The Brownsville States-Graphic
page 8
While celebrating Patriot Day, all of the students in the class wore red, white, and blue. We even had one student with red, white, and blue hair. Students created pencil flags as the classes discussed 9-11.
Students enjoyed a story about the Twin Towers, “The Man Who Walked Between The Towers.” It depicted the story of Philippe Petit’s tight-rope walk between Manhattan’s World Trade Center Towers in 1974. Students were able to see pictures of the towers then and now.
Students and staff at HJH arrived to school in full Patriot Style Friday, September 10! Students enjoyed the opportunity to wear jeans along with their favorite red, white, and blue shirts while celebrating such a symbolic day.
The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts will host its first senior art exhibit of the year with Chris Craig, a graphic design emphasis student from Stanton; James Moore, a visual art studio emphasis student from Greenfield; and Josh Wilson, a graphic design emphasis student from Arlington.

Building undergoes renovations. The exhibition will continue through October 14. It will be free and open to the public.

Friday, Sept. 10, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services had a special treat for Ms. Teri Cimmins’s science class.
Wildlife Resource Officer Tara Dowdy, along with her assistant, brought her feathered friends to visit. Among her friends were a Red Tailed Hawk, a Bard Owl, and the most popular of all guests, the tiny Screech Owl. Students were in awe with the unique opportunity to learn more about birds of prey that live close to us in our community. It was truly a neat experience!

Haywood Elementary School celebrated Grandparent’s Day and Patriot Day on Friday, September 10. There were 10 “senior” visitors and students enjoyed interviewing their “Super Senior,” tracing their handprints, and showing them their favorite parts of the classroom. Most were able to stay and enjoy lunch with the special student. One of the guests even bought ice cream for the entire class.
