Who We Are Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties

Our work involves much more then serving as grantmakers and working with caring donors. We alsoserve as capacity builders, conveners, and thought leaders. We build networks and maintainpartnerships to achieve our vision for the variety and strength of our programs and that includes ourcorporate sponsors.

The generosity and commitment of our donors over the past 17 years has provided more than $3million in grants being returned to our community's charitable sector.

The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties brings together people whocare about their community.

Our Mission is to foster a community of grantmakers, promote strategic local leadership, and investin partnerships for the benefit of the community of Loudoun and Northern Fauquier.

Supporting Our Work

In partnership with the Washington Association of Regional Grantmakers, the CommunityFoundation has gathered together a unique team representing local businesses, philanthropists,nonprofit staff, faith-based representatives, educators, and government agency staff to form aSteering Committee of thought-leaders.

Our goal? To identify voids in our community’s social profit sector and seek partnerships andsolutions to tackle them. It’s a community conversation of purpose that will guidethe Community Foundation in future work and partnerships.

At the top of the list is a Community Awareness Campaign portraying charitable need in LoudounCounty.

Community Awareness Campaign

Driven by data showing low charitable giving rates of the residents living in Loudoun County,(1.98% versus 3% nationwide) pockets of poverty that are not seen, and services providedby our local nonprofit organizations that are not visible, a community awareness campaignwill launch in March 2017.

The strength of the campaign will be in the telling of the stories of those who live and work inLoudoun County. The goal of the stories is to inspire and empower the Loudoun CountyCommunity to learn about their neighbors in need, increase local charitable giving, and sparklocal volunteerism.

The stories will be used in a traveling display around the county, in social media, on acampaign website, and through print media, all of which will acknowledge and include our top-ranking sponsors.

Be a part of this first of its kind campaign in Loudoun County. Youremployees, customers, and stakeholders will take notice as livesare changed through the telling of stories. Be part of shaping ourcommunity even more as we learn about local needs and localsolutions.

Annual Day Of Giving

Our annual giving day that encourages individuals, families, groups, and businesses to givewhere you live. To date, Give Choose has raised more than $378,000.

Give Choose 2016 Facts:

$180,204 was raised through the generosity of more then 900 donors benefitting 60 nonprofitorganizations.

Between April 19th and May 3rd the Give Choose website was visited 4,700 times.

We had more than 100,000 Give Choose media impressions

#GiveChoose was a national trending topic between 11:00am - 2:00pm on May 3rd

#GiveChoose impressions on Twitter were 78,200

There were 135 donations that were scheduled in advance for a total of $24,499

For Give Choose 2017

Donors can start scheduling their gifts two weeks before Give Choose on May 2nd.

GiveChoose.org will be the call to action for the Community Awareness Campaign for thoselooking to make a donation.

Leadership Work

Forward Turn Youth Grantmakers

Supported by the S. Murray Rust and Mary H.C.Rust Student Philanthropy Project endowmentfund, and through a partnership with LoudounCounty Parks Recreation and CommunityServices and its Youth Advisory Council, ForwardTurn entrusts area high-school teen with the roleas local grantmakers.

Participants take part in learning how to writegrant proposals as well as analyze proposalssubmitted by local groups. We know we can helpthese teens strengthen their knowledge andcommitment to charity and philanthropy as theybecome adults.

Programs like Forward Turn have been shown tomore than quadruple volunteerism rates, doublegiving rates, and prepare our youth to beactive community philanthropists.

Social Impact Institute

Executive Coaching - Last year we offered Leadership Development through personalized executivecoaching and group cohort sessions over a 12-month period led by professional Leigh Shields. In2017 we will be condensing this through a 4 day Executive Directors Retreat.

Raising Charitable Children - Evening Event Fall 2017

Carol’s program will address many of the big questionsabout introducing charity and philanthropy to children,like “How can I start teaching kids about charity whilethey're still young?” or “How can I help my child getinvolved in charitable giving when they aren’t the leastbit interested?”

Everyone who attends will leave with some creativeideas for a more meaningful relationship with thechildren in your life, along with a copy of Carol's book,Raising Charitable Children.

Be known as the business who helped change conversationsaround the dinner table from Sterling to Round Hill to Ashburn toWaterford to South Riding.

Carol Weisman knows charitable giving. She alsoknows that we can start making a difference at anyage, something we are passionate about here at theCommunity Foundation. Next year Carol, who hasbeen featured in The New York Times and ParentsMagazine, will come to Loudoun County to sharepractical advice and inspirational stories of friendsand family who have made philanthropy a fun,rewarding part of a child's life.
