Enables network administrators to manage

network performance, find and solve networkproblems, and plan for network growth.

CIMP(Common ManagementInformation Protocol) It is an OSI protocol used with the Common

Management Information Services (CMIS); Supports information exchangebetweennetwork management applications andmanagement agents;

Supplies an interface that provides functionswhich maybe used to support both ISO and user-defined management protocols.

Advantages of CMIP over SNMP:

CMIP variables not only relay information, but alsocan be used to perform tasks. This is impossible

under SNMP; It is a safer system as it has built in security that

supports authorization, access control, and securitylogs;

Provides powerful capabilities that allowmanagement applications to accomplish more witha single request;

Providesbetter reporting of unusual networkconditions.
