STATE TIMES NEWSPOUNI: Apni Mandibuilding constructed andcompleted in village Puriyaof Block Pouni during2008, at a cost of over Rs18 lakh, is lying vacant andunutilised for the last overa decade thus putting theexchequer to a great loss onone hand and making theusers to suffer unnecessari-ly for such a long period.
The progressive farmersof the block Pouni stronglycriticised that they weremade to suffer recurringloss due to non-sale of theiragricultural and horticul-ture products in theabsence of a proper outletand on the other hand theApni Mandi building pro-vided by the Government inthe block remained vacantfor over a decade due to thereasons best known to theconstructing agency.Sources revealed that thebuilding in question wasconstructed byHorticulture Planning andMarketing wing and wasnot handed over to the con-cerned department after
formal inauguration. Thelack of care and mainte-nance of this vacant build-ing for such a long periodhas caused damage whichrequired further investmenton its repair.
The Mandi which shouldhave been put into useimmediately on its comple-tion for the purpose it wasconstructed to ensure thefair use of the Governmentmoney but on the contraryit was kept vacant andunused. They said that theGovernment money to thetune of Rs 18 lakh remainedblocked for such a long peri-od causing great loss to theexchequer.
The progressive farmersof Pouni Block includingBhajan Singh, HarjeetSingh, Gurdev Singh andothers have appealed to theDistrict DevelopmentCommissioner (DDC) Reasito look into the case andissue suitable instructionsto the concerned depart-ments to put this buildinginto use so that the Mandi ismade functional for the ben-efit of progressive farmers.

STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: In it's effort to increase thegreen cover and provide a natural habitat tothe inmates of the rare black cedar forest ofBhadarwah valley in Chenab region of Jammuand Kashmir, Forest department claimed tohave planted 5 lakh saplings during the ongo-ing plantation season with special impetus oninstitutional plantation.
The department, which started an ambitiousand mega drive in December last year with anaim to plant as many as 5 lakh saplings of var-ious species till March this year in 6 ForestDivisions of Chenab Circle by involving differ-ent sections of society and also by initiatinginstitutional plantation in a big way for thefirst time, claimed to have achieved their goalwell before the deadline - which is 31st March.
As part of the ongoing programme to pro-mote institutional plantation, BhadarwahForest Division carried out a plantation driveby involving students and faculty of theCampus in presence of Conservator ForestChenab Circle, T.B Singh.
DFO Bhadarwah, Khalid Amin Mehtaemphasised the need of plantation, keeping inview the climate change scenario and increas-ing pollution levels in urban areas. Heimpressed upon school children that everysapling planted should be taken care of for bet-ter survival rate.
"Beside planting large number of Deodarsaplings, Kail and Chinar trees at the vitallocations and fruit trees were planted in the
higher reaches of Forest, so that the wild ani-mals should not stray in the habitats in searchof food, which will eventually help to minimisethe Man-Animal conflict," DFO added.
On the occasion, RenownedEnvironmentalist and Retired CCF DrRajeshver Singh Jasrotia, CF T.B.Singh,DFO Khalid Amin Mehta, and Dr NeerajSharma addressed the students at Lal DedAuditorium.

The main func-tion was held at AIER SchoolDoda under the chairman-ship of Dy CMO Doda DrRakesh Bhagat.
Speaking on the occasion,Dy CMO Doda Dr Bhagatsaid that deworming is doneto cure the infected childrenand also put an end to multi-ple other causes likeanaemia, mental impair-ment, malnourishment etcwhich stimulates worm infec-
tions, adding that these con-ditions are serious threat tothe kids and can be ruinousfor the education and healthof the kids.

The programme was inau-gurated by I/C, Sr.Scientist-cum-Head of KVK, Reasi,Dr.Banarsi Lal. In the inau-gural session he welcomedthe participants and gave adetailed view on protectionof plant varieties and farm-ers right act,2001.
Dr.Sanjay Kaushal, scien-tist said the farmers that the
crop varieties to be regis-tered should have some dis-tinctive characters. He moti-vated the farmers for theregistration of their tradi-tional varieties and said thatthe farmers who conservetheir local varieties throughselection and preservationshall be entitled for therecognition and awards andare eligible for the registra-tion under PPV&FRAAct,2001.
Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, sci-entist spoke on the status ofplant varieties and their reg-istration by the farmers. Hesaid that in order to acceler-ate agricultural develop-ment, it is necessary to pro-tect the farmers' rights.
Dr.Arvinder Kumarstressed on the documenta-tion of the local varietiespractised by the farmers. He
also suggested the farmersthat they should take techni-cal guidelines from KVKexperts. In this programmeZarina Firoz, Sarpanch,Sham Lal, Ex-Sarpanch,Gopal Singh, Naib Sarpanchand many Panchs of thearea were also present.

As per the details, a team of Police station Hiranagar arrest-ed absconder namely Parvinder Singh, son of Shamsher SinghSingh, resident of Ward no 4 Kathua. The accused wasdeclared absconder by JMIC Hiranagar in case vide FIR No101/2011 under Section 420/406 RPC of Police StationHiranagar.
