CONFERENCE OVERVIEW: The New Frontier: Innovation in Industrials & Energy Conference (the “Conference”

or “New Frontier”) is a concept by Hank Torbert, an executive and private investor focused on identifying and

supporting emerging technologies companies, and Kirk Coburn, professional surfer, founder of SURGE Ventures,

the top ranked accelerator and seed investor for energy entrepreneurs, and active energy technology angel investor.

Hosted annually, the New Orleans–based two–day conference will focus on creating an environment that allows the

world’s top innovators, thinkers, executives, visionaries, investors, and entrepreneurs to re–think energy.

The Industrials and Energy Sectors have experienced tremendous change in the last decade—confronting obstacles

related to safety, security, environment, and price sensitivity. Companies are seeking ways to not only overcome these

obstacles, but to improve and optimize production and reduce costs. To do this, many are turning to the Industrial

Internet; leveraging data and designing solutions utilizing AI, advanced materials and other emerging technologies.

New Frontier brings together thought leaders to explore how culture and innovation is transforming every segment

of the Industrials and Energy sectors.

The event will host the leading corporates, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers, and other prominent

members of the ecosystem for two days of conversation, dialogue, and networking.

CONFERENCE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE: The New Frontier: Innovation in Industrials & Energy Conference is the

ONLY conference that focuses on emerging technologies for all the key industrials sub–sectors. (See Appendix: Selected Competing Conferences). Furthermore, the Lux Research partnership brings substantial credibility that will significantly

enhance the New Frontier’s ability to attract industry thought leaders and attendees.

WHY NEW ORLEANS? New Frontier has the “New Orleans Advantage.” New Orleans is the most unique city in

America in terms of culture and bringing people together. We have the ability to leverage the culture, sites and feel of

the city to create a relaxed, collaborative environment for dialogue and open communication among the range of critical

industrials stakeholders (executives, founders, entrepreneurs, investors, etc.). Through key events throughout the city,

we can create an unparalleled dialogue.

New Orleans is both the epicenter for Louisiana’s Industrials sector and the premier destination for high quality

conferences and events. Moreover, New Frontier’s sector focus is strategically aligned to support multiple economic

development models championed by organizations, such as Greater New Orleans’ Inc.

SECTOR HIGHLIGHTS:

• The top industries in Louisiana are the petrochemical industry, agriculture, aerospace manufacturing and tourism.

• Louisiana is the 3rd largest producer of petroleum and the 2nd largest producer of natural gas in the United States.

• Louisiana has the greatest concentration of crude oil refineries, natural processing plants and petrochemical products facilities in the Western Hemisphere.

• Louisiana has the longest coastline of any state—15,000 miles.

• Louisiana has 5,000 miles of navigable waterways.

Page 11: 2017 - Hank Torbert · As per Greater New Orleans, Inc.’s analysis, SXSW in Austin provides an excellent example of what a strategically– aligned conference can do for a region

Manufacturing

Greater New Orleans has an impressive resume when it comes to manufacturing. In Greater New Orleans, there

are approximately 34,000 people directly employed in manufacturing. Not only is the workforce in Southeast

Louisiana capable, they are affordable and highly productive. As of 2014, manufacturing accounted for $16B in

gross regional product, approximately 20% of the economy. This is primarily due to the incredible infrastructure

that exists for manufacturers, including the largest port complex in the world, all six Class–I rail lines, along with 2

east/west and 2 north/south interstates.

Energy

There is no other place like Greater New Orleans for investments into the energy and petrochemical sector. A

robust pipeline network, large tracts of land along the Mississippi River, and a high concentration of skilled labor

sets New Orleans apart. In Greater New Orleans there are more than 27,000 people directly employed in energy

and petrochemicals. Despite the high concentration of activity here, there are still ample opportunities for

greenfield investments and colocations. As of February 2016, Louisiana ranked 4th in energy expenditures per

capita, 9th in crude oil production, and 4th in natural gas production nationwide.

Shipping

As one of the largest industries in Louisiana behind oil and gas, and agriculture, maritime employment includes

vessel operators, marine terminals, shipyards and workers engaged in the movement of cargo exclusively within the

United States. Employment income related to Louisiana’s maritime industry is more than $3.54B annually. Louisiana

is the sole state to post more than $10B in total gross economic output directly related to its maritime industry.

Page 12: 2017 - Hank Torbert · As per Greater New Orleans, Inc.’s analysis, SXSW in Austin provides an excellent example of what a strategically– aligned conference can do for a region

Agriculture

Louisiana is one of the nation’s largest producers of cotton, sugarcane, rice, sweet potatoes and pecans. It is also a

major producer of soybeans and corn. Louisiana is the only source of the Tabasco pepper, prized as a condiment across

the world. Poultry is the largest livestock industry. The state is also the nation’s largest producer of alligator hides and

crawfish. Tourism is Louisiana’s second largest industry after forestry (including paper–making and wood producing).

Louisiana has more than 13.9M acres of forests.

International Trade

The trade industry is as healthy as it has ever been in Southeast Louisiana. In 2014, exports totaled $124.4B with an

additional $93.1B of imports. When taken from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Baton Rouge, the port system is

the largest in the world. In fact, the US Chamber of Commerce named Greater New Orleans the fastest growing export

location in the country. Additionally, trade is directly responsible for almost 30,000 jobs in Greater New Orleans.
