International Course and Modern Natural Horn

Since the beginning of the great movement there were always musicians in Venezuela dedicated to teach the massive education of the Horn, one of them was the Big Master Delfino Nuñez, trainer and leader of a generation of great horn players of Venezuelan music scene.

But it was not until 1996, when the Beracasa Foundation brought celebrated Brass Teachers (Horns, Trumpets and Trombons) from France to Venezuela, which began the gestation of the evolution of the Horn as a solo instrument. Through this initiative emer-ged a new generation, where Professor Associate Professor Joel Arias, working together to the famous Maestro Andre Cazalet, kicked off the school transformation of Venezuela Horns, raising awareness of a new way of how to conceive and play the instrument.

Years later, when he founded the Department of Horns “Delfino Nuñez” at the Mo-zarteum Caracas School of Music, and with the invaluable help of its Director Ms. Elisa-beth Marichal, came an emerging generation, eager to learn different techniques of the instrument. To access this information they had to travel and invest high sums of money in their education. The need for that moment was created. With the support of the Fun-dación Cisneros, it was decided to invite renowned educationists and soloists, so that the maximum number of students could obtain benefit from this initiative, as before, these courses were limited to only a few who could afford their education in foreign countries.

Since that time, 2008, we have welcomed several well-known names to our country, such as Michael Höltzel, Bruno Schneider, Jean Pierre Cenedeze, Marie Luise Neunec-ker, Javier Bonet, Radek Baborák, among others, beginning the International Course for Natural and Modern Horn.

This 2013, we have the presence of one of the most famous soloists and pedagogues of today, Professor Radovan Vlatković. We will also be joined by the new generation of horn players and Venezuelans pedagogues: Professor Alex Gonçalves (Symphony Princi-pal Horn at Kaohsiung, Taiwan) and Professor Fernando Mora (Principal Horn at the Caracas Symphony Orchestra).

With the support of the Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, the Mozarteum Caracas School of Music, Banco Activo, the Youth Symphony Orchestra Francisco de Miranda, and others institutions, will be done the 4th Edition of the International Course for Modern and Natural Horn.

“Overcoming stage fright” by the Dinka Migic-Vlatković psychologist, who will talk about the symptoms and its cau-ses, methods and exercises to overcome it and how to prepare for a concert or presentation.

“The Schmid Horns and Goodness” by Engelbert Schmid, who will talk about making the horn, its composition, ope-ration, etc.

Exhibitors:

Engelbert Schmid: was for ten years horn soloist with the Radio Orchestra in Munich, also was a member of the Radio Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. In 1980 introduce to the market their horns for the first time. In 1990 he founded his own studio, where - as master of crafts - has taught all their existing artisans.

Stomvi: Company dedicated to the manufacture and sale of wind-metal musical instruments with Stomvi generic brand. At its manufacturing facility located in the city of Xirivella, Valencia (Spain) brings together major figures daily with mu-sic sharing and exchanging views as part of the great project Stomvi.

Radovan VlatkoviCroatia - Modern Horn

One of the leading instrumentalists of his generation, Radovan Vlatković has travelled the globe performing extensively as a soloist and popularising the horn as recording artist and teacher.

Born in Zagreb in 1962 he completed his studies with Professor Prerad Detiček at the Zagreb Academy of Music and Professor Mi-chael Höltzel at the Music Academy in Det-mold, Germany. Radovan Vlatković is the recipient of many first prizes in national and international competitions, including the Pre-mio Ancona in 1979 and the ARD Competi-tion in Munich in 1983. This led to numerous invitations to music festivals throughout Eu-rope including Salzburg, Vienna, Edinburgh and Dubrovnik to name but a few, the Ame-ricas, Australia, Israel, Korea as well as regular appearances in Japan.

