Radiographic Shielding: Yes, No….Maybe?

The recently proposed changes to shielding practices during radiography will be discussed. We will outline the latest empirical research on shielding efficacy for radiation protection while comparing and contrasting the position

statements on radiographic shielding by major industry organizations. Last, we will take a look at the future of radiographic shielding in consideration of ongoing changes in the science of radiation protection and radiobiology.

I AEC

We will explore how Automatic Exposure Controls (AEC) are designed to function on diagnostic imaging systems. Best practices and limitations of using AEC, not to use the AEC, mistakes you want to avoid when using the AEC, and quality

control requirements for AEC will also be discussed.

Global Health Disparity: How Radiographers Can Help

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that two-thirds of the world’s population has little or no access to radiology services. Radiology is a part of nearly every segment of health care, making the absence of radiology a critical piece

of global health disparity. These communities and populations have historically suffered disproportionate mortality and morbidity across a range of conditions due to barriers in accessing health care. Technologists and therapists are a vital part

of the solution. To address this worldwide problem, international societies, foundations and individuals are collaborating on initiatives designed to give medical imaging professionals the opportunity to contribute to the health care needs of the low-resource regions. We’ll explore how you can learn about other cultures and health care systems, use your talents for

improving global health and form lasting relationships with your peers around the world.

Radiologic Imaging In Transgender Patients

This lecture will discuss the potential bariers to care for transgender patients along with specific changes to radiologic care for transmen and transwomen individually. An overview of vocabulary including steps and procedures patients might take to

maculinize or feminize their body. Screening recommendations for radiologic procedures will also be discussed.

Chief Radiographer Radiology Department, National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi LagosRegional Coordinator Professional Practice-Africa ISRRT

“Bone Health” The Radiological Technologist’s Role

In this lecture we will discuss bone health and remodeling including the nutrients needed for proper bone health. Osteoporosis and the consequences it brings will also be discussed. Lastly, imaging modalities will be explored that can best

show different bone pathologies.

Patient Safety In Medical Imaging: Challenges and Opportunities

Patient safety is a major priority for all healthcare professions and is broadly defined as ‘the prevention of harm to patients’.Embedding the theme of patient safety in curricula has the potential to improve patient safety. Radiographers encounter

numerous patient safety issues which stretch far beyond the area of radiation protection. The responsibilities of radiographers and radiologists overlap substantially across most areas; thus team-work within the medical imaging environment is key to ensuring a safe environment for our patients. This presentation will explore the breadth of patient safety issues which

radiographers may encounter on a daily basis and will explore the current status of patient safety-related content in undergraduate radiography curricula across Europe.

Where Have All the Technique Charts Gone?

Even in the digital world, the standard principles of exposure and radiation protection still apply. Current exposure charts are still a MUST to ensure consistent image quality and radiation dose reduction. Additionally, rationales for differences in axial

projections of the knee will be presented to include Hughston vs. Merchant views.

Effective Care and Communication During Covid-19

This lecture will present a look at the impact communication makes on the patient experience in healthcare. Effective communication with face masks and other personal protective equipment including the provision of safe care will be

discussed. Lastly, communicating the elements of safe care during COVID-19 will be explored to ensure patients know that they are safe when receiving care.

Man’s life is built up every day from work; nothing is achieved without it. Over the years, the Connecticut Society of Radiologic Technologists has had some incredible members who have laid down a solid foundation for the Society to build upon. These members, for many years of their professional lives, were hard-working, never-tiring leaders who moved the Society forward. They have lifted our

Society, giving it strength and dignity. These members have attained a zenith in their profession and have been awarded the Life Member Achievement Award for the

Connecticut Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Criteria needed to be nominated:1. Awarded to an active member of the society who has performed outstanding continuous service to the society for at least 20 years.2. Demonstrates active participation for which they have served as a chairman of a standing committee, held office, or whose efforts

have produced an impact on the society.3. Candidate’s name will be presented to the awards committee. The awards committee will try to keep this confidential but a minimum

of 65 points system is used and may have to ask candidate to submit a society resume.4. Life member candidate will be voted upon following recommendation of the awards committee.

5. Life member award must have a 3/4 vote of the Executive Board to be presented to the membership.6. Life members shall not pay dues and will have all privileges and obligations of society members.
