CFF NEWS REGISTRATION FOR CHILDREN’S FAITH FORMATION

The time has arrived to start registration for Children’s Faith Formation (Grades K-9). Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will be offering in person classes only for students that will be preparing for a Sacrament (Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation) For students in other grades we will be offering an online program for parents to catechize with your child/children. We will hopefully try and meet at least once a month with students in non-sacrament prep grades. The parents will be required to attend this class with their child. You can register online through our website under the Children’s Faith Formation tab or Confirmation Prep tab or in person at Suzanne or Taylor’s office. If this is your first time registering for classes, we will need a copy of the child’s birth and baptism certificate for our records. Contact Suzanne McDonough at [email protected] for students in grades K-7. Contact Taylor Monahan at [email protected] for students in grades 8 & 9 or who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The first day of in-person classes will be on Sunday, September 13, for grades 2 and 8 ONLY.

HOLY WATER – If you would like to have holy water, please bring a container with water in it from home and it can be blessed after the Masses (daily and weekend) by a priest or a deacon.

ADORATION

CAN YOU SPEND AN HOUR WITH OUR LORD?

ADORACIÓN ¿PUEDES PASAR UNA HORA CON

NUESTRO SEÑOR?

ESTAS HORAS TODAVÍA DEBEN SER CUBIERTAS. THESE HOURS STILL NEED TO BE COVERED.

Wednesday 3:00AM-4:00AM Thursday 3:00PM-4:00PM Friday 1:00AM-2:00AM 2:00PM-3:00PM Saturday 1:00PM-2:00PM 3:00PM-4:00PM 4:00PM-5:00PM 11:00PM-12:00AM Sunday 10:00AM-11:00AM 6:00PM-7:00PM Do you believe in the power of PRAYER? Are you aware that, besides the Masses, St. James offers a beautiful and quiet way for all of us to pray in unity for our families, our parish, our community, and for America? It is called perpetual adoration. Each and everyone of the adorers pray individually and in unity 24/7 every week. This STRONG PRAYER has already created a veil of protection around the parishioners of St. James during this time of sickness. Do you want to help protect St. James? All you must do is join us for one hour per week in our chapel. If you check the bulletin or electronic message boards, you will find a listing of the hours where there is no one committed at this time. Please go to YOUR church’s website at https://stjamesconway.org/ and check under Worship for adoration and then sign in to commit for an hour each week. We also have many hours where there is only one adorer. Many of our Hispanic brothers and sisters cover 2-3 hours a week in an attempt to cover all of the hour and this is along with having kids to take care of and having full time jobs, many working in this intense heat. Perhaps we can step away from our busy, busy life of retirement and jump into the breach to build the wall against the devil. I really challenge the men to stand and deliver. Lanny B. at 843-246-2522 or [email protected].

SAFE ENVIRONMENT Did you know that the Diocese of Charleston has had a policy on how to address allegations of sexual misconduct against children by Church personnel since 1994? The policy was updated in 2003 to comply with the USCCB’s original Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The policy was revised again in 2012. This policy, called the Policy Concerning Allegations of Sexual Misconduct or Abuse of a Minor by Church Personnel and the Code of Conduct for Church Personnel is used in all diocesan parishes and schools. Church Personnel, in this context, refers to all volunteers with regular access with minors, as well as all Catholic clergy, religious sisters and brothers, seminarians, and lay employees. All of the above individuals must read and sign an acknowledgement of receipt of the Policy and agree to abide by it. In addition, all must sign and agree to abide by the Code of Conduct. These documents, and more pertaining to the diocesan and parish efforts to maintain a safe environment for children, are available in the Youth Ministry Office at St. James, as well as online at the diocesan website: charlestondiocese.org. For more questions about safe environment, contact our Safe Environment Coordinator, Taylor Monahan at 843-347-5168, ext. 235.

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK When a merchant finally finds a priceless, perfect pearl, he sells all he has and buys it. He does this because that pearl matters to him. It has significance and brings a depth of joy like none other. What matters and is of importance to you? When what matters to us has something to do with the kingdom of God, God is delighted. His exuberant happiness is hard to contain because He knows that we are happy stumbling upon this beautiful wisdom. Ask God to help you discover this pearl of great price. There are many things competing for our attention every day. But not all of these things are important. We focus too much energy on the unimportant, superficial stuff and neglect paying attention to the things that really make a difference and have the greatest impact. Things all too easily become more significant than people, and our agendas become more essential than God’s. We do not have to empty our bank accounts and totally detach from everything we have in order to serve God. But, we are asked to prioritize our lives and make what matters to God what matters most to us. In doing so, when we rise each day, we will be able to see what really needs our attention and embrace it with great joy!