From 1982 until 1990 he served as Principal Horn with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin (now Deutsches Symphonie Orchester) under Maestros Riccardo Chailly and Vladi-mir Ashkenazy. From 1992 to 1998 he held the post of Horn Professor at the Stuttgart Musi-khochschule. 1998 he became Horn Professor at the renowned Mozarteum in Salzburg. Sin-ce 2000 he holds the Horn Chair “Canon” at the “Queen Sofia” School in Madrid.

From 2000 – 2003 he has been Artistic Director of the September Chamber Music

Festival in Maribor, Slovenia. He regularly performs with András Schiff, Heinz Holliger, Elmar Schmid and Klaus Thunemann. Very much in demand as chamber musician he has performed at Gidon Kremer’s Lockenhaus, Svyatoslav Richter’s December Evenings in Moscow, Oleg Kagan and Natalia Gutman’s Kreuth, Rudolf Serkin’s Marlboro, András Schiff’s Mondsee, Vicenza and Ittingen Festi-vals as well as Kuhmo, Prussia Cove and Ca-sals Festival in Prades.

Radovan Vlatković has participated in first performances of works by Elliott Carter, So-fia Gubaidulina, Heinz Holliger and several Croatian composers who have written con-certos for him. In May 2008 he premiered the Horn Concerto written for him by Krzysztof Penderecki together with the Bremen Philhar-monic and the composer conducting. There were further performances in Japan, Taiwan as well as in Poland.

Radovan Vlatković has received the Ger-man Critics Award for several of his discs. His numerous recordings include Mozart and Strauss Concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra and Jeffrey Tate, works by Saint-Saens with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and Jean-Jacques Kantorow, the Britten Sere-nade for tenor, horn and strings with Neil Jen-kins and the Oriol Ensemble in Berlin.

Alex GonçalvesVenezuela – Portugal - Natural and Modern Horns

Was born in 1988 in Caracas (Venezue-la). His first horn lesson was at the age of 12 years at the music school FESNOJIV (Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra). In 2002 he began his studies at Simon Bolivar Con-servatory in Caracas with Professor Javier Aragon. 2003 transferred to the Mozarteum Venezuela in the Horn class of Professor Joel Arias. In 2005 he received the Patty and Gustavo Cisneros Scholarship, which was awarded in order to attend the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, USA where he wor-ked with musician and conductors such as Jerome Ashby, Eli Epstein, David Zinman, Sir Neville Marriner and Michael Stern. At the age of 16 years, he won the 3rd/1st horn position at the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Symphony Orchestra in Caracas. At 18, he won the Co-Principal Horn position at the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Vene-zuela. In year 2007, participated as guest Principal horn at the Baroque Camerata in Caracas in a CD Recording of Latin Ame-rican music of the classic period. Also in year 2007 earned a scholarship to attend the Young Artists Festival Bayreuth in Bayreuth, Germany. From year 2007 until year 2009 was student in the horn class of Professor Michael Hoeltzel at the Rostock University and since year 2009 is student in the class of Professor Bodo Werner at the same ins-titution.

In winter year 2008 he was principal horn

of the Germany National Youth Symphony Orchestra. In summer of 2008 he perfor-med at NDR (North German Radio) Stars Live with Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for 4 Wind instruments and orchestra.

He would also played this piece in Octo-ber 2009, April 2010 and December 2010 at Concerts with the Vorpommern Theater Orchestra, Neubrandenburg Philharmonie and the Hamburger Camerata Chamber Orchestra. Since February 2009, he plays as principal horn with the Hamburger Came-rata Chamber Orchestra. In April 2009 he was one of the soloists of the concert pie-ce for four horns and orchestra by Robert Schumann. In August 2010 was invited to attend the ARD Music Competition in Mu-nich, Germany. In November 2010 soloist with the concert piece for 4 horns and or-chestra by Huebler in concert with the Vor-pommern Theater Orchestra.

From March to November in 2011 he hold the Principal Horn position at the Vor-pommern Theater in Stralsund, Germany. From November 2011 to the present he is the principal horn in the Kaohsiung City Simphony Orchestra (Taiwan).

