Description of shootDescription of shoot

This is my Favourite Photo of the entire shoot and was captured using a Nikon D3100 using a shutter speed of 1/25 of a second with an iso Sensitivity of 1600. The aim of the photo shoot was to explore and learn more about the theme of architectural exploration and urban landscape photography. We had previously done research into other landscape photographers and this shoot was to help us understand and develop our skill further.

Final ImagesFinal Images

This is one of my final images that I have edited. I really liked the feel of vintage photography from my research so I thought that adding a sepia sort of effect would look effective as it contrasts the Modern day Architecture with a vintage old camera look.

Page 7: 57review

Editing effectsEditing effectsBy first going to images>Black and white and Selecting Tint I played around with the colour until I arrived at a sepia sort of orange amber brown and then I added a Vignette to the image by using Lens Correction Which can be found in either Filter and Lens correction or filter and Distort depending on which version of Photoshop was used.

For this photograph I really wanted to focus on the metallic Contrasting pieces of architecture because I felt it made for an effective picture to have all of the jagged chunks of metal contrasting with the smooth wrought patterns of the bars and tower. I used black and white with a Vignette to really highlight the cold Grey Steel feel of the metal.

Page 10: 57review

Editing effectsEditing effectsAfter Turning the brightness and Contrast up completely, Traditional black and white was not as nearly effective enough as I wanted the picture so I decided to use black and white first then on automatic and use a Gradient map from black to grey to white. This really highlighted and darkened the right areas. The Vignette helps to show of the vocal point of the image

Originally I wasn’t going to use this picture as I thought there was not much I could do with it and I thought it was slightly boring but after a while I thought that it works well with the theme of Urban landscapes and I think it has a sort of postcard feeling.

Page 13: 57review

Editing effectsEditing effectsAfter putting up the brightness and contrast I added a slight rosey pinky photo filter over the top and a slight vignette for effect.

Rejected Images Rejected Images

These 3 images were rejected as they were blurry, compositionally boring and the incorrect settings where used. Every image I shot at night was unusable because I did not use the correct settings but I had already captured enough images from the day anyway so this did not matter.

Aims for next projectAims for next project

I have learned further how to focus the camera on specific points and I have also learned more on composition and placing certain areas inside the composition. For my next project I would like to be able to shoot clearer and brighter images with better composition.

Aim of shoot - portraitAim of shoot - portrait

This photo-shoot was to help further develop our knowledge in photography and magazine layout by first Researching into portrait photographers and magazine layouts. The pictures were for our own magazine spread

Description of shootDescription of shoot

As part of our magazine layout and Design unit we were required to Conduct our own photo shoot for images that we could use on a front cover, a double page spread and a contents page. The Shoot was to also help us understand further the difference between portrait and landscape photography.

This is one of my favourite images which I used for my double page spread. I think its very striking and clear and works well with the title of the magazine Vague

Editing effects Editing effects

Firstly by turning up the brightness and contrast it leaves the image clearer for when it goes into black and white. By then duplicating the layer and using Free transform and swapping the image over to the other side you can then use layer options>Darken or multiply to layer them over each other.

Final imagesFinal images

This image was an accidental camera press in the process of getting another picture the original picture itself is rather blurred and could look to be unusable but after experimenting a bit I came up with this

Page 25: 57review

Editing EffectsEditing EffectsBy first messing around with the colour balance this changes the original image slightly but the more predominant colours will be the ones that show up when posterizing the image with the levels set to 2

This is the image I used for the Contents page. This image was awkward to set up because the model had a ring in one of the eye holes and had to hold the fan behind her head I think it works well though and was worth the effort

Page 28: 57review

Editing effectsEditing effectsAfter turning up the brightness and contrast I then selected the lips and changed the hue and saturation to a vibrant red. After the lips were red I set to work on making he rest of the image black and white by selecting large chunks of the image with the selection tool and changing them to black and white. And then cleaning up the smaller bits with the quick selection tool. I then selected the iris of the eye and then used Content Aware fill to warp the eye image.

Rejected imagesRejected imagesWith these images I was experimenting with a fast shutter speed as the model whipped her hair around but could not get an effective enough picture. The shoe was meant to be in the double page spread but I decided against it and the ring over the eye picture was too blurry for purpose
