1. Admission Policy The Doctoral Program of Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology, in order to assume responsibility at every educational and research organization through the collaborative policy among industry, government, and academia in an internationally advanced research environment, aims at nurturing researchers who have wide perspective and highly creative research and development capabilities adequate enough to pursue research activities independently, or nurturing university faculty who possess reliable skills in both education and research. The graduate school, without delay, also responds not only to fusional, collaborative, and flexible approaches to research activities but to developments of new fields, necessary for the advancements of interdisciplinary researches and international research collaborations, which will be demanded further in the years ahead. The graduate school welcomes students who are enthusiastic for working broadly in society as researchers based on this policy. Major of Mathematical Sciences welcomes students who have acquired basic methodology for problem solution in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and system science, and are eager to learn the advanced expertise in the educational policy of the major. Major of Electrical and Electronic System Engineering welcomes students who understand the following policy and are eager to pursue research independently, or to work productively in society where advanced expertise is demanded.

This program promotes research and education not only in the fields of electric engineering, electronic engineering and information processing but in interdisciplinary integration of these areas. ・to nurture researches and higher-level engineers with flexible thinking through continual

and practical pursue of the research theme based on their own conception. ・to contribute to international society through academic researches by developing abilities to

conduct researches with global world perspective and credentials for independent, self-motivated, and creative power of conception.

Major of Information, Communication, and Media Design Engineering welcomes students who understand the following policy and are eager to pursue research independently, or to work productively in society where advanced expertise is demanded. This program promotes basic and advanced academic research in the related fields of

information, communication, and media design engineering, and conduct researches in various areas with global perspective and independence.

This program practically pursues advanced technological development themes and theoretical analysis themes to nurture researchers and advanced engineers who are creative and future-oriented to yield technological germinations. This program nurtures abilities to conduct researches from a comprehensive view and

characters and credentials such as independence, self-motivation, and creative power of conception, and also language proficiency for international contribution.

Major of Mechanical System Engineering welcomes students who understand the following policy and are eager to pursue research independently, or to work productively in society where advanced expertise is demanded. This program conducts research education aiming at applicable research achievements

centered on basic research in mechanical engineering and in the related fields. This program nurtures researchers and engineers who can serve a social role by promoting

advanced researches and actual utilization in the boundary area among electrical, electronic, information engineering, and mechanical engineering in its center.

Major of Architecture, Civil, and Environmental Engineering welcomes students who understand the following policy and are eager to pursue research independently, or to work productively in society where advanced expertise is demanded. This program nurtures engineers who have a new paradigm encompassing architecture, civil

engineering, and environment to construct and consolidate a mature society in the 21st Century. This program nurtures engineers and researchers who can delve into land disaster prevention

and urban renovation from a global viewpoint considering world environmental issues. This program develops abilities to solve various problems in architecture, cities, civil

engineering, and environment from a comprehensive viewpoint through exchange and fusion of knowledges and skills accumulated in each field of architecture, civil engineering, and environment.

Major of Materials and Life Sciences welcomes students who understand the following policy and are eager to pursue research independently, or to work productively in society where advanced expertise is demanded. This program integrates the areas of conventional materials engineering, biotechnology, and

environmental science to reproduce an academic field with a comprehensive view of human beings, engineering, and society. This program conducts research and education under the consistent academic framework

with the aim of fusion of “people” and “materials”, integrating biotechnology and material engineering, from fundamental technology to applied technology. This program nurtures creative engineers and advanced researchers who can independently

pursue research with a broad perspective without relying on a specific field.

Major of Advanced Multidisciplinary Engineering welcomes students who satisfy the following criteria based on its aim of nurturing internationally-minded human resources who can improve the current advanced technology and take initiative to produce new technology for the next generation in the boundaries among the field of science and technology and the fields such as human productive activities, daily life, healthcare, welfare, disaster prevention. Students who try to produce new technology to realize collaborating systems between human and machine by delving into man-and-intelligent-machine (robot)relation from a technological viewpoint of system control engineering, information engineering, and robotics.

Students who try to produce advanced technology applicable to the next generation by delving into fundamental and applied technology regarding healthcare, welfare, and alternative medical treatment from a viewpoint of medical engineering, electronic engineering, control engineering, ergonomics, and mind-body science.

Students who try to produce new technology for the next generation that yields environmental safety and comfort by delving into technology regarding environmental safety in human activity space from a viewpoint of vibration engineering, geotechnics, and architecture.

