, made the difficult decision to step down from her captaincy due to work commitments restricting her ability to be present and fulfil her duties. I know it was a difficult decision for her, but it was one she made for the development and growth of our group.

Upon our return Zahn Anthony (Captain) and Ashlee Reid (Vice- Captain) stepped into leadership roles to see the season out. With matches starting up 3 months after the season was scheduled to finish, several of our key players were not available to finish out the year. To add insult to injury we lost key mid Steph Walker in round 6 and were faced with 3 more close losses. After our biggest loss to date against North in Round 8 leaders Anthony and Reid emerged as very key figures in our group, driving us forward and keeping our season on track.

We were able to regroup in Round 10, finishing the year with a win against Sturt on the back of a Best on Ground performance from Annastasia Falkenberg, earning Annie the full 18 votes. Kiana Lee must also be commended on her performance in this match, working hard through a challenging game to kick the sealer in the fourth.

It was certainly a tough season for all involved. I am disappointed we did not come away with more points but at the same time immensely proud of this group and the direction we are headed in. In 2021 we will continue to build our relationship with the wider community and, with the help of WWTFC Talent Manager Darren Hams and Men’s League Premiership Coach Jade Sheedy, cast our net across our zone to continue to invest in local talent.

To Mike, his team and all of our volunteers thank you again. Mike you will get the perfect person for us soon, in the meantime hopefully we see you when we can during 2021. To our leaders Zahn, Ashlee and Megan I say thank you for your work in very trying time. It does not go unnoticed by myself or the Club community. To the CEO Luke Powell, President Christine Williams, everything-man David Couzner, the Board, the WWTFC staff and our supporters, we thank you for your dedication to and patience with our program. We are building a strong base for the future of our Club.

WOMEN'S SENIOR COACH REPORT CONT

To Andy Hood, I hope you can continue to contribute to all facets of the Club. Not only are you working within your role to introduce new partners and expose our programs to a wider audience, you are also working hard to build strong connections and partnerships between the programs inside the Club itself – you are a strong asset and we are lucky to have you on board. Also, to our Football Director Matthew Goldsworthy, thank you for the time and dedication you put into our Club and the level of respect and integrity you show towards our women’s program. To you it is a football program not a ‘women’s program’, an important but rare distinction that I know the Board commend you for.

To our dedicated playing group, stick with it. We are an incredibly young Club and we are headed in the right direction. As mentioned, our 2021 season will have a strong football development focus with a high level of expectation – especially for our second- and third-year players. The reward will be worth the effort.

Lastly a special thanks must go to Samantha Skuse, on whom not only I but the playing group, Club and support staff leant on heavily during our almost 8-month long season. You were the glue.

SENIOR COACH’S REPORT

The 2020 season will go down in the history, with COVID-19 throwing many challenges at us.

We started training back in Mid November 2019 in what was a very tough pre season. The competition then got shut down a couple of weeks prior to Round 1 commencing; with all training placed on hold indefinitely.

The season officially kicked off 27th June 2020 with the first two games at Adelaide Oval, being a 14 games season & top 4 format with no Adelaide Crows or Port Adelaide Magpies involved this year.

The real turning point for the League side was the second half against Sturt in Round 2 at Adelaide Oval where we went on to have a very good win. This saw the Football Club go on an 8 game winning streak.

At the end of the home and away we finished minor premiers with a record of 11-3, this gave us a double chance in the finals which turned out to be crucial.

We lost the first final to a more desperate North, then went on to have a great win against a inform South in the Preliminary Final.

With an attitude of playing to win & taking the game on, the grand final saw one of the best 2nd quarters in grand final history with the C lub winning its 4th premiership in 30 years.

It was great to see 11 debutants this year – Jacob Wehr, Rhyan Mansell, Pierce Seymour, Lachlan McNeil, Lachlan Jones, Tristan Carcuro, Kai Pudney, Zane Williams, James Tsitas, Sam Lowson & Ben Jungfer. We saw James Rowe, Jack Hayes, Jordan Foote & Joesph Sinor all make the SANFL Team of the Year also which is a great achievement.

Congratulations to the WWTFC on a great year winning the Stanley H. Lewis, and to Shane Reardon and the U/18 for making it through to a Preliminary Final & Brad Graham and the Reserves Team on winning the Grand Final; making us Double Premiers in 2020.

Football Clubs are made up of great people and the WWTFC has lots of these. Thank you to the Board, coaching staff, office staff, volunteers, medical staff, backroom staff, players & partners, cheer squad and all our supporters. It was great to see the enjoyment on everyone’s face for all the hard work they have put in over the year.

Thank you to my family; Kelly, Ava, Will & Max who all now share a strong love for the Eagles.

Finally we as a Club can not wait for the 2021 season and the challenges this will bring.

