HR CornerWellLiving Progam Participation DeadlineThe deadline to complete the wellness screenings is Dec. 31. This applies to employees and/or spouses who were covered with a Fairfield Medical Center sponsored health plan in 2016. If you and/or your spouse achieve the goals, the incentive will begin in April of 2017. The WellLiving Program is practicing timely preventative care through regular wellness exams and recommended screenings. WellLiving recommends five screening tests based on age and gender. You will complete these screenings with your primary care physician. Visit MedBen’s website at www.medben.com and click on “MedBen Access” to view your WellLiving dashboard. A flyer is also available in Human Resources to assist with logging onto the website. This dashboard will show the tests you have achieved credit for and the dates for the next expected time to achieve the screening tests. If you have any questions about the program, contact Human Resources or MedBen’s Customer Service at 1-800-686-8425.

Homemade Ice Cream

At my house, one of our favorite ways to celebrate the Fourth of July is with homemade ice cream.

Ever since I was a kid, homemade ice cream has amazed me. It’s so simple, but soooo good. How can this be? Cream, sugar, vanilla and a little elbow grease. That’s it. And BTW, no one has ever been able to explain to me (including my all-knowing Dad) how melting ice could be colder than ice. How can this be? Amazing.

Sure, it takes some work, but we take turns at it. It takes the whole family. It’s a good chance get together. And yes, we have to get the right stuff, but we have good local partners for that. How do we know when it is done just right? Well that’s a matter of expert knowledge and tradition (Dad always knew. Now I know).

You can take my word for it; there are some great regional ice cream brands out there. None are as amazing as homemade.

Homemade healthcare care is also soooo good. Teamwork. Relationships. Tradition. Expert knowledge. What you do here is amazing!

Beginning July 1, the expectation is the patient’s ACCOUNT NUMBER will be utilized in the Alaris IV pumps under “Patient ID field.” We are not consistent with the patient ID field, staff utilize department number, patient account number (new employees) and leave blank. In order to have complete traceability of patients stay we must change our input information. Also, the pumps have the ability to be interoperable with our new Cerner System and entering patient ID is paramount for success. For questions or concerns regarding this change, please contact Marilyn Hargett at ext. 8449 or email [email protected]

Birthdays

As many of you may know, the home of FMC employees, Hilary and Zach Skeens, caught fire last week and it was a complete loss. Many employees have expressed interest in helping the family. We are working to coordinate this so that we do not overwhelm the family during this very challenging time. Here is how you can help:• Abby Mulholland in HR will serve as

the point of contact for all donations collected.

• If your department wants to take up a collection, please establish one point person within your area to coordinate and work directly with Abby.

• Please do not contact the Skeens

directly. HR will work directly with them and their respective managers. Again, this is a very overwhelming for Hilary and Zach and we want to be respectful to them during this time.

• We ask that only the following items are donated at this time: PTO, gift cards and cash.

• The FMC Foundation will hold a Garage Sale on July 15. All the funds raised at this event will go to the Skeens family.

Please let staff know that the Skeens are grateful for the support of their FMC family.

The Learning and Development Department introduced an exciting program back in 2010 called School at Work, a workforce development system that brings education directly to the work site. School at Work (SAW) targets entry-level workers, such as housekeepers, nursing assistants, and clerical staff who are hard working and committed to a future in healthcare. SAW benefits loyal, hard working, support-level healthcare employees by improving their performance in current positions, preparing them for job advancements within their facility, and revitalizing their dreams of continued education. FMC has experienced great success offering SAW with students earning scholarships and starting back to college as early as summer session after graduating from the program. SAW is an accelerated learning

program that provides healthcare-specific education while developing a customized Career and Learning Plan (CLP). The CLP allows students to learn about advancement opportunities at the hospital, research career steps and financial aid options, and determine what their next steps are.
