1. Research and CreativityThe major objective is that students demonstrate an ability to research curriculum integration, technology education, arts education; and creativity in their unit concept. You may gauge this from the unit concept presented as to how effectively you believe students have researched all of the topics and how well this research relates to their unit concept, how effectively they support their unit concept with an educational theory, and how creative their unit concept is (i.e. how they have modified an existing unit concept or developed a new unit concept). There should be a clear story presented of how the research process led to the development of the unit concept presented.

There are five capacities in research and creativity we want all students to develop from this course, 1. interpretation of existing unit concepts from any domain and how these can be applied to technology and/or arts education, 2. synthesis of existing unit concepts and how they can be combined into an integrated technology and arts education unit, 3. analysis of existing unit concepts to determine how they would meet technology and arts education outcomes, 4. evaluation of the effectiveness of existing unit concepts to engage students learning, and 5. how effectively the education theory presented explains the advantages to learners of the unit concept presented.

2. Curriculum IntegrationThe major objective is that students demonstrate an understanding of curriculum integration. You may gauge this from the unit concept presented as to how effectively you believe students will engage with the technology aspects of the unit, how well their understanding of technology education will develop through participation in the unit, and how inspiring technology aspects of the unit will be to students.

There are five concepts we want all students to understand about integration from this course, 1. that project based learning (PBL) can be an effective means of curriculum integration, 2. that thematic units can aid curriculum integration, 3. that thematic units can cater for a diverse range of student learning styles and interests, 4. that thematic units provide opportunities to link with national and international projects and competitions, and 5. that integrated curriculum can reduce assessment loads and provide more time for deep learning experiences.

3. Technology EducationThe major objective is that students demonstrate an understanding of technology education. You may gauge this from the unit concept presented as to how effectively you believe students will engage with the technology aspects of the unit, how well their understanding of technology education will develop through participation in the unit, and how inspiring the technology aspects of the unit will be to students.

There are five minor concepts (objectives) we want all students to understand about technology education from this course, 1. that ICT is a subset of technology education but that technology education includes a lot more than just ICT, 2. that educational technology (tools used to help us teach and learn) is very different to the ICT component of the technology education curriculum but can enhance technology education, 3. that the main process in technology education is the design, develop, evaluate cycle, 4. that technology processes can comprise combinations of three resource categories: materials, information, and systems, and 5. that technology education and design challenges can develop student creativity.

4. Arts EducationThe major objective is that students demonstrate an understanding of arts education. You may gauge this from the unit concept presented as to how effectively you believe students will engage with the arts aspects of the unit, how well their understanding of arts education will develop through participation in the unit, and how inspiring the arts aspects of the unit will be to students.

There are five concepts we want all students to understand about arts education from this course, 1. that there are five distinct domains in arts education, 2. that each of the arts is an expressive language that can represent student observations and responses to experiences, 3. that the arts elements can be combined to express feelings and ideas just as words can, 4. that an an initial period of exploration and experimentation can encourage personal solutions to problems and safe risk taking, and 5. that arts education and design parameters can develop student creativity.
