This week in maths we are looking at addition. What does this mean? Do you know the addition operation? When 2 numbers are added together the answer gets bigger. Write the numbers or put your number digit cards underneath each group of objects.

Read the below sentences, sounding out each word carefully. Now ask your adult to slowly read them out to you- can you write them down? Have a try! My damp tent smells as bad as a mad skunk. Do all brown toads grunt and groan? My chimp had a sandwich for her lunch.

Find your one-digit cards. Turn over two of your one-digit cards and write an addition number sentence
e.g. 4 + 3 = 7
Add the two numbers together to find the total.
Colour in the answer on the grid below E.g. (4 + 3 = 7, colour in 7)

Writing I Spy with My Little Eye: Look at the picture at the end of this document. Can you match the Arctic pictures to the words? Could you write a sentence using some of these words?
Phonics Read these words:
for / letter/ fork / toy / boat / tail / coat / boy / cord / annoy/ train/ Lord/ moat Now count how many words have the digraph ‘or. Repeat with the digraphs ‘er’ ‘oa’ ‘oy’ ‘ai’. Can you say how many sounds the word has?

Part- part whole models: Look at the part whole models at the end of this document. Add the numicon parts to work out the whole. Here is an example e.g.
4 + 3 = 7 2 + 3 = 5 Can you write the number sentences too?

What would you need to wear in the Arctic? Talk it through with your adult and have a go at writing a sentence. Use the pictures to help you.
Phonics
High Frequency word bingo- My turn, your turn! Adult point to a word and say the word, child repeats the word. Occasionally adult get the word wrong- can you catch your child out? Children need to be looking at the word and not just listening! Include point scoring- who will get to 10 first?
Maths
Penguin addition – can you work out the addition calculations? Practise crossing the penguins off as you count them or you could use practical objects to help you work out the answers.
