OUR 81ST ANNIVERSARY SEASON WAS ONE OF SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE.

We celebrated Joseph Giunta’s 30th year as Music Director and Conductor of the Des Moines Symphony and the centennial of legendary American composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein.

In a number of ways, the 2018-19 Season was also one of many firsts. The Des Moines Symphony Academy introduced a new Youth Wind Ensemble, we performed our first Sensory-Friendly Concert welcoming families of all ages and abilities to enjoy live music at the Temple for Performing Arts, and we celebrated a first-place finish for the Youth Orchestras Honors String Quartet at the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Youth Chamber Music Competition.

For the first time, we named the Principal Bassoon Chair through a gift from longtime supporters Eileen and Paul Tyler. And this summer, we launched the inaugural season of Water Works Pops – a new series of free outdoor concerts in the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park – through generous lead support from Linda and Tom Koehn.

Your investment joined with nearly 800 supporters totaling $1.6 million in Annual Fund gifts and grants played an important part in connecting our community through music and helping to make the Des Moines Symphony & Academy a leader in creating Central Iowa’s musical landscape.

THANK YOU FOR PLAYING YOUR PART

IN OUR SUCCESS.
