INTRODUCTIONDefinitions of leadership:
1. “Leadership is the quality of behavior of individuals whereby
they guide people or their activities in organizing efforts.” –
Chester I. Bernard
2. “Leadership is the ability of a superior to induce subordinates to
work with confidence and spirit.” – Koontz and Donnell
3. “Leadership is the one who knows the way, goes the way and
shows the way.” – John Maxwell
The importance of leadership:
1. Effective direction – a leader lead their members to
achieve the vision.
2. Source of motivation – increase the productivity.
3. Confidence – by giving proper guidance and advice.
4. High morale – all members become more excited in
preparing their task.
5. Developed a team spirit – by encourages team spirit and
teamwork for the success.
CASE STUDYLeadership is a relationship between those who aspire to lead and
those who choose to follow.
Relationship between one-to-one or one-to-many.
In a simple word, leadership is someone who has a vision, can
communicate it and make it happen.
A leader plays an important role to lead a group or community in
order to achieve their goal.
According by Barry Posner and Jim Kouzes in “The Leaderships Challenge, 3rd Edition”, a leader must master this 5 practices of leadership :
1. Model the Way
2. Inspire a Share Vision
3. Challenge the Process
4. Enable Others to Act
5. Encourage the Heart
MODEL THE WAYLeaders establish how people should be
treated and goals pursued.
They need credibility, clarify his
personal values and set the example.
Be a good role model and open minded
towards members opinion.
Words and deeds must be consistent.
Committed towards achieving a vision.
INSPIRE A SHARE VISIONLeaders envision the future, see the
organization can become and get others to
see those possibilities.
Inspire commitment, not to command it.
Create something that has never been created
and change from old way to a better way.
Fire up enthusiasm to others.
Help other members to polished the
leadership character inside them.
CHALLENGE THE PROCESS Search out opportunities and step into the

Innovate, experiment and encourage

know what they need or how to explain to team members.
