2450 Lakeview is an outstanding example of residential design by iconic Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, and is one of the city’s most prestigious cooperative buildings. This intimate building contains only twelve residences, the majority of which encompass an entire floor. This ninth floor, 8000-square-foot home enjoys sweeping views of Lincoln Park, the North Pond and the Lake Michigan.

A private elevator vestibule opens into the 43-foot-wide gallery, which provides for an elegant transition to the public and private spaces. The meticulous renovation pays homage to the underlying architecture and design, while creating a beautiful and serene home with a timeless sensibility.

The gracious floorplan offers a living room, dining room, library, extraordinary kitchen that opens into the family room, and six en-suite bedrooms. The entire east wall of the home overlooks the park and lake. Storage in the home is plentiful, in addition to the use of three private storage rooms in the common area off the first floor.

The building offers a beautiful garden with expansive lawn and a lovely seating area with exposures to the north, west and south. The architecturally pleasing resident’s garage is located on the southern border of the property.

Shaw utilized handcrafted architectural elements like leaded glass, carved wood and wrought iron whenever possible.

The 43-foot-wide gallery peeks out to the serene views and acts as a receiving area, opening to the elegant entertaining rooms.

The formal living room plays to Shaw’s mastery of beautifully conceived, inviting interior spaces and subtle interior design detail, and of fers sweeping views of the park and lake.

Chicago philanthropist, Kate Buckingham, who gifted the city with the Buckingham Fountain in memory of her late brother, was an original owner in 2450 Lakeview. While in Europe, Kate fell in love with two rooms in a castle. “I will buy both,” she cabled Shaw, “one for the Art Institute and one for the apartment you are building for me.”

Shaw avoided the formality of French architecture and was especially enamored with open spaces.

Howard Van Doren Shaw typically designed houses either as an elongated rectangle, or as a building surrounding a courtyard. Shaw preferred to do the landscaping himself.

LINCOLN PARKThe gem on the lakefront, Lincoln Park is located just two miles north of downtown and bordered by North Avenue, Diversey Parkway, the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.

In Lincoln Park, Chicago’s motto urbs in horto “City in a Garden” truly comes to life. Historic buildings and beautiful single-family homes sit in harmony with a multitude of peaceful parks, while quiet, tree-lined residential streets give way to bustling, historic retail hubs. Lincoln Park is also home to five architecturally significant churches and DePaul University. The namesake park is a sprawling, 1,208 acres filled with a nature museum, a conservatory, the Alfred Lily Caldwell pool, the famed zoo and miles of walking paths.

HOUSINGLincoln Park is one of Chicago’s most coveted neighborhoods, filled with historic rowhomes, converted loft buildings, high-rise apartment towers, elegant turn-of-the-century cooperative buildings and new-construction single-family homes and townhomes, providing buyers looking to live in Lincoln Park an unparalleled choice of housing options.

LIFESTYLEThe community’s amenities, location and housing options attract a vibrant mix of residents all drawn to the gorgeous, park-like yet urban setting amidst world-class dining, shopping, museums, symphony, opera and the warmth of Chicago’s Midwestern charm. Lincoln Park is virtually unrivaled among urban neighborhoods in the U.S.