Major of Informatics welcomes students who understand the following policy and are eager to pursue research independently, or to work productively in society where advanced expertise is demanded. This program nurtures human resources who have advanced research abilities demanded by

the progress and development of information technology in IT society. This program conducts research and education of information science which is fundamental

in advanced information society and of media informatics for utilization of information in society. This program conducts research and education focusing on methods of utilization of

information in society through the acquisition of fundamental information science in addition to the conventional advanced expertise education centered on information technology. This program nurtures researchers, engineers, and scientists who are credited with high-level

expertise, broad perception, and fruitful creativity.

3. Eligibility for Applicants

Applicants shall be one of the following people. ①those who possess a master's degree, or those who are expected to acquire a master’s degree by

the time of enrollment ②those who are entitled with an academic degree abroad equivalent to a master’s degree, or those

who are expected to acquire a degree equivalent to a master’s degree by the time of enrollment ③those whose eligibility criteria are approved by the Doctoral Program of TDU Graduate School, at

the time of enrollment in the TDU Doctoral Program, under the condition that after they

completed 16-year authorized education abroad or completed undergraduate education, they

have worked on research at a university or a research institute for at least two years and have

acquired academic knowledge through their research, equivalent to or higher than that of

applicants with a master’s degree. ④ those whose eligibility criteria are approved by the Doctoral Program of TDU Graduate School on

the condition that they possess academic knowledge equivalent to or higher than that of

applicants with a master’s degree.

Applicants in ③ or ④ in the above categorization must go through the preliminary review,

which is described in the following section. ③ or ④ applicants must confirm this procedure.

i. At the time of enrollment in the Doctoral Program of TDU Graduate School the applicants must

have two-year-or-longer research activity at an educational or research institute of various kinds,

or at a company or another similar organization.

ii. The applicants must have research achievement in works such as authors, academic journals,

academic lectures, research reports, or patents and similar categories, whose evaluation can be

equivalent to or higher than that of a master’s degree thesis. ● The applicants in ④ will be screened in the same way as the applicants in ③ will, but the ④

screening will not inquire about academic career.

(5) Preliminary Review

Preliminary Review is conducted through the examination of submitted documents. An interview

examination could be arranged when it is necessary.

You will be examined comprehensively through an interview and inspection of the submitted

documents.

You will be asked about specialized subjects, the contents of your master’s thesis, and the contents

of research that you would like to pursue.

If you have spent 3 years and longer since you finished Master’s Program by the application date,

your research activities during the period will be asked about. ※You have to prepare materials such as printouts or PowerPoint data to explain your master’s

thesis or your research achievements for around 30 minutes. ii Applicants in the category ③ or ④

You will be asked about expertise regarding specialized subjects related to research field, research

achievements, and the contents of research that you would like to pursue. A written examination,

when its necessity is confirmed, will be provided. ※You have to prepare materials such as printouts or PowerPoint data to explain your research

achievements for around 30 minutes.

9. Enrollment Procedures

(1) You have to submit the necessary documents for enrollment and pay the deposit for enrollment as

the initial step to be enrolled.

(2) In order to be enrolled at TDU, you have to secure a person living in Japan as your guarantor, such

as a parent, who will support your life and budget. A person living abroad cannot be recognized as

a guarantor for your TDU enrollment.

(3) Documents for enrollment procedures will be sent to the address written in the Entrance

Examination Application Form. When you change the address, inform TDU International Center of

the new address immediately. Other campus offices will not handle the change of your address.

(4) If you do not complete the necessary procedure for enrollment by the end of the following

enrollment procedural period, TDU will judge that you have withdrawn from the enrollment.

(Important Notices)

(1) Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research will be effective for 3

years, which is a standard enrollment period of doctoral program.

(2) If you are enrolled in September 2020, the deadline of the tuition payment for the second semester

is the end of April, 2021. You will receive document for tuition payment in early April.

(3) If you are enrolled in April, 2021, the deadline of the tuition payment for the second semester is the

end of October, 2021. You will receive document for tuition payment in late July.

(4) The enrollment fee, once it is paid, shall not be refunded under any circumstances. The tuition and

other fees will be refunded according to the designated procedure, which is stipulated in the guide-

booklet of enrollment fee payment.

(5) If you need to take a leave of absence during the enrollment period due to some reasons, you have

to pay ¥60,000 for one semester to maintain your student status.

(6) If you find yourself in a situation to repeat one academic year, the tuition of your enrollment year

shall be applied.
