Hello from the Winemaker“Summertime... and the livin’s easy...”

Hey rock stars, it’s hard to believe it is June already. Jeez-2015 is fl ying by.

I have always loved June, corn is back in season, school is out for summer and it’s my birthday month! Gotta love a month celebrating Gemini and Cancer folk; we’re good peeps. Little Miss Skylar is growing so quickly; she is two months old on June 3rd. She spends most of her time investigating her surroundings, smiling and she has started to let out an occasional laugh which is ridiculously cute. She is quite amused by the outdoors as well.

Speaking of the outdoors, it’s about time to pull those BBQs out of dormancy and we’ve got the perfect wines to pair with your summer festivities. We all know that June in the Bay Area is just about as warm as February. Thus, the white wine selection we have for you is the gorgeous Russian River Chardonnay and the red wine is the Hendry Zinfandel. Both are perfect wines to keep you company in the cool breezes of June, or the beginnings of toasty warm July.

The 2013 Russian River Chard comes from my family’s Lone Oak vineyard in Windsor. My parents planted the vineyard in 1980 and the vines are the old Wente clone.

We fermented the grapes in 50% new oak, both French and American, using EC1118 yeast which is actually a sparkling yeast, but we really like how it allows the fl avor of the grapes to shine. This profound Chardonnay displays aromas of angel food cake and butter pecan followed by fl avors of sugar cookie, Bosc pear, mango and French vanilla.

The 2012 Hendry Zinfandel is a heavy hitter. Peg Melnik of the Press Democrat recently picked it as ‘Wine-of-the-week’ and said, “This is an edgy zin with ample fruit and a staccato of spice. It has a great concentration of fruit, and the spice keeps pace with it. The Rock Wall is a full-throttle, big-boy zin and it’s knockout.” Thank you Peg!

This wine is jammed with blackberry cream, ripe blueberry, caramel, cigar box, forest, anise, black peppercorn, nutmeg and mineral.

To ensure that guests do not miss out on the sensational view, Rock Wall Wine Company is in the process of creating an outdoor bar where glasses of wine may be purchased. The lounge furniture will be coming back soon, so everyone can relax and enjoy the most breathtaking sunset in the greatest spot in Alameda.

Rock Wall Wine Company would like to remind those visiting the Tasting Room that all persons under the age of 21 are strictly prohibited. Well-behaved children are welcome to enjoy seating on the deck, in the dome and on the tarmac. Parents must supervise their children at all times. Rock Wall has created a fun and relaxing family area. This space can be found where the bright, green Kids Zone banner is displayed. The Kids Zone has been revamped with a bubble machine, face painting and arts and crafts. With more entertaining and thrilling things to come, the Kids Zone is a great area for families to spend time together and create memories.

In an effort to prevent the risk of injury and ensure the safety of all our patrons, no person shall ride any bicycle, roller skates, skateboard or other wheeled devices on Rock Wall Wine Company property. All objects (toy and sporting equipment) designed to be thrown, tossed, kicked or transported by aerial suspension are strictly prohibited. This includes balls, boomerangs, kites and frisbees. Pets are not allowed. Service animals are allowed in accordance with ADA specifi cations. By law, outside alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Outside food is prohibited. Scolari’s Good Eats at the Point is located on the property next to the Tasting Room.

On the fi rst Saturday of every month, Rock Wall Wine Company would like to invite you to kick off the month with Skylite Snowballs ice cream truck. Following the fi rst Saturday of every month, Scolari’s Good Eats at the Point and Rock Wall are teaming up for Brunch and Mimosas Sunday! From 11:30am to 2pm, choose a scrumptious brunch item to pair with your yummy mimosa! Select a sweet or tangy juice to splash in your sparkling wine.

Just a reminder…The tasting room will be closed for Art & Wine Festival on Saturday, June 6th. The Tasting Room will be closing for Food Truck Frenzy on Friday, July 3rd at 4pm. The tasting room will be closed all day on Independence Day.
