Instructions:1. Using tracing paper, trace the pumpkin face or bat

patterns (download below), or make your own design. Transfer the pattern of your choice to a clean tin can; go over the transferred pattern with a permanent marker. Fill the tin can with water; place it in the freezer. When the water in the can is frozen, remove the can from the freezer.

2. Use a hammer and nail to puncture the design in the can. Punch two holes in the rim of the can on opposite sides, centering the design between the two holes. Let the ice melt; allow the can to dry completely.

3. Cut a 16-inch length of wire. Insert one end of the wire into a hole in the rim; twist the end of the wire around the wire length. Insert the other wire end through the other hole in the rim, securing the wire in the same manner.

4. Spray paint the pumpkin can orange and the bat can black. Let the paint dry. Place a tea-light candle inside the can and hang securely from a branch or garden hook.

• Tracing paper• Permanent marker• Clean empty tin cans• Hammer and large nail• Spray paint: orange and black• Wire• Tea-light candles

Amateur ghost-busters, listen up! If you are planning a holiday in the near future and are looking to add some exciting ghost hunting to your itinerary, this article is for you. Below are five of the most haunted places in the world, all of which are sure to give you the thrills and chills that you are looking for.

Eastern State Penitentiary, Pennsylvania, USALet's face it - very few things are scarier than an abandoned prison chockfull of ghostly bad guys! Known for being one of the first prisons to introduce solitary confinement, you can understand why Eastern State Penitentiary has been a hot spot for paranormal enthusiasts all over the globe. Since being abandoned in the early 1970s, people have reported strange occurrences like shadowy figures approaching them, and eerie laughing come from cellblock 12, in particular. Terrifying stuff!

Highgate Cemetery, London, UKAlthough a haunted cemetery is rather predictable, there is a reason why Highgate Cemetery has such a well-known reputation. Housing over 170 000 deceased people, the massive cemetery certainly has the numbers on its side. However, while one may think that it would be haunted by restless spirits, the cemetery is actually said to be home to a mysterious vampire first 'spotted' in the 1970s. Just to be safe, if you plan on booking flights to London from Johannesburg and visiting the Highgate Cemetery, we definitely recommend wearing a scarf or a turtle-neck jersey!

The Beechworth Lunatic Asylum, Victoria, AustraliaYou know what's more terrifying than a lunatic? A dead lunatic haunting an abandoned insane asylum, that's what! Since it first opened its doors in 1867, the asylum saw the death of over 9 000 people. It was closed in 1995, but the stories of ghostly hauntings have only become more prevalent since then. Sound interesting? Then be sure to book airline tickets to Australia and take a creepy night-time tour with other paranormal junkies. Don't forget your camera!

Babenhausen Barracks, Hesse, GermanySince the 1940s, people have reported hair-raising sightings of ghostly World War II soldiers in uniform haunting the Babenhausen Barracks. Along with the spirits, people have also reported seeing lights turning on and off by themselves, hearing loud footsteps and even hearing German commands being shouted in the dead of night. Now a museum, Babenhausen Barracks is a must-see for all amateur ghost hunters.

Dragsholm Slot, DenmarkBuilt in 1215, Dragsholm Castle is thought to be home to three ghosts - a grey lady, a white lady and a former prisoner known as James Hepburn, the 4th Earl of Bothwell. Definitely worth checking out if you ever find yourself in the area.

So what are you waiting for? It is time to book those flight tickets and embrace the mystery and the power of the paranormal!

Halloween is nearing, and if you still haven't thought of costumes for the upcoming scare-fest, you might be wracking your brains for ideas that can't be beat. Unfortunately, many of us are really busy. As much as we

would like to focus on Halloween costume hunting, there's such a thing as real life, and we all have to attend to work, chores, and errands. So when your kids come knocking at your bedroom door begging to

get a Halloween costume on the morning of October 31st, you know you're in for it.

Halloween Costumes7 Last Minute DIY

Written by Shauna Milton, article courtesy of ezinearticles.com.

Fortunately, you don't have to worry too much, as there are literally hundreds of Halloween costume ideas that you can DIY for yourself or your kids on a short notice. What's great is that you don't even have to break the bank doing it. Here are a few ideas.

1 - The AthleteSurely you have someone in your family who has played ball. You don't have to be the star quarterback or the point-guard. You just have to look the part. If your kids are into sports, then why not suggest that they go out trick or treating as a team-complete in their athletic uniforms. This also goes for cheerleading attires.

2 - The GhostYou've seen it in the cartoons, so why not try it in real life. Get an old white sheet and cut out eye holes. You're a ghost! The getup is not complete without moans and groans, so practice your moaning and groaning before midnight. You can add chains for that tormented soul effect.

