1. Getting the quotes

1. Set up a Google Doc with the following headings:

Setting

Characters

Themes

Language features

Symbolism

Create subheadings where needed to be specific.

2. Give each group a link and an aspect and ask to select and record quotes that link.

2. Aspect research & share

1.Split class into 5 groups and assign each group an aspect of the text.

2.In their groups, learners research as much information from the internet as they can about their aspect.

3.After 30 minutes, learners post the best 3 links that they have found onto the Padlet page you have set up. Learners need to label each post with the aspect of the text it is linked to. Project onto the whiteboard while learners are sharing.

3. Teach back1. In groups, choose a scene/episode from the text to teach to the class.

Include:

A description of what is happening or you may act it out

The characters involved and what we learn about at least one character

The theme that is seen and an explanation of why it is important

A symbol and what it represents

2 quotes and an explanation of why you chose them

2. You may present your work on orally, visually or a combination of both.

4. Writing an essay

1. Discuss an exemplar and make notes on why it is an effective essay.

2. Choose an essay topic and write the introduction as a class on the board.

3. Have learners work in pairs to write the body paragraphs of the essay. Have different people in the group write different paragraphs. Then swap and give peer feedback.

4. Distribute the marking schedule and have pairs swap their essays and mark each other’s.