We will strive to get better and work harder. Looking forward to seeing everyone in 2021.

CAPTAIN’S REPORT The 2020 SANFL Premiership season held great promise as we welcomed Jade Sheedy as the new Senior coach of the Woodville West Torrens Football Club. With Jade being our second coach in the past two years the playing group were keen to take on the challenge and adapt to change quicker than the previous year. Jade quickly made his mark on the group with his high standards and strong focus on relationship building being at the forefront. Changes to the season also came in the form of new recruits and coaches. We were lucky enough to welcome Rhyan Mansell, James Tsitas, Sam Lowson, Pierce Seymour, Kai Pudney, mid field coach Jeremey Cini and forward line coach Troy Hall to the club.

With change comes great opportunity and the playing group were keen to get on the front foot early and train hard to make a good impression from the beginning. Running is always a main priority in preseason and Jade ensured that we would be fitter than ever. The new year rolled around and the group came back after the Christmas break in really good shape. We continued to work hard over the next few weeks leading up to our first pre season game against Glenelg at Thebarton Oval. It wasn’t until the week of that game where we actually learnt the extent and severity of how COVID could possibly effect our season.

The following week was when our season effectively got pushed back, and training as we knew it paused indefinitely. To say this was a strange feeling would be an understatement, however as a team we pushed through and adapted as best we could. Zoom meetings and training groups being our best avenues to stay in touch and stay motivated.

Fast forward to late June and our season finally kicked off. After losing our first game we went on an 8 game winning streak to really set up our season. The last 5 rounds saw us have a 3 and 2 record resulting in us winning the minor premiership which was a great reward for our Football Club.

We had 11 players debut this season. These being - Lachy McNeil, Jacob Wehr, Lachy Jones, Pierce Seymour, Ryan Mansell, Tristen Carcuro, Kai Pudney, James Tsitas, Zane Williams, Sam Lowson and Ben Jungfer. This was a tremendous achievement and great credit to not only themselves but also to our centre of excellence program ran by Shane Reardon and Darren Hams who do a fantastic job at developing our Juniors. We also had 3 key milestones this year, the first 2 being Nick Hayes and Jake Von Bertouch who played their 100th game. Our biggest milestone player was Matthew Goldsworthy who in round 8 played his 200th league game for the club. A huge congratulations to them, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to play senior football and they should be extremely proud of their achievement.

The finals this year saw us play some not so good football but also some amazing football which landed us into the 2020 grand final. Our Grand final day started with a bang having Bomber, Gilesy and our reserves boys getting up in style. Having the 2s win and set the tone for the day really got us League players excited for what was to come. We then went on to beat North Adelaide 7.6 48 to the Eagles 13.9 87. What an amazing and rewarding feeling to top off such a challenging year. Over the past 5 years our Football Club has endured a lot and to our credit we have stuck to our guns, believed in ourself and with the right mindset and willingness to keep pushing forward we were able to get the result that this great Club deserves.

Congratulations are also in order for all of the individual achievements for 2020. Joseph Sinor had a great year and certainly deserved to be crowned the clubs best and Fairest. Jordan Foote finished second as well as taking home the Jamie Tape Medal as the players MVP. James Rowe finishing third and winning the Ken Farmer medal also had an amazing season.

Like most years there are always quality people that leave our Football Club so to everyone whose time has come to an end at WWTFC we would like to thank you for your time and efforts over your careers and we wish you all the best for the future.

The players would like to thank all of the Eagles family for their ongoing support throughout the 2020 season. There are too many individuals to name, so to the coaching staff, back room staff and medical staff, thank you for your efforts in season 2020. You truly go above and beyond your role for the players and we really appreciate it.

To the Board and admin staff, thank you for all the work you do behind the scenes in making sure we have the best chance to succeed on and off the field.

Finally to our amazing members, supporters and sponsors, none of this would have been possible without your support and we thank you for sticking with us through the highs and the lows.

Like every year season 2021 will bring new opportunities and challenges but after tasting success, we as a club are hungry as ever to keep improving over the summer and put ourselves back in the same position to have Premiership glory in 2021.

COACH'S REPORT - UNDER 18'S

Like all SANFL Competitions, the 2020 Under 18s Torrens University Cup season was a season like no other – but in the end it was a season full of resolve, flexibility, resilience, as well as some significant highlights and achievements. The team finished 3rd on the ladder after the minor round, winning a thrilling first semi-final against South Adelaide, and then losing the following week to Sturt in the Preliminary Final. My thanks go to the SANFL, the WWTFC and Torrens University for their leadership, administration and sponsorship of the Under 18 competition.

