DUCKS IN THE POLLSOregon’s No. 11 ranking in the AP poll is its highest preseason ranking in program history. Week AP CoachesPreseason 11 11

SEASON-OPENING WIN- Oregon is now 4-0 in season-opening games under head coach Kelly Graves. - The Ducks' average margin of victory in those four games is 22.5 points. That includes a two-point win over No. 22 North Carolina to open 2015-16.

I'LL TAKE THAT- Oregon tallied 21 steals against CSUN, the second-most for the Ducks under head coach Kelly Graves (22 vs. Portland State on 12/17/15). - It is also just the second time Oregon has tallied more than 15 steals since the start of the 2014-15 season. - The 29 CSUN turnovers forced on Friday are the most by the Ducks since Graves took over.

MARGIN OF VICTORYOregon's 48-point win (91-43) over CSUN on Friday was the Ducks' second largest victory under head coach Kelly Graves. The biggest was a 63-point win (122-59) against Portland State on Dec. 17, 2015.

NON-CONFERENCE UNDER GRAVESOregon is 29-6 in regular season non-conference games in four-plus seasons under head coach Kelly Graves. - The Ducks went a perfect 11-0 in non-conference play during the 2015-16 season. - If you include postseason games (WNIT in 2015-16

and NCAA in 2016-17), the Ducks are 36-8 against non-Pac-12 opponents.

PK80As part of the PK80 - Phil Knight Invitational, the Ducks will host an incredible women’s basketball doubleheader at Matthew Knight Arena on Nov. 25. To honor Nike founder and Oregon alum Phil Knight for his 80th birthday, the No. 11 Ducks will meet No. 22 Oklahoma (2:30 PM) after No. 1 UConn plays Michigan State (12 PM).

THE PAC-12’S YOUNGEST TEAMDespite being picked second in the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll, Oregon is tied with Oregon State with the youngest roster in the conference. Both the Ducks and Beavers each have just four upperclassmen this season.

THE PAC-12’S TALLEST TEAMWith seven players standing 6-foot-2 or taller, Oregon is the tallest team in the Pac-12 for the 2017-18 season. California, Stanford, Colorado and Utah are just behind with six.

PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANSSabrina Ionescu was named a second team preseason All-American by Lindy’s while both Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard were named third team preseason All-Americans by Street & Smith.

IONESCU NO. 8 ON ESPNW TOP-25 PLAYERS LISTSabrina Ionescu was ranked No. 8 in ESPNW’s preseason list of the top-25 players in the NCAA. Here’s what Graham Hays had to say about her - “Make no mistake, it’s substance more than style that makes Ionescu valuable on a basketball court. Like former Oklahoma star Stacey Dales for a new generation, Ionescu runs a game like a point guard, rebounds like a small forward and, when called upon, scores like a superstar. She does all of it efficiently, posting a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio and shooting better than 40 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line. All substance. But

ONE TO WATCH: Guard Lexi Bando entered her senior season as the top three-pointer shooter in the country. Her career three-point field goal percentage of 45.7 is the best among active players in the NCAA.

for a program still establishing itself, Ionescu’s style and flair - her willingness to find the spotlight - are invaluable.”

HEBARD NO. 25 ON ESPNW TOP-25 PLAYERS LISTRuthy Hebard was ranked No. 25 in ESPNW’s preseason list of the top players in the NCAA. Here’s what Mechelle Voepel had to say about Hebard - “Like fellow sophomore Sabrina Ionescu, Hebard had a great debut season last year for Oregon. The Alaska native hit the game-winning shot against Temple in the NCAA tournament’s first round and had a double-double against Duke in the second round, as the Ducks ultimately advanced to the Elite Eight. Coach Kelly Graves said Hebard has gotten physically stronger and benefited from USA Basketball play over the summer.”

POINT GUARD OF THE YEAR WATCH LISTSophomore Sabrina Ionescu was named one of 20 watch list members for the 2018 Nancy Lieberman Award, which annually goes to the top point guard in women’s college basketball. Also on the list from the Pac-12 are Colorado’s Kennedy Leonard and UCLA’s Jordin Canada. The award is presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. EVERYTHING BACKThe Ducks return 100-percent of their scoring and rebounding from last season’s inspiring NCAA Tournament run. Sophomore Ruthy Hebard averaged a team-high 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds in the postseason last year while fellow sophomore Sabrina Ionescu averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.