In summer 2011 he cooperated in chamber music projects with musicians such as Sergio Azzolini (Bassoon), Ingo Goritzki (Oboe) and since February 2012 he represents the German Horn maker “Cornford Horns”.

Fermando MoraVenezuela – Modern Horn

Venezuelan French Horn performer experience symphonic and cham-ber music. He is a member of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Caracas since 1985 and principal horn of the same since 2003.

Graduated in 2002 from the National Experimental University of the Arts in the city of Caracas, UNEARTE, where he studied with Maestro Paul Franklin Miller. In Caracas study also with Maestro Alejandro Nuñez and took classes with Master André Cazalet. In the city of Dus-seldorf in Germany took classes with Master Carlos Crespo.

He is Professor of the Chair of Corno del Conservatorio “Simon Bo-livar” in Caracas, main conservatory “Sistema” in Venezuela and the UNEARTE Teaching in the Chairs of Horn and Chamber Music.

Joel AriasVenezuela – Natural and Modern Horns

Joel Arias was born in Venezuela, and be-gan his early musical training at the age of eight. He studied Keyboard from age 9 and his studies on Horn at the “Sistema de Or-questas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela” at the age of ten.

During two consecutive periods he was a recipient of the DAAD Stipendium, scholar-ship granted by the German Government to complete his post-graduate studies, perfec-ting his skills as a soloist with the Valve Horn and the Baroque and Natural Horn with Mi-chael Höltzel at the celebrated Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Germany.

In 1997, he has named associate professor of the Itinerant Conservatory from the Bera-casa Foundation together with the acclaimed French Horn player André Cazalet.

He played as Principal-Horn with the most important Venezuelan Orchestras, Sinfónica de Maracaibo, Filarmónica Nacional, Sinfó-nica de Venezuela. He has participated also in numerous national and International tours of America and Europe with different Cham-bers groups and Orchestras. In Germany and others Countries in Europe he performed with the “Detmolder Hornisten”, “Gran Par-tita Detmold”, “Orkester des Landestheater Detmold”, “Detmolder Kammerorkester”,

“Das Orkester des XVIII Jahreshundert” and “The Czech Chamber Orchestra”.

Mr. Arias is invited to participate in many of the most important Horns Festivals. Appeared regularly in Workshops in Vene-zuela and others internationals Horn Fes-tivals in Europe (Prague, Germany, Spain, etc.) and Sud-America (Argentine, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, etc). Special Guest to take part like a Soloist in the renamed Symposium of the International Horn Society: 2004 in Valencia. Spain, 2007 in Chaux de Fond. Switzerland, and 2011 in San Francisco. USA .

As a soloist, he performs frequently with the Valve Horn and with others instruments of the Baroque and Classical period. At the same time he continues to teach at the “Mo-zarteum Caracas” in Venezuela, looking to create a new concept and perception of his instrument by projecting his students within and outside of Venezuela.

Presently, he is Principal-Horn of the Or-questa “Sinfónica de Venezuela” and Current President of the “Delfino Núñez” Founda-tion for the Iberoamerican Horn School. Mr. Arias can teach in German, English, Italian and Spanish.

Dinka Migic-VlatkoviPsychologist - Mental Trainer and Coach

Migic-Vlatković Dinka was born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1959. Actually she lives in Austria. He played the violin in the Youth Orchestra and graduated from the School of Music in Zagreb Blagoje Bersa. After studying psychology, deepened their knowledge in the Paracelsus School in Germany, where he trained as a systemic consultant and family therapist. Besides his work in journalism and art management, increasingly turned to lecture and occupation of counselor. He specialized as a “coach and mental coach” for musicians and now teaches worldwide, including the USA, Sweden, Austria and Croatia.

Engelbert Schmid

Engelbert Schmid was for ten years horn soloist with the Radio Orchestra in Munich, also was a member of the Radio Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. In 1980 introduce to the market their horns for the first time. In 1990 he founded his own studio, where - as master of crafts - has taught all their existing artisans.
