When: During McKinley’s second term on September 6, 1901
Where:Temple of Music Exhibit at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York
Why: The Anarchist movement strongly believed that all rulers, governing officials, rich capitalists, and ordained clergy should be wiped out. Czolgosz believed that killing the President of the U.S. would give him positive press of this movement and send fear through other leaders providing them a warning.
How: Czolgosz approached President McKinley in a greeters’ line with a handkerchief bandaged on his right hand…under the handkerchief was the gun. He shot the President twice.