TOP-25 TESTEDLast year Oregon played a whopping 16 games against top-25 teams. The Ducks went 6-10 in those contests with wins against No. 24 Michigan State, No. 20 California, No. 15 UCLA, No. 11 Washington, No. 9 Duke and No. 4 Maryland. Oregon’s season ended in the Elite Eight with a loss to No. 1 UConn. IONESCU FRESHMAN OF THE YEARAfter posting more triple-doubles than any freshman in NCAA history, guard Sabrina Ionescu was named both the ESPNW national freshman of the year and the USBWA national freshman of the year. Ionescu tallied four triple-double last year, tied for the third-most in NCAA single-season history and the most of any freshman. Only Stanford’s Nicole Powell (5, 2002) and Youngstown State’s Danielle Carson (6, 1986) had more. Ionescu hit game-winning shots for the Ducks against both No. 20 California and No. 11 Washington last year as she guided the Ducks back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005. Ionescu ranked third in the Pac-12 in assists (183) and 10th in scoring (14.6 ppg). She also ranked fifth in the league in three-point percentage (42.0) and eighth in three-pointers made (73).

FRESHMEN PHENOMSLast year the Ducks were the only team in the NCAA Tournament to start three freshmen - forward Ruthy Hebard, guard Sabrina Ionescu and forward Mallory

McGwire. The trio combined to score 59-percent of Oregon’s points (161-274) in the tournament and grabbed 61-percent of the team’s rebounds (79-130).

NCAA STAT RANKINGSOregon finished the 2016-17 season ranked in the top-25 in various statistical categories. - The Ducks led the Pac-12 and ranked fourth in the NCAA in three-point field percentage at 39.2 percent. - Oregon led the Pac-12 and ranked ninth in the NCAA with 611 total assists. The Ducks also led the league and ranked 19th in the nation averaging 16.5 assists per game. - The Ducks also ranked 19th in the NCAA, shooting 45.0 percent from the field.

ALL-PAC-12 TEAMIn addition to earning Pac-12 freshman of the year honors, Sabrina Ionescu was named to the all-Pac-12 team as a freshman. Fellow rookie Ruthy Hebard was also named all-league. They were the 17th and 18th freshmen in the history of the conference to earn all-Pac-12 honors. In addition, they were two of just four freshmen from Power 5 conferences to earn all-conference accolades.

HEBARD TAKES DOWN TEMPLEWith the Ducks trailing Temple, 70-69, with only seven seconds left in the game, Mallory McGwire found fellow freshman forward Ruthy Hebard open in the paint and the Fairbanks, Alaska, native hit a jumper to give the Ducks a 71-70 lead. Hebard sprinted down to the other end of the court and made a trailing block on a Feyonda Fitzgerald layup to secure Oregon’s first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2005. Hebard finished with a team-high 23 points plus seven rebounds.

DUCKS DOWN DUKE IN DURHAMAfter defeating No. 7 seed Temple in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Oregon upset No. 2 seed Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Ducks opened up a five points lead at halftime and never trailed in the second half en route to the 74-65 win. Ruthy Hebard shined once again, grabbing a huge double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. Sabrina Ionescu nearly tallied a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Despite getting outrebounded by the Blue Devils (41 to 33), Oregon limited Duke to just 2-of-15 shooting from three-point range (13.3-percent) and forced Duke into 13 turnovers. The win gave Oregon it’s first trip to the Sweet 16.

HISTORIC WIN VS. MARYLANDThe Ducks advanced to the Elite Eight last season after defeating No. 4 ranked and No. 3 seed Maryland, 77-63, in the Sweet 16. The No. 4 ranked Terrapins are the highest-ranked team the Ducks have ever defeated. Oregon held Maryland, which had lost just twice in the regular season, to a season-low 63 points.

2017-18 STARTING LINEUPS

Oregon Women’s Basketball Game Notes | 2017-186

Kelly Graves is in his fourth season at the helm of the Oregon women’s basketball program. He was named the seventh head coach in program history on April 7, 2014. Graves signed a contract extension with the Ducks on April 6, 2017 which will keep him in Eugene through the 2022-23 campaign.

