High-efficiency Climate Controls.Operating in extreme temperatures is nowmore comfortable with the optional cab air conditioner and heater installed. The air conditioner offers 14 250 kjcooling capacity and the heater output is18 690 kj. Six adjustable vents provideexcellent air flow throughout the cab andmakes defrosting the optional front doorand side windows easier. (Air conditioningavailable on the 268B only.)

Visibility. The Cat Skid Steer Loader has a wide cab opening providing exceptionalview of the work tool enhancing ease ofoperation and productivity. The slopedangle of the engine compartment allowsexcellent visibility to the rear of themachine. A new convex rearview mirroroption gives the operator a panoramic view of the rear and sides of the machine. For better visibility in low-light conditions,the standard forward lights are adjustable10 degrees in any direction.

Instrumentation. Cat Skid Steer Loadersuse instrument panels and gauges that aresimple, easy-to-use and reliable. Brightindicator lights and audible warning,signals any critical system situation. An engine air cleaner restriction indicatoris situated in the cab for easier reference.

Power TrainCaterpillar Hystat power train delivers aggressive performance and easy operation.

Cat Diesel Power.The heart of the Cat Skid Steer Loaderpower train is the Caterpillar 3024Cdiesel engine, which is turbocharged inthe 268B model. This rugged, reliablefour-cylinder Stage II compliant Catengine offers aggressive performanceand a fast torque curve for quickresponse.

Throttle Control.Dual engine throttle controls allow the operator to match engine speed tothe task. The hand throttle is ideal forjobs requiring consistent engine speed -such as cold planing or trenching. The foot throttle enables the operator to vary engine speed and minimize fuelconsumption for other tasks such asload and carry, truck loading, gradingand dozing.

Anti-Stall System. An exclusive anti-stall system on the Cat Skid SteerLoaders allows maximum power to the wheels while minimizing enginestalling. This exclusive system helpsmaximize productivity for experiencedoperators and makes it easier for noviceoperators to become productive.

Axial Piston Pumps. Dual, variable-displacement axial piston pumps aredriven directly off the engine andprovide hydraulic flow to the drivemotors via a closed loop system. Drive motors transfer mechanical powerto the wheels via two high-strength, pre-stressed chains per machine side.Chains run in an oil bath for constantlubrication and long life. Chains areadjustable through slots in the axlehousings.

Drive Axles. Drive axles are forged andinduction hardened for maximum life.They include a unique labyrinth sealwhich consist of lip and outer seal tohelp prevent debris such as wire andtwine from wrapping around the axleand destroying the seal. An inner seal is used for permanent lubrication ofaxle bearings - no daily axle service is required.

Hydraulic SystemHydraulic system has built-in reliability and provides exceptional wheel torque plus lift,breakout and auxiliary power to work tools.

Reliability and Cleanliness.Reduced potential leak points improvereliability and result in a cleanermachine. In addition, hydraulic oilflows through a 4-micron spin-on filter.A filter restriction indicator is located atthe operator station. A 74-micron screenin the hydraulic tank prevents largerdebris from entering the system andcausing damage to the hydrauliccomponents.

Hydraulic Oil Cooler.A high-efficiency hydraulic oil coolerenables the Cat Skid Steer Loader to work longer and harder in higherambient temperatures, even when usingcontinuous high flow work tools. The high-capacity hydraulic oilreservoir maintains lower operatingtemperatures.

High Flow XPS Hydraulic System.The Caterpillar High Flow XPShydraulic system is standard on the 268B.This industry-leading system delivershigh flow/high pressure auxiliaryhydraulic flow through a variable-displacement piston pump. High FlowXPS combines highly efficient operationwith maximum hydraulic power for themost demanding applications such ascold planing, trenching or stump grinding.High pressure hydraulic flow is deliveredeven at low speeds to overcome tough,difficult situations that would stall othersystems. The system is capable of sending100% of engine power to the work tool.

Front Hydraulics. Standard ON/OFFfront hydraulics are featured on the262B. Optional proportional frontauxiliary hydraulics are also available on these models.

Power and Reliability. Maximum powerand reliability are built into the Cat Skid Steer Loader hydraulic system. In addition to providing power to drivethe wheels, this system also provides theloader lift and tilt functions, powers theauxiliary circuit to drive work tools anddrives the engine cooling fan.

Hydraulic Pumps. Hydraulic pumps are driven directly off the engine formaximum hydraulic performance andreliability - no belts are used. Pumpsprovide hydraulic flow to the loader andauxiliary hydraulic circuits. Control ofthe loader lift and tilt functions is byhydraulically-operated joystick controlsfor low-effort and precise operation.

Auxiliary Hydraulics. Standard auxiliaryhydraulics to power work tools isavailable through quick-connecthydraulic couplings that are rigidlymounted to the loader arm. Cat XT hoseand O-Ring Face Seals help ensure a leak-free system.

Vertical Lift Loader LinkageInnovative loader design offers high lift height, extended reach and near-vertical lift path.

Vertical Lift Linkage. The 262B and 268BSkid Steer Loaders feature vertical liftloader linkage that provides excellentloader performance and durabilitywithout excess weight. This innovativedesign allows the machines to endure the punishment of heavy digging withminimal linkage wear.

Two Additional Links Per Side.They allow the loader arms to moveforward during the lift cycle. This provides fifty-five percent morereach when fully raised, compared to a conventional radial lift loader. When lowered, reach is the same as a radial lift design to help maintain goodride characteristics during loaded carry.

Lift Arms. The loader arms are extremelyrobust with a large torque tube at the rear. This makes the vertical linkagesystem exceptionally rigid. This rigidityincreases the service life of the machineand minimizes downtime.

Longer Wheelbase. A longer wheelbasegives these machines increased load-carrying capacity and gives them asmoother ride. It also improves weightdistribution of the machine for higher lift capacities.
