TA9 Grammar Boot Camp
What a fabulous term we have had in TA9. Children are really working hard in order to master
those crucial literacy and numeracy skills. I have been very impressed with the level of maturity
and fantastic work ethic shown by many students in the class. We have had several “special
activities” this term in order to ensure student engagement in learning activities. The class has
been highly motivated and very well behaved. Well done boys and girls. This week we
participated in a Grammar Boot Camp where we were revising common, proper and pronouns
as well as learning about using past, present and future tense of verbs. It was a fun morning
and really helped revise some essential skills. - Mrs Knox

Dear Parents and Caregivers
Parenting
In my role I’m in the position to view others parenting approaches and how these have evolved in my 30 years in education. There is a saying that I think we need to keep in mind at all times that says; “Prepare your child for the path not the path for your child”.
Whenever as a parent or as a principal I see a child fail, have an interpersonal dispute or just have a bad day, I see this as a positive thing as it promotes self-reflection/ learning and resilience. I am mindful not to fix the child’s issue but to suggest strategies to come to a resolution. I feel that some parents are stealing these invaluable learning experiences from their children and the end result will be a very brittle individual unable to cope with the rigours of every-day life.
ICT
Children should not have Snap-Chat. Do not allow your child to have Snap-Chat. Should you breach Snap-Chat rules of a minimum age of 13 and allow your child to have Snap –Chat, don’t expect the school to waste valuable time and resources sorting out the impending fiasco that will undoubtedly follow. We can’t be expected to resolve issues of your own doing and in an environment in which we have no control.
Enrolments
We are experiences unprecedented demand for places in our classes for 2018 and have waiting lists in place. I think South Padbury is a great school and if my daughters were school aged they’d be here in a flash. However, I know that we’re not for everyone and if we’re not for you that’s also fine – there are many other schools in the area that may better suit your needs and expectations. If this is the case, I implore you to be true to your convictions and make way for others who’ll make the most of the opportunities South Padbury offers.

I won’t have a teaching role next year and will commit this time to extra support in the two Pre-Primary classes.
Class Placements
Over the past 5 years, we’ve carefully selected staff with differing skills sets so that we can go some way towards meeting the needs of all of our students. Each year level has two classes (except for Year 6), and these two teach-ers are selected to compliment, support and collaborate so that all students receive the same curriculum diet. How-ever, all teachers are different and having the double stream means that I can match individual student needs to the unique skills sets of our teachers.
Throughout this year I have been placing students with teachers for 2018 and have put a lot of time, effort and ener-gy into the process in collaboration with teachers. I’m really confident that the right students are with the right teach-ers and we’re in for an almighty 2018.

Voluntary School Contributions
Food Relief in Australia
The demand for food relief throughout Australia is rising, and sadly almost 30% of
food relief recipients in Australia each year are children.
As parents we all worry about how our children will grow and develop. For families affected by food insecurity, it can seriously impact on child development outcomes - hindering academic ability and influencing long-term health issues like obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
This year South Padbury is proud to support the Foodbank Christmas Appeal. Families that wish to participate are invited to donate non-perishable goods in collection boxes located in the office/reception area and in the pre-primary classrooms. All donations make a difference (and it’s a great opportunity to clear out your pantry before Christmas too).
Donation suggestions include: meals in a can; pasta; rice; evaporated and long-life milk; canned fruit, meat and vegetables; tinned fish; soft tacos and wraps; baked beans; baby food and formula. All donations must be unopened, and in-date.
More infomation on food insecurity can be found here: https://aifs.gov.au/cfca/publications/food-insecurity-australia-what-it-who-experiences-it.

The last school disco for the year will be on Friday 24 November. The theme (chosen by the Year 6's) is the awesome 80's. So dig out your old neon and leg warmers - big hair too if you're brave!
Thank you to all our Class Reps, who ensure that we have volunteers in the Canteen every week. A huge thank you to those lovely volunteers to give up their valuable time to distribute lunch orders and sell ice creams. What a wonderful school community we have, where all classes contribute their time and effort equally. The children (and the P&C) appreciate everything our gorgeous parents do, and the children LOVE seeing their parents involved in the school.
The next P&C meeting will be on Wednesday 22 November at 7pm in the Staff room.