Graves coached the Ducks to the most successful season in school history in 2016-17. Oregon reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005 but Graves and the Ducks did not settle for just an appearance, instead posting three straight upset wins to reach the program’s first Sweet 16 and Elite Eight. Despite being the only team in the 2017 tournament to start three true freshmen, No. 10 seed Oregon knocked off No. 7 seed Temple in the first round, No. 2 seed Duke in the second round and No. 3 seed Maryland in the Sweet 16 before falling to No. 1 seed UConn in the Elite Eight. Graves is the only coach in NCAA Tournament history to take two double-digits seeds to the Elite Eight (Gonzaga in 2011, Oregon in 2017). The Ducks’ exciting tournament run was fueled by Graves’ work on the recruiting trail the year prior, as the Ducks signed the No. 3 ranked class in the nation, highlighted by USA Today national high school player of the year, Sabrina Ionescu. The lead guard would go on to be named the ESPNW and USBWA national freshman of the year, in addition to all-Pac-12 and Pac-12 freshman of the year. Oregon’s offense under Graves was typically efficient in 2016-17, ranking in the top-30 of the NCAA in field goal percentage (45.0), three-point percentage (39.2) and assists (16.5 apg).

Graves guided the Ducks to a 24-11 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the WNIT in 2015-16. Oregon’s 24 wins was just one shy of the program record of 25, set in both 1980-81 and 1998-99. The Ducks started the season with an 11-0 mark, the second-best start in program history and later in the year won five straight Pac-12 games for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. The Ducks led the NCAA in three-point shooting at 42.1 percent and ranked sixth overall shooting at 46.6 percent. At the end of the 2016 season, star forward Jillian Alleyne, a two-time All-American under Graves, was selected in the second round of the WNBA draft, the Ducks’ first player selected since 2012.

Graves went 13-17 in his first season with the Ducks in 2014-15, taking a team built to run-and-gun under former head coach Paul Westhead and instilling strong fundamentals and a tough defense-first philosophy. Oregon held their opponents under 70 points 14 times in 2014-15 after allowing an NCAA-worst 89.1 points per game in 2013-14. The new offense also got going as Graves led his Ducks to a 66-64 win over No. 19 ranked Stanford in the regular season finale, UO’s first win against the Cardinal since 2004. Alleyne was named a third team All-American and first team all-Pac-12 following the season, making the jump from honorable mention in both as a sophomore.

Oregon is Graves’ fourth head coaching position, previously leading the programs at Big Bend Community College (1989-92), Saint Mary’s (1997-2000) and Gonzaga (2000-14).

Graves’ coaching career started at Big Bend CC in Moses Lake, Wash., where he accepted an assistant coaching position on the men’s team, but after the women’s coach left, he moved over to lead the women’s program instead. In three seasons (1989-90 through 1991-92) Gaves took a four win team his first season to a 23-10 record in his final year.

Graves left Big Bend CC to become an assistant coach under Jim Sollars at the University of Portland prior to the 1992-93 season. Following four years with the Pilots, Graves was named the head coach at Saint Mary’s for the 1997-98 campaign. Graves advanced to his first NCAA Tournament with the Gaels during the 1998-99 season, his second of three seasons at Saint Mary’s, and went to seven more over 14 seasons at Gonzaga. Graves left Saint Mary’s for Gonzaga for the 2000-01 seasons. His first year with the Bulldogs, his team went 5-23, including 0-14 in WCC play. But by his third year at Gonzaga, the Bulldogs went 18-12 overall and went to the WNIT the following season.

Gonzaga won the first of 10 straight WCC titles under Graves during the 2004-05 campaign when his squad went 28-4 overall and 14-0 in league play. Including that year, Graves and Gonzaga lost just 12 total conference games over his final 10 years leading the program. Gonzaga’s first NCAA Tournament appearance came in 2006-07, when the Bulldogs went 24-10 and 13-1 in WCC, and after a WNIT bid in 2007-08, Gonzaga advanced to six straight NCAA Tournaments. Graves and the ‘Zags advanced to the Sweet 16 for three straight years (2010, 2011, 2012) and went to the Elite 8 in 2011. Overall, Graves brought eight West Coast Conference Coach of the Year awards and a 382-162 (.696) Div. I head coaching record to Eugene in 2014, with a 427-202 record overall before joining the Ducks.

“Kelly Graves is a great guy and one of the best coaches in America,” said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. “Oregon is a place with tremendous women’s basketball potential and Kelly is the perfect person to lead the Ducks to the next level. I won’t be surprised when Oregon is competing for Pac-12 championships, and contending on a national level, in the near future.”

Graves added USA Basketball to his resume in the summer of 2012, becoming an assistant coach with the U18 women’s basketball squad and helping the team to a gold medal at the 2012 FIBA Americas. He again coached for USA Basketball in the summer of 2013. As an assistant, he helped the USA U19 squad win the FIBA Women’s World Championship.
