It’s February already! Time seems to be zooming byus...and picking up speed. We are all back, and we areall busy with all our activities and friends, old and new.Let’s enjoy, and then enjoy some more. Eat dessertfirst!

February bring lots of pedestrians, bicycles, scooters, golf carts, cars, trucks, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, strangers, and all sorts of distractions. It’s busy outthere. Let’s be vigilant and be careful.

Hopefully your resolutions for the new year haven’tbeen tested too severely. When it comes to resolutions, you just have to “keep on keeping on.” In February we will be searching for some good peopleinterested in serving as a member of our ExecutiveBoard of the Residents’ Association or on the manycommittees that contribute to our inclusive andcongenial community. Please consider being involved;without you it doesn’t happen.

Many people have suffered from colds and flu thisseason. Listen to your health care professionals, andstay healthy.

Have a sunny day

Wally Peech, FE Association President

Fountain East Ladies’ Club

There was no snow nor

freezing temps in our neck

of the woods; however, it

was cool enough to wear our

sweaters and scarves and

there were some earmuffs, too.

The ladies of Park Haven hosted the January

luncheon and presented a very clever fashion show

with apparel that one must add to her wardrobe such

as the can can dress (a dress hung with various

cans), the tissue dress so that you would never be

without your Charmin; an afternoon tea dress

complete with a variety of tea bags. It was fun and

entertaining.

During the business portion of the luncheon, it was

voted to do the Angel Tree again this year.

The next meeting will be February 14th.

The following recipes are from the December

luncheon and were highly requested:

We ended the 2017 year by sharing and caring and celebrating:

Sharing of December birthdays:

(L) Charlie (Paxton) and the “Angels,” Aleta Nybakke, Carole

Burrows, Sheryl Breen, celebrating at the monthly birthday

party.

(below) Sharing caroling the Arizona way, hats, scarves

and flip flops. Thank you Dick Baird for leading the songs.

Sharing Christmas dinner:

Brenda and Woody Woodbeck, along

with their crew (pictured-Paul & Lois

Sebesta, Norma Lanning, Linda

Wight, Marcia Meadows, Merlin

Koenig, Mercy Best, Ann Klatt, John

Bassingthwaite and not pictured-

Judy and Charlie Paxton, Joan Read).

Door prizes were donated by Carolyn

Taylor, Linda Wight and Brenda

Brooks. Over 80 residents and

guests enjoyed this special holiday

dinner. Thank you Brenda and

Woody.

Caring for those less fortunate:

Generous donations from the Ladies’

Association, FEVA, the soup supper 50/50

raffle and residents helped brighten

Christmas for three families. There were

gifts as well as boxes of food. Patty Maxon,

who chaired the Angel Tree Project, did an

outstanding job. Several of Santa’s helpers

took time out from their North Pole duties

to wrap and deliver these items to the very

appreciative families. Thank you one an all

for you care and concern.

Celebrating the end of a year and the beginning of a new one:

New Year’s Eve saw residents playing cards and games and enjoying an endless buffet of treats. Most

stayed to watch the clock tick down into 2018. Thank you Jan and Kenny Wilhite for organizing a great

evening.

2018-first event of the new year, the chili dinner.

2017 Chili Cook-Off Champ, Steve Knobbe, put

together his outstanding blue ribbon chili recipe. It

was enjoyed by a crowd of over 80 people and not a

bean left in the pans! Karen Kube made the delicious

French bread; Margret Atwood the key lime

cheesecake. Helen Guenette oversaw the workers, and

there was a lot of help: Judy Paxton, Gerri Smith, Barb

Alder, Brenda & Jack Carlson, Larry Matheny. A bonus

of the evening was that so many people enjoyed just

visiting.

Book Club10:00am-Library

Our read for this month is One Thousand White

Women, by Jim Fergus. It is the story of May Dodd

and a colorful assembly of pioneer women who, under

the auspices of the U.S. government, travel to the

western prairies in 1875 to intermarry among the

Cheyenne Indians. The covert and controversial

"Brides for Indians" program, launched by the

administration of Ulysses S. Grant, is intended to

help assimilate the Indians into the white man's

world. Toward that end May and her friends embark

upon the adventure of their lifetime. Jim Fergus has

so vividly depicted the American West that it is as

if these diaries are a capsule in time.

In March we will be reading and discussing The Tea

Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. It is a "a

powerful story about a family separated by

circumstance, culture and distance. It paints an

unforgettable portrait of a little known region and

its people and celebrates the bond that connects

mothers and daughters.”

We love having new members. There are no

requirements except to enjoy reading books. Each

month we discuss a book we've all read. It's

interesting and fun.