In reviewing our year, here are some of the highlights:

We won 10 of our 16 games, including our First Semi Final win Three players playing Reserves football - Caleb Poulter, Harry Dawkins and Taj Schofield and of course Lachie Jones played League football all year. Five players were part of the AFL (SA) Hub – Lachie Jones, Taj Schofield, Zac Phillips, Henry Smith and Caleb Poulter Lachie Jones, Caleb Poulter, Taj Schofield and Henry Smith were also selected to participate in the SA AFL Combine in September Caleb Poulter and Jase Burgoyne were selected as the Torrens University MVP in Rds 1 and 4 respectively Eight players were selected in the All Stars SA Under 18 squad – Jase Burgoyne, Jonte Hunter-Price, Caleb Poulter, Henry Smith, Lachie Jones, Zac Phillips, Taj Schofield, Jay Watson and Liam Ueding. Additionally another eight players were selected in the SA Futures Under 17 squad – Brayden Calvett, Brock Thomson, Will Neumann, Lukas Cooke, Blake Hansen, Hunter Carter, Adam D’Aloia and Ryan Williams with Blake, Hunter and Adam being Under 16s 44 players got the opportunity to play in the Under 18s team during the year and congratulations to all our trophy winners for the 2020 year.

The coaching staff of Dean Kerrison, Dave Mazey, Mark Furler, Todd Clarke, Aron Redman, Darren Hams and Troy Ledo were outstanding with their flexibility, their energy and great commitment to the boys and their development. They do a great job in giving their time and efforts to the players in helping them improve their football. Henry House brought a some great statistical insights for us.

The Medical and conditioning staff continued to perform their high quality work in a professional and committed way. We are very fortunate to have their advice and practical assistance for the players and coaches. This was especially important and valued as we navigated our way through the critically important COVID-19 protocols.

Kym Matthew once again did a great job as our team manager for the year, ensuring that match day ran smoothly, and all our support staff do their jobs well –whether it is providing drinks, footies, team sheets, polos, guernseys shorts, socks etc –they show their commitment and care every week and we are lucky to have them as a part of our Club.

Once again Darren Hams delivered a high quality development program and his continued enthusiasm for his job, his work ethic, his care for the players and staff and his support for me was much appreciated.

Thanks to Luke Powell, Jade Sheedy, Brad Graham and Brett Giles for their support and assistance during the year. It was fantastic to be at Adelaide Oval on that Sunday in October as both teams completed their Grand Final successes. Jade has brought a brilliant energy, professionalism and work ethic to the Club.

My wife Sharon and my family provided fantastic support throughout the year and that support allows me to devote time to and pursue my coaching.

Finally thank you to all the players who were part of 2020 – it was a really challenging year in so many ways and the players did it tough with the season put on hold, then training schedules were changed and reduced, we had a delayed start, the National Championships were abandoned and of course they had to deal with all the other non football related COVID 19 impacts on both them and their families. Despite all of this, they turned up every week and gave their best and it was a privilege to be able to work with them.

I look forward to 2021 and continuing to play a part in ensuring the Eagles remain a successful SANFL Club.

COACH'S REPORT - U 16'S Like all competitions, the SANFL U16 Program was affected greatly by the Corona Virus outbreak.

After our Pre-Selection period late November until the end of January, 47 Players were invited to display their talents. A squad of 37 players was finalised to represent the Eagles in 2020. Our Squad for 2020 consisted of 19 players from our Country Zone & 18 from our Metropolitan Zone.

We started the 2020 Season with a trial game against Glenelg in late February, before Round One against Sturt at Thebarton Oval on the long weekend of March kicked off. We started the game well with a 14 point lead at quarter time and remained in front at the third quarter break; however Sturt ran the game out better than us and we ended going down by 3 points.

Round Two came along and under strict Covid conditions we took on Glenelg at Noarlunga Oval. Glenelg gave us a football lesson by running out victors by 74 points. By the following Tuesday, the 2020 Season as we know come to an abrupt halt.

I would like to thank our Under 16 Coaching and support staff who have a passion for the players to be the best they can be. To Tony Calio, Paul Sheldon, Kym Markwick our line Coaches, to Daniel Conley S&C, James Schmusch our Runner and to Kym Matthew our Team Manager for their commitment and knowledge they were able to pass onto the players. Thank you to our Physio’s from Leading Edge; Lachlan Hall, David Heyneman & Mitch Howe. Trainers Emily Zdanowicz & Tamara Liddums, and a special mention to Mike Whinnen who tirelessly supports the Club in all grades. Support staff Phil Herraman, Jamie Lisk and Dennis Little all did a magnificient job of helping the team out.

I would also like to acknowledge Adam D’Aloia, Hunter Carter & Blake Hansen who played in the Futures Game late in October.

A huge thank you to the parents in supporting their sons; putting up with their highs and lows as well as transporting them many kilometres throughout the year. To the players, hopefully you have benefited from being involved and I look forward to following your progress throughout 2021.