3 - NinjaGet a ski mask and wear an all-black attire. If you have a toy sword (or maybe even a decorative sword), then wear it on your belt. Now what makes you a ninja is not only your attire. Try to move stealthily around all day. Move against walls and don't get caught in plain sight of people. When you cross the lawn, don't walk. Tumble!

4 - Mad ScientistWear an old white lab coat and eyeglasses. For effect, mess up your hair and set it with mousse or gel. Bring test tubes and beakers wherever you go. Think of Dr. Emmet Brown from Back to the Future. Now that's a crazy costume idea.

5 - The Backwards PersonWear your clothes all backwards. Wear your shirt and pants backwards, complete with belt and necktie. You can even wear sunglasses or eyeglasses at the back of your head for effect.

6 - The CorpseWear your best formal attire. Make it so formal it would seem you've come straight out of the coffin. Now apply very pale makeup and wear very dark lipstick. Apply thick, black eye shadow. To complete the effect, act the part. Walk slowly-as if you haven't used your joints for decades.

If you haven't got the time, don't sweat it. You can rummage around your closet and maybe you'll find something that will look scary or novel enough to be your Halloween costume. If you can find an outfit from the 80's, now that's something to scream about:

7 - The 80's Guy or GalSure, the 80's are making a comeback. But the 2010's 80's are different from the real thing. Maybe you still have some leftovers from the past few decades sitting at the bottom of your closet. Wear skinny jeans and a white T-shirt with rolled-up sleeves. Wear high-cut sneakers. Get yourself a thick headband and try to wear your hair as if you had a mullet. If you have long hair, you can curl it like crazy. Bring along a big boombox on your shoulder to complete the effect. Now, that's scary!

In The Kitchen

Meringue BonesInstructions:1. With a hand mixer or in a stand mixer, beat the egg

whites with the cream of tartar and pinch of salt until fluffy. Gradually add the sugar and continue to beat until shiny. Stir in the vanilla.

2. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a large round tip (we used Wilton tip 10) with the meringue. Pipe 3-inch long bone shapes on top of a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees F for an hour.

3. Turn off the oven and leave the meringues to dry for another hour. Remove from the oven and carefully peel off the meringues from the parchment paper. Store in an airtight container until ready to serve on a platter.

Ingredients:• • 3 egg whites• ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar• pinch of salt• 2/3 cup sugar (granulated

white)• ½ teaspoon vanilla

Fall FoodsKeeping ourselves and our families well and healthy all year long is important, and the foods that we put into our bodies can either support this goal or work against it. With the fall season near at hand, there are a variety of exciting super foods that will be available from the garden, as well as local markets and grocers. Here are some of our favorites to add to your shopping list and menu!

Apples: Whether you fancy red or green, crisp, sweet or tart, apples are as delicious as they are beneficial. From the antioxidants that they provide to the punch of fiber, be sure to add them to your fall menu as much as possible. Apples make great snacks for the kids, are amazing as toppings for salads or pastas, or can be cooked alongside most meats to add sweetness! For a warm breakfast idea, consider baking apples with a little cinnamon sprinkle.

Cauliflower: When it comes to side dishes, cauliflower is often given way too little attention! This fall, take time to explore it raw in salads, steamed with seasoning or sauces, sautéed in a stir fry dish, or even pureed into a creamy "mashed potato" substitute! No matter how you enjoy eating it, you will be adding vitamin C to your meal, as well as phytonutrients that work to lower cholesterol!

Squash:Don’t let your love of squash die with the summer months! Transition to cool weather varieties! Fall and winter squashes (including pumpkins!) are delicious when baked or used as a soup base and pair wonderfully with flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger. Add to this that squash provides essential omega-3 fatty acids and fiber as well as vitamins A & B and you may find your whole family falling in love with this thick skin veggie!

Sweet Potato:This year, don't wait until Thanksgiving to try this orange delight! Sweet potatoes are a great source of iron and vitamin A and have also been shown to help the body with inflammation. Eat it baked, fried, mashed, or even in a classic casserole. Feeling really adventurous? Try sweet potato pancakes for a yummy start to the day!

Pomegranates: Many may be familiar with this super fruit as a juice, but it can also be utilized in its seed form as well! Pomegranates contain folate, vitamin C, and antioxidants and make a tasty burst of flavor when added as a salad topping. Kids also love the little morsels as snacks or as a side dish with meals.

