It has been a pleasure to get to know many of the students over the past year and to see them working hard towards their goals. I’m confident that many of them will achieve HSC results that they can be really proud of and I wish them all the best for the exams ahead and for their lives beyond school. A special thank you goes to the outgoing leadership team and in particular, our outgoing School Captains, Vanessa Fryer and Zac Bruce, who have been fantastic young leaders and role models for the rest of the school. We were able to say a small thank you to the leadership team at a lunch we had last week at the Mount Annan Botanical Gardens, where the 2016 and the 2017 captains, vice captains and prefects were able to share stories and experiences about the roles they have undertaken. I’m extremely confident that our new leadership team, led by Lauren Cislowski and Derrick Luvuhze, will follow in the footsteps of the outgoing group and be wonderful ambassadors for Mount Annan High School in the year ahead. I would also like to sincerely thank our P&C group for the fundraising barbeque they ran last week at school during the council elections. It was great to see a large number of our SRC students working along side our parents to serve sausage and steak sandwiches to the voters as they came into the school. All funds raised go towards equipment and resources for our students, so the assistance of everyone involved was really appreciated. Finally, can I take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and restful Spring vacation and I look forward to a busy Term 4. The only approved reasons for absence include-

We have many students who have been progressing well withtheir attendance so far this year and we recently had an awardsceremony for the 54 students with 100% attendance. I wouldlike to congratulate all those students for their dedication andcommitment to their learning and continued good health.

Throughout Term 4 we will be holding more “Don’t be Lateto School Weeks” with the emphasis on unexplained lateness. There is a strong correlation between lateness and learningoutcomes and ensuring that our students are punctual is a traitthat any future employer will require. If your son or daughter hasissues with lateness please contact me at school and we maybe able to work together in ensuring they are better prepared tostart the school day.

On occasions, Principals may also request that some studentsobtain medical certificates for all absence due to ongoing orfrequent illness and days off school. This allows the school togain a full understanding of your child’s medical needs attendto any supports that may be required. There have been someoccasions where parents have not realized the amount of timetheir child has missed from school because they only have aday off ‘here and there’ but please remember these days addup quickly. As a general guide students should be aiming foran attendance rate of over 90% which equates to 20 days ayear. Please feel free to contact the school to enquire aboutyour son/daughters attendance rates and any outstandingabsences.

Over the past two terms, four students from year9 have participated in the Premiers DebatingChallenge for years 9 and 10. These students(Samantha Eisenhuth, Tiana Ah-Sam Perez, AnnaAmaro and Erin Holland) have workedexceptionally hard to work as a cohesive teamto produce well-written and delivered arguments. While the students did not progress to the nextstage of the competition, they showed greatimprovement, exceptional team work and a strongcommitment to debating. Each student should becommended for their hard work and dedication.