Thank you to Christine Williams, Luke Powell & the Board on their support. Lastly but certainly not least, congratulations to Jade Sheedy, all the Coaching Staff & Players on the success of our League & Reserve Premiership for 2020.

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT REPORT Other than our League, Reserves, SANFLW, U18’s & U16’s (for 2 games) the only other Underage Programs to get up and running this year was our Under 15 Country & Under 15 Metropolitan Squads.

Both Teams played in the U15 Intrastate Championships which was held during the October School Holidays.

Our Country Team Coached by Ashley Green with assistance from Darren Longbottom & Will Schultz did a great job in assembling the Team which began its campaign from training weekly as of August 26 up until the Championships. Many thanks to the Balaklava Football Club in making their oval and facilities available for the players to train at. The squad consisted of 30 players; 8 from Adelaide Plains, 10 from North Eastern FL & 12 from the Yorke Peninsula.

The Country Team performed well throughout the week by winning 2 of out of their 3 games against West & South, whilst only going down by 3 points to Norwood at the Parade on the final day. I’m sure the lads enjoyed the experience as well as learning about football at a higher level. Many thanks to Ashley, Darren & Will in coaching the team. A special thanks to Ian Pearce who performed the Team Manager duties and to Hayden Battle our Country Trainer.

Our Metropolitan Team Coached by Todd Clarke and assisted by Mark Furler, Dave Mazey & Paul Sheldon. Like the Country Team they had 2 wins also losing their first game against South but went on to have wins over West & Norwood.

Congratulations to the Players, parents & support staff of both teams who amidst this unusual year did a fantastic job in providing opportunity to our future players as we see the most of them roll on through to our Under 16 Program for 2021.

Special thanks to Mike Whinnen & Emma Moore in supporting both teams with their professionalism as training staff.

FINANCE REPORT 2020 was a year like no other and one which we dearly hope is never repeated. During the shutdown in March it was very unclear about when (or if) we would be able to return and what impact it would have on our financial position. However, once we were allowed to open up again, we saw a remarkable financial recovery which was due to the hard work of the staff and Board. We were extremely fortunate that our sponsors, members and supporters continued to support us financially throughout the year. In 2020 the Club realised a combined surplus of $313,602 ($247,453 for 2019) and a cash surplus of $663,085 ($647,329 for 2019).

FOOTBALL The Football Club ended the year with a deficit of $172,740 compared to a deficit of $87,458 for 2019. The increase in the deficit is a result of reduced distribution from SANFL combined with no funding for the SANFL Stadium Divestment funds and reduced distribution from Seven 22. The reduction in revenue was offset by the receipt of Jobkeeper and reduction in match payments for players. A huge thanks must go to Luke Powell, Matthew Goldsworthy, Jade Sheedy, Darren Hams and the football staff in continuing to work within a very tight budget. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Hood and Jemma Comitogianni for continuing to be able to not only continue to maintain our current sponsors but to attract new sponsors at a time where most businesses are reluctant to continue committing to sponsorship. To Melissa McKenzie, thank you for your tireless work and commitment in attracting new members, maintaining current members and managing the purchasing and sale of all the merchandise especially this year following our Premiership. Your commitment to our members is appreciated by all.

LICENSED CLUBS The Licensed Clubs (Eagles Function Centre and Seven 22) realised a combined surplus of $486,342 for 2020 despite being shutdown for 8 weeks and then trading with reduced clientele due to social distancing regulations.

Eagles Function Centre The venue continues to attract a variety of private functions, however a number of these were postponed due to the shutdown and then the continuing restrictions. The hard work of Sam Conlon, Kuyan Hedaux and his committed staff continue to encourage members to attend the venue on Thursday and Friday nights and match days. The Function Centre realised a surplus of $2,089 for the 2020 financial year compared to a deficit of $45,035 for the 2019 financial year. This turn around is the result of a massive effort from Sam and his staff and the Club is truly appreciative.

Seven 22 Seven 22 realised a surplus of $484,252 for 2020 compared to a surplus of $379,947 for 2019. This was an excellent result given the shutdown and the social distancing restrictions suffered this year. Gaming, although having been subjected to strict legislation, still continues to bring much needed funds to the Club and continues to out-perform similar venues. Thanks to Vicki Wright, chef Mark Giles and their staff for their hard work and commitment during the year.

Vicki Wright and her staff have been working tirelessly during the year keeping the venue fresh and compliant during the year ensuring the safety of all clientele and staff.

To Melissa McKenzie and Michelle Diamond, a huge thank you, for always being willing and able to provide me with the help and support whenever requested. In addition, thanks to Jemma Comitogianni for all her assistance in the staging of the events and for her extensive social media skills. I look forward to again working closely with you all in 2021.