Grow Your Own Record Breaker

Growing Giant Pumpkins

Pumpkin growers all want to grow a giant pumpkin, at least once. Whether you're looking to break the current world

record pumpkin weight of 1,689 pounds, or just see how big of a jack-o-lantern you can make this Halloween, growing a giant

pumpkin is definitely an exciting obsession!

First, you have to purchase some Atlantic Giant Pumpkin seeds. This pumpkin is known to grow the biggest of any variety. Plant them in early spring when the chance of frost has past. Build up a mound about three feet across and a foot high. Plant your seed in the center. Pumpkins need a lot of sun and a lot of water. This is especially true of giant pumpkins. Dig out a three or four inch deep trench around the bottom of the mound to hold extra water where the roots can reach it.

When your pumpkin vines start to travel, build the mound out even further. You may want to put a series of concentric ring trenches for water so that all of the root systems get plenty of water. As vines travel, bury them in the soil about every foot. This will encourage them to take root from the vines and suck up more water and more nutrients than they ever could from one central root system. This is one of the giant pumpkin grower's big secrets. You can wrap a little bit of newspaper around the vine, just where it enters and just where it exits the dirt to keep pests like ants from crawling up. Don't wrap it too tight. When your pumpkin starts getting big, you can slide a piece of cardboard underneath it to keep pests from entering it.

Measure your pumpkin about once a week to see if it is still growing. When it is done, it will be at full color and hardened. Leave the pumpkin on the vine as long as possible. Many pumpkins will be ready for harvest around August or September. Use a sharp knife to cut the stem when it's ready. So, what if you want to store your pumpkin until a contest date, Halloween or Thanksgiving?

Take these measures to ensure that your giant pumpkin doesn't rot. First, wash it with one gallon of water mixed with a cup of chlorine. Many people simply wash their pumpkins in the pool. This will kill off bacteria that may be trying to make its way into your pumpkin. Let it dry completely before storing it. Then, place it on a board or cardboard, not concrete, and store in a cool, dry, dark place, like under your house, in a closet or in the garage. You really want to keep it around seventy degrees or less without freezing.

Remember to water, water, water. Serious giant pumpkin growers keep their pumpkins watered with a programmable automatic hose reel. This way, the pumpkin gets water, even if they are not at home, and the hose puts itself away when it's done. With enough water, proper storage, vine burying and proper care, you could grow the pumpkin of your dreams! Good luck beating that record!

Halloween Fitness

Halloween is a popular fun time of the year with some great seasonal activities like pumpkin picking, hay rides and trick-or-treating. It is also the time when many tempting treats increasingly become the main attraction.

Both are good reasons that call for an increase in exercises. Here are some Halloween-themed workouts that are a combination of exercise pairs without any rest in between.

The Workout

What to do: Perform the following pair of fitness themes exercises together without making any rest in between. Use a stopwatch and execute each exercise for 45 seconds. After performing each pair in four sets, rest for a minute to recover and move to your next pair.

The Exercises

Mummy Sit-upsLie down on your back and inhale as the hands are kept on thighs and the legs straight. Then slowly sit up while moving the fingers towards the knees, exhaling all the while. Inhale and sit up straight with shoulders back. Return to the starting position slowly as you exhale.

Frankenstein WalkWhile standing straight, lift the right foot into a "Frankenstein" kick straight up and then spring back as you step down. The knee should always be kept over the ankle, as your arms are kept away from the body, and the shoulders are squared off with the front leg. Keep lowering your body till the front thigh comes to a parallel with the floor or at least to a comfortable position; keep moving your hips forward. The shoulder should be kept back in a tall posture. Activate both the thigh muscles and glutes to come back to the starting position as you push off the front leg. For increased intensity, one can add hand weights that should be held out in front of the body.

Finally rest yourself for one minute before beginning a new superset.

Ghost FliersKeep your arms and legs outstretched as you lie on your stomach on a mat. Next reach your arms overhead as you point your toes. Align your head with the spine and relax your neck. Exhale as the abdominal is engaged getting stability of spine and slowly take your legs away from the torso till they leave the ground; next bring the arms off the ground. Bring the right arm to the right knee as the head follows while the legs are kept straight. Come back to the starting position. See that the head does not drop to the floor. Exhale slowly and lower your legs and arms and then take the left arm to the left knee.

Spider Plank Push-UpsTake a face down plank position keeping the hands shoulder-width apart with the feet remaining together. Come into a push-up as the right knee is drawn towards the right elbow. As the body is kept flat, push up back into the prone upright position. Follow it up on the left side. Exhale while pushing up and inhale while muscle-lengthening phase.

Finally rest for a minute.
