Greetings from Kimberly High School,
The start of the 2017-18 school year has been filled with positive energy from students and staff. Our student population is hovering around 1600 students and we are continuing to work on creating meaningful relationships with all students so we can provide a more personalized experience for them.
Here are some thoughts and reminders: Thank you for your help in preparing your student(s) for the start of the school year. Our
students have been actively engaged in learning from the first day of school and we appreciate your help and support in making sure they have the resources and support they need to be successful at KHS.
Homecoming was a great success-even the rain held off until the end of the parade!
Kudos to all of the students who were part of this excitement filled week. Our band, choir, flag team, and dance team were again outstanding. We had nearly 1300 students at the Homecoming Dance! So much of the success of Homecoming Week can be attributed to the work of our student council, their advisors, our coaches, and the advisors of our many clubs and organizations.
We held our first advisory for our Academic and Career Planning (ACP) initiative in
mid-September. The end goal for our ACP program is to ensure students have a clearly and viable post-high plan. This will be accomplished by working through a series of activities and conferences both in school and in the community. Please check our website for more ACP information.
Thank you for your assistance with the expectations for student drop-off and pick-up in
front of the school. We are working hard to insure we have a safe area for students to cross from the parking lot into the building.
I hope you are able to join us for parent-student-teacher conferences on October 9th from
5 to 8 pm. Information on how to sign-up for an appointment was sent home to you and can also be found in this newsletter.
Please be sure to check our Twitter feed (@khsmakers), Facebook page, and website for
current news and activity information.
Always Proud to be a Papermaker,
Mike Rietveld

Every Wednesday Morning from 7:40-8:10 KHS offers support to freshman. Academic Annihilators are student tutors offering a wide range of support in all subject areas designed to help freshman better transition to the demands of KHS.
Contact your son or daughter’s classroom teacher or Kelly Jansen [email protected] for more information on signing up for this amazing opportunity of support.

“Math Avengers” Math Another fantastic opportunity that KHS provides to kids seeking support and success in math is the
Teaching Assistant Program, we like to call the “Math Avengers.” These tutors are all currently in
Calculus AB or BC and expressed an interest in helping other students succeed in their math courses.
Avengers are designed to help kids with Math 3, 3ext or Precalc. Please speak with a math teacher or
email Kelly Jansen ([email protected]) about being connected with one of these Student
Math tutors during lunches. Math Avengers are here to help “rid the world of math-related anxiety…
one student at a time!”

Parent Teacher Conference Information
This information was sent out on September 25th. This is a reminder notice.
1. Go to www.myconferencetime.com/kimberlyhs
2. Click on the folder that says Parent Teacher Conferences October 2017.
3. Click on the name of your child’s teacher.
4. Select the desired time for your conference by clicking on “Sign Up.”
5. Submit the requested information.
If you have several children attending our school, click on “Register for Multiple Conferences” (red banner)
and follow the prompts to schedule your children for several conferences. Please allow adequate time to move from room to room. Remember that the school is large with three
levels. Talk with your student to obtain their schedule or look at it on Infinite Campus. Any rooms that begin with
a 0 are on the ground level of the High School. First floor rooms begin with a 1 and second floor rooms with a
2. Music rooms are independent of the three levels of classrooms and are located near the main entrance. To
save time you may want to schedule your conferences by floors. Remember we have 10 minute passing periods
during the school day so our students can move between classes with ease so please plan this time
for yourself. A suggestion would be that if you have to go from room 0042 to room 2011 you should plan on 7 or
so minutes for travel time. Obviously scheduling 2 times on the same floor would only need a few minutes.
If you feel you will need more than the 5 minutes that are allocated for conference time please communicate with
the teacher to set up a longer conference.
Friday, October 6th
Bring in your original picture packet to
qualify to have a retake done.
The photographers will be set up in
the commons as you come into school
in the morning. We will make a
number of all calls in the morning to
remind students to come down for
picture retakes.

Kimberly High School has decided to participate in the Pre ACT and Aspire Interim Assessment packages this fall. Each spring, as you know, students in grades nine, ten and eleven are mandated to participate in the ACT package of high school assessments, whether that be the Aspire Early High School Assessment for freshmen and sophomores or the ACT for juniors. In order to help students prepare for those important assessments and provide additional
achievement data to our staff, students will take these assessments the week of October 23.
Sophomores and Juniors will report to KHS on Tuesday, October 24 at the regular start time of 7:40 for the testing. The building schedule for October 24 has been attached to this email. A
second round of buses will run to deliver freshman and seniors to the school at 10:45.
A second bus run will occur
3.5 hours later than the first
bus run.

Dear Kimberly High School Parent or Guardian,
Beginning in the 14-15 school year, the state of Wisconsin introduced a number of changes to the state’s
student assessment system. Since that time, those changes have remained consistent and include:
Aspire Early High School Assessment – grades nine and ten
ACT and WorkKeys – grade eleven
Forward Social Studies assessment – grade ten
The ACT Early High School Assessment will cover five subject areas for students in grades nine and ten:
Reading, Math, Writing, Language Arts and Science. The tests will be computer-delivered and will be spread
out over multiple days. Students in grade nine will test during their English classes the weeks of April 9 and 16.
Students in grade ten will test on April 10 & 11 during a modified school schedule. In addition, students in grade
ten will take the Wisconsin Forward Exam, a Social Studies-only test that will be administered by computer on
Wednesday, April 11.
In addition, every junior in the state of Wisconsin is required to take the ACT and Work Keys assessments. This
year those tests will be held on February 27 and 28. All juniors will report on those dates during a modified
school schedule.
Please note the modified school schedules listed on the next pages.
Additional information about the ACT Early High School and Forward assessments will be shared as they
become available.
If you have questions about the ACT Aspire Early High School assessment, please contact me by phone or
email.

Jason Nate
