Pestana and Ronaldo joint cooperation announced

World football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has joinedforces with the leading Portuguese hotelier, Pestana HotelGroup, to launch four new lifestyle hotels. The timing ofthis new venture could not be more fortuitous consideringthe recent victory by the Portuguese national team (withRonaldo as captain) of the European Cup on the 10th July.

The investment of €75 million in this new range of hotels will appear under the brand ‘PestanaCR7’ incorporating the football star’s own CR7 brand. The joint venture between Real Madridstar Ronaldo and Pestana, will be managed by the Pestana Hotel Group. Dionísio Pestana,owner and chairman of the group – which includes the Pestana Vacation Club – and CristianoRonaldo, who both hail from Madeira, said their collaboration is based on a mutual respectand trust.The four hotels are in Funchal (Cruise Harbour),Lisbon (Historic Downtown), Madrid (Gran Vía),and New York (near Times Square) will have 400 rooms in total. The first hotel Pestana CR7 inFunchal harbour opened in July with the other 3 hotels scheduled to open in the next 2 years.The properties will be lifestyle hotels designed to appeal to the modern day millennial travellerand inspired by Ronaldo’s CR7 brand. ‘’This joint venture has enormous potential and alsoechoes the constant innovative spirit that embodies the Pestana Hotel Group,” said Dionísio

I’m certain that this investment is surely one of the safest deals thatI can capitalise on for my future.”At a later press conference, the business development administrator for Group Pestana – José Roquette, announced that inaddition to the landmark agreement with CR7, the Group was exploring new business growth models with the aim being togrow the Pestana hotel brand to a minimum of 100 units within the next 4 years. Growth in major European cities and in theUSA, consolidation in South America and reinforcement in the Portuguese market are key aspects of the business plan.

3 Pestana Alvor Praia Hotel & Alvor Beach Club re-open after a multi-million euro refurbishment

In May this year, the fully renovated Pestana Alvor Praia opened to guests. Since its original opening in 1967, the Pestana AlvorPraia Hotel has been considered an icon of Portugal’s hotel industry. Now, after an investment of more than 6 million euros,the hotel is reclaiming its status as the premier 5 star resort in the Algarve.The hotel maintains its iconic marble spiral staircase in a spiral that leads down to an indoor water feature and the D. HenriqueBar with a new terrace that overlooks the garden and the ocean beyond. Another highlight is the new à la carte restaurant,bisected by a six metre long saltwater aquarium and featuring Portuguese cuisine with a wide and careful selection of nationalwines. The restaurant's signature chef Dominique Lienhard is also executive chef of all Pestana Hotels in the Algarve. Theoutdoor pool area has new decking and the adjacent gymnasium has been upgraded. The adjoining Pestana Alvor Beach Clubhas also reopened with the 33 ideally situated apartments having undergone refurbishment.In separate but connected news, the beachside boardwalk in Alvor has been extended a further 1.6 kilometres along the TrêsIrmãos beach. The €400,000 project was funded by the local community and in order to protect the coast and dunes, muchof the boardwalk has been raised from the ground.

We feel it is important to communicate to members improvements that are being made across Pestana resorts in Madeira andthe Algarve.At the Madeira Beach Club a full refurbishment of the apartments located in both phase 1 and 2 will take place, commencing9th January 2017. At the Pestana Palms the main door of each apartment will be fitted with a new lock operated by a radiocard system. At Pestana Village new 40 inch flat screens are being installed in all 2 bedroom apartments. In the two bedroomapartments at Pestana Miramar new sofabeds are being delivered and 40 inch flat screens are being fitted. At the PestanaPalms Residence new full length mirrors are being installed in all apartments and new side tables for the pool area are beingdelivered. Finally, at Pestana Promenade Wi-Fi is being provided to all apartments.In the Algarve, at Pestana Alvor Praia full refurbishment of Restaurants, Bar, Pool and Reception has been completed, withan infinity pool being created, plus all Alvor Beach Club apartments have been refurbished, with Wi-Fi in apartments anddishwashers in all kitchens being added. At Pestana Viking renovation of the building exterior will be carried out this winterand at the Pestana Alvor Park new 40 inch flat screens have been installed. Lastly, at Pestana Alvor Residence Wi-Fi is nowavailable in all apartments.

Don and Ann Betts had this to say about their lasting memories of holidaying in Madeira since 1974.“When we landed at the airport and looked out of the plane the runway didn’t seem to be muchlonger than an aircraft carrier! A few days later, we ‘enjoyed’ a truly hair raising ride in one of thewicker baskets, starting from near the Monte gardens we hurtled down the cobbled streets rightto the centre of Funchal. And so we were hooked! In the intervening years we have experienced somuch more of what makes this island such a special place; the flower festival, the classic car show,celebrating New Year and more.As members at Madeira Beach Club for some 30 years we have met so many different people fromall over the world, often this was when we took our early morning swim in the Garden Pool. He donated a trust fund toRotary to recognize people who have done exceptional work and as the certificatesays; “in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtheranceof better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.”It is with great pride that we announce that our esteemed work colleague and friend,João Carlos Spinola, is the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow award in recognition ofboth his service to the community and his charitable work, spanning more than 20years for the Sunshine Project, in association with Criamar – a Pestana group charitywhich supports disadvantaged young people in Madeira. Other illustrious recipientsof the award include former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and U.S. Astronaut JamesLovell.João Carlos is celebrating his fiftieth year in the hospitality industry this year. Hispassion for helping people started at the age of 11 when he went to work as abellboy at an hotel in Funchal. ‘Spin’ as he is affectionately called by colleagues andfriends joined the Pestana Group in 1983, helping to set up the Operationsdepartment of the Pestana Vacation Club. By 1988, this department was formalisedas Owner Relations, which Spin managed for eleven years. As Guest RelationsManager, Spin hosts a charity Dinner Dance twice weekly and has so far raised€400,000 for the Sunshine Project and the Aldeia da Paz orphanage. His Pestanafamily are truly very proud of him and this award is so well deserved!
