St Columba’s Hospice provides the highest standard of specialist

palliative care for patients with incurable progressive illness, as

well as support for their loved ones. Our care is completely free,

but we rely on donations of more than £3 million each year from

supporters like you, who believe in the work that we do.

We now need to rebuild St Columba’s Hospice, which will cost

£26 million. We still need to raise £7 million of this. Help us by

supporting our Buy a Brick Appeal. ‘Buy a brick’ in memory of a

loved one, to celebrate a special event or to show your support

for our work.

Welcome to the 24th Annual Art Exhibition of the Art Friends of St Columba’s Hospice

Each year this exhibition is mounted with the unstinting help of many people. In the years it has been running we have raised over £310,000 for the hospice.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to its success.

Over 100 professional artists support us and make it possible to assemble a collection of paintings, sculpture and jewellery which we hope you will peruse, enjoy and, hopefully, purchase.

The generous help of our band of over 50 volunteers allied to the constant support from the fundraising staff of the Hospice ensures the presentation of an exhibition of which we can be proud.

Our suppliers, with their reliable efficiency, also make an impor-tant contribution to the running of the event.

It goes without saying that the value of the work done by St Columba’s is incalculable. Everyone who visits this exhibition helps contribute to “making every minute count” for the patients and their relatives.

This year The Art Friends would like to of-fer a really special thanks to the well-known Scottish artist John Brown RSW. John, who has been a supporter of The Art Friends for many years, kindly agreed to give a paint-ing demonstration at the Leith School of Art in February this year to help raise funds for our current exhibition.

This immensely successful event raised £635 and was enjoyed by an audience of nearly 70 people. While painting, John was filmed by Jack Garrow and Peter Martin Smith of Republic Productions. This enabled the au-dience to see the development of the paint-ing on two large audiovisual screens. John enthralled and captivated the whole audi-ence with his demonstration of the process whereby a painting is brought to life.

None of this would have been possible with-out the help of fellow contemporary Scottish artist Jacqueline Watt. Jacqueline, a valued consultant to The Art Friends, organised the whole event practically single-handedly and sold all the tickets in a flash. A very warm thank you to Jacqueline.

We also offer our sincere thanks to The Leith School of Art whose studio was just the most fabulous venue for the event; to those who donated the refreshments and to all the vol-unteers on the day. We look forward to host-ing a similar event in future.
