Looking Back on Three Years of History Seoul International Cafe Show’s History in 2009-2011 e Seoul International Cafe Show is now 10-years-old. From the start, the road to developing the coffee industry in Korea was difficult, but we worked in unison with many coffee lovers in Korea and globally to realize the Seoul International Cafe Show of today. In commemoration of its 10th anniversary in 2011, we would like to look back on the pleasures and pains of the Seoul International Cafe Show of growing with the Korean coffee industry. In particular, let us look back on the history of the Seoul International Cafe Show during the three years between 2009 and 2011 when the Korean coffee industry rapidly expanded and examine the development of the Korean coffee industry and culture. 1.Growth of scale e growth of the exhibition may be directly confirmed by its growing scale. e Seoul International Cafe Show grew together with the Korean coffee industry’s development. In 2009, we used Hall C of COEX, but in 2010, commensurate to our growth, we used Hall A and Hall B’s S/S (swing space of the old Pacific Ocean Hall and Indian Ocean Hall) of COEX. In 2011, we have rapidly grown and developed amazingly to use both Hall A and Hall C. Seoul International Cafe Show’s History in 2009-2011

The Seoul International Cafe Show is now 10-years-old. From the start, the road to developing the coffee industry in Korea was difficult, but we worked in unison with many coffee lovers in Korea and globally to realize the Seoul International Cafe Show of today. In commemoration of its 10th anniversary in 2011, we would like to look back on the pleasures and pains of the Seoul International Cafe Show of growing with the Korean coffee industry. In particular, let us look back on the history of the Seoul International Cafe Show during the three years between 2009 and 2011 when the Korean coffee industry rapidly expanded and examine the development of the Korean coffee industry and culture.

1.Growth of scaleThe growth of the exhibition may be directly confirmed by its growing scale. The Seoul International Cafe Show grew together with the Korean coffee industry’s development. In 2009, we used Hall C of COEX, but in 2010, commensurate to our growth, we used Hall A and Hall B’s S/S (swing space of the old Pacific Ocean Hall and Indian Ocean Hall) of COEX. In 2011, we have rapidly grown and developed amazingly to use both Hall A and Hall C.

2.Development of exhibition themesThe theme of the Eighth Seoul International Cafe Show in 2009 was “For Your Tasty Life!” and the motto was to improve the quality of life with coffee and fast food related to coffee. In 2010, the exhibition was held under theme of “Taste the World!” with coffee and F&B industry experts worldwide starting to visit the Seoul International Cafe Show. In 2011, the theme was “A Feast of Flavor!” boasting of a large scale exhibition specializing in coffee with expert content. At the 2012 show to be held from 22 (Thurs.) - 25 (Sun.) November 2012, it is also expected to rise as a more developed international exhibition rewriting the history of the past 10 years under a new slogan.

3.Development of participating companiesThe Seoul International Cafe Show also spoke for the growth of the Korean coffee industry in terms of the increasing number of participants. In 2009, 171 companies from 10 countries participated while in 2010, 205 companies from 18 countries participated increasing by 19 percent year-on-year. In 2011, the number of companies increased to 280, recording a 36 percent rise. As such, the scale of companies participating in the exhibition grew every year. Compared to 2009, 2011 showed an amazing growth of about 63 percent.Not only the scale of the exhibition, but also satisfaction with the content increased by much. According to a survey conducted on participating companies, the level of satisfaction was 75 percent in 2009 (very satisfied 19 percent + satisfied 56 percent), which increased to 98 percent (very satisfied 67 percent + satisfied 31 percent) in 2010. Of those satisfied, those who marked very satisfied amounted to 67 percent showing that participating companies are very satisfied with the Seoul International Cafe Show as a business show for actual sales achievements. Such a high level of satisfaction was also proven at the 2011 Seoul International Cafe Show with already 62 companies and 157 booths confirming participation in the 2012 show during the four days of applications accepted during the 2011 show.

4.Development of visitorsThe Seoul International Cafe Show is different from other ordinary exhibitions in that it has harmoniously merged contents for a cultural space and the industry’s popularization with a space for successful business. Therefore, the number of visitors is much higher than any other business exhibition. In particular, in the case of weekends when most visitors come, those wait listed for registration were so many that they had to wait for an hour before entering. Commensurate to the growing scale of the exhibition, the number of visitors has also increased. It steadily grew from 2009 to 2011, reaching 61,000 in 2009, 65,000 in 2010 and 69,000 in 2011.

Ⅱ. 전시주제의 발전

2009년 제8회 서울카페쇼는 ‘For your tasty Life!’라는 주제로 커피, 커

피와 관련된 다양한 팬시푸드와 함께 삶의 질을 향상시키자는 모토로 나

아갔다. 2010년에는 ‘Taste the World!’로 세상의 모든 맛을 본다는 주제

아래 세계 각국의 커피 및 F&B산업 전문가들이 본격적으로 서울카페쇼

Ⅲ. 참가업체의 발전

참가업체의 양적 증가로도 역시 서울카페쇼는 한국 커피산업의 발전을 대변했다. 2009년 10개국에서 171개사가 참여한데 비해 2010년에는 14개국에

서 온 205개사가 참여해 전년도에 비해 19% 증가했고, 2011년에는 다시 18개국 289개사로 36% 증가해 매해 참여업체의 수가 날로 증가했다. 2009년과

2011년을 비교하면 약 63%가 증가한 놀라운 성장이다.

규모의 대형화뿐만 아니라 전시내용의 충실도 및 만족도 또한 높은 것으로 나타났는데 참가업체를 대상으로 한 만족도 설문조사에서 2009년 만족도

75%(매우만족 19%+만족 56%)에서 2010년 만족도는 98%(매우만족 67%+만족 31%)로 증가했으며, 백퍼센트에 가까운 비율 중 특히 ‘매우만족’한다는 의

견은 67%나 되어 대부분의 참가업체들이 실제적인 성과가 있는 비즈니스 쇼로써 서울카페쇼에 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

이러한 참가 만족도는 2011년 서울카페쇼에서도 입증됐는데 사흘간의 전시기간 중에 실시한 2012년 서울카페쇼 부스참가 조기신청에 이미 62여개

사, 157여개 부스가 확정지어졌다.

Ⅳ. 참관객의 발전

서울카페쇼가 다른 일반적인 전시회와 차별화되는 점은 성공적인 비즈니스를 위한 공간과 산업의 대중화 및 문화공유를 위한 콘텐츠가 잘 조화를 이루

고 있다는 점이다. 그래서 그 어떤 비즈니스 전시회보다 참관객의 수가 월등히 높다. 특히 참관객이 몰리는 주말의 경우 등록대기자가 너무 많아 1시간을

기다려야 입장을 할 수 있을 정도로 성황인 모습이다. 전시회의 규모가 성장하는 만큼 참관객의 수도 증가하고 있는데 2009년 6만1천여 명에서 2010년 6
